Mt. Toubkal, located in Morocco’s Atlas Mountains and standing at an impressive height of 4,167m, is the highest peak in North Africa.

The ascent to the summit is undoubtedly hard going but the rewards exceed the challenges. As well as being treated to magnificent views of the surrounding valleys and peaks on Africa walking adventure holidays, you’ll also encounter the local Berber people and learn about their culture and traditions.

Another iconic destination for walking holidays in Africa is Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak on the continent, which reaches 5,895m. Although the climb to the summit isn’t technically demanding, it does require stamina, determination and acclimatisation. There are various routes to the summit which steer you through diverse landscapes, from lush rainforests to barren alpine deserts. The sense of accomplishment once you’ve reached the summit is incomparable.

The Drakensberg Mountains in South Africa are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and you’ll find a range of trails and hikes that meander through picturesque valleys, where ancient rock art gives you a glimpse into the past. Wildlife lovers will be in their element at Kruger National Park as it’s home to the famous Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo) as well as many other species. The trip covered alot of ground and gave a real insight into the different dimensions of Northern Morocco. We had a great group and group leader. Some thoughts on potential changes to the itinerary:
* would have liked more time in Tangiers on the 2nd day to explore the medina; the morning felt rushed.
* Loved Chefchouen, but felt that it would have been good to leave for the mountains after breakfast and taken a picnic. The mountain environment and refuge were special and it would have been good to have had more time and done more walking there
Fes was a great highlight to end with, both from the place itself and the riad
Transport back to the airport was efficient and well organised

I enjoyed this trip so much, we saw so many animals in the beautiful National parks and the lodges were comfortable and relaxing at the end of the day. Each day was very full and there is a lot of moving from place to place, but that meant we experienced different environments and were able to see a great variety of birds and animals. It was also interesting when we passed through towns bustling with people, on Sundays children in their best clothes going to church, lots of little stalls with fruit and veg, children going to school and Masai herding their cows, sheep and goat by the side of the busy roads.
