Glad I Went

Everything about this trip went absolutely perfectly and we couldn’t be more pleased with the accommodations, food, hiking, service and organization.
If every Exodus tour is as good as this one then we longer will search for any other hiking vacation options.

Most Inspirational Moment

The hiking routes used during this tour were appropriately labelled as number 2 but that didn't mean they weren't beautiful and a little challenging. Following mostly well established hiking trails, we covered everything from local roads to flat cross country trails to cross mountain trails. The scenery was stunning, the air was pure and the experience amazing. We enjoyed every second of it.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader, Alexi, was everything you could ask for in a group leader. Experienced and highly qualified he was able to address any situation and made sure everyone was accommodated. Exodus take note: do not let this one get away!

Advice for Potential Travellers

My only advice for potential travellers is to go on this tour!

Orangutans, dragons, volcanoes and culture

The best bits of Indonesia in a whistle stop tour of this friendly and vared country.

Most Inspirational Moment

Encountering semi-wild and wild orangutans in their natural environment. Closely followed by boating around the islands of komodo national park to see the awesome dragons.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent. Always available and willing to help and sort out any problem however big or small. When food was served cold in one hotel, she could be heard berating the staff in the kitchen from the other side of the restaurant.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be ready for hot humid weather and some tough jungle treking to see the orangutans. However there were always plenty of guides to ensure everyone, from the sure footed to the less fit people were able to navigate all terrain. Indonesian food can be spicy and with lots of activities, a number of short haul flights and 2 days on a boat you should take along some immodium just in case. No Delhi belly in our group though. If you can a night or 2 in Kuala Lumpur or Singapore on the way out and an extra few nights in bali at the end will help spkit the long journey. If you can't, be ready for fast transfers at Kuala Lumpur airport. The trip is well worth the long journey though and don't let this put you off this amzing trip.

Petra & Wadi Rum by Bike holiday - 10th September 2016

A brilliant holiday experience made all the better by a great guide and very enjoyable fellow travellers

Most Inspirational Moment

The visit to Petra was the highlight of the holiday. Out guide, Zahair, lined us up in the siq - the narrow canyon leading to the ancient city, and with two paces to the left the wonderful iconic Treasury building was revealed in brilliant sunshine, in stark contrast to the dim and dark siq.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent - wore his heart on his sleeve when it came to Jordanian history and the country of Jordan

Advice for Potential Travellers

Just go and enjoy it. It's a busy trip with little rest but very enjoyable

Kenya - Tanzania & Zanzibar

A truly memorable experience with some long journeys along some very bumpy and dusty roads but the rewards of close encounters with so much of East Africa’s wildlife made it all worth while. Our group was 17 strong with 4 crew who worked tirelessly to ensure that we were able to enjoy our trip to the full and the truck had plenty of room for all of us to be able to enjoy the wildlife and catch some magic moments on camera. Camping is a great way to enjoy and experience the wildlife and although some of the camp sites are very basic the location more than makes up for it together with the fact that often we were the only campers.

Most Inspirational Moment

Camping in the serengetti and on leaving our camp for the early morning game drive coming across a pride of 8 lions just 300 metres from camp. The early morning sunlight shining on the old male lion with a beautiful golden hew was just magic. Seeing more than 24 lions in one day with cubs of varying ages and managing to see 'the big five' although the leopard sighting was difficult as it was high in a tree shrouded by foliage, but at least we saw it.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Lelei was a fantastic guide/group leader who together with our driver 'Bonnie' really made our trip. At one stage in the Mara our truck developed a leaky radiator, but Bonnie kept topping it up so that we could continue our journey and together with Lelei managed to get a replacement shipped out which Bonnie fitted in camp. Lelei imparted much local knowledge and was a good game spotter and together with Bonnie was able to put us in the right place at the right time to see so much wildlife without putting pressure on any of the animals and respecting the rules of the parks.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you are only thinking about this trip, stop thinking and go and do it, you will enjoy it. Take heed of the advice regarding the temperature at Ngorongoro crater as it DOES get cold at night! Make sure you take a good torch as many of the camps are unlit.

Whales, Bears and WOW

A brilliant trip, with chance to see huge amounts of the stunning British Columbia Landscapes and lots of wildlife. We were very lucky with the weather, a great group, a top tour leader and wildlife that wanted to show off all of the time.

Most Inspirational Moment

So many to choose from. A humpback whale breaching on the way back from seeing 18 bears racing through the emerald green waters of the Orford river catching salmon, to a grey whale who came within 5 metres of the zodiac (too close for some :-) or the Black Bears turning over rocks on the shoreline and a cub up the tree, or the first pod of Orcas, or the Deer swimming between Islands in fairly rough seas, or the fish and chips at Dicks fish and chips in Campbell river, or the Sea Otters, or the Salmon BBQ on the beach, with whales just off the coast, or the laughs with the group, or the rapids and whirlpools in the Bute Inlet.... or many many more

Thoughts on Group Leader

Top Class. Mac was chilled out, good fun and found the right balance on food for the group.. Granted, it’s a limited number I’ve experienced, but he’s presently the best Salmon Barbeque Chef in Canada. He was also on the ball in organising extra trips and experiences, and ensuring you could fit as much in as you wanted to do.

Advice for Potential Travellers

There is lots packed in at times, BUT there’s also a fair amount of free time. I was there for the wildlife, so managed to get out on 2 extra whale watching trips in Tofino, 1 long trip in Campbell River and even 1 in Victoria (although this was much more commercial and touristy than Tofino or Campbell River). Be decisive though, especially in Tofino. The weather changes it’s mind more often than you could imagine, if there’s a nice gap in the weather get out and do something - anything, you will have plenty of options, be it Whale Watching, Surfing, Kayaking, Sea Plane Flight, Hot Springs or anything else. In Campbell river the extra Whale Watching Tour is worth doing - it was the first time we saw Orcas, and we got to see lots of the different currents and inlets. Victoria is a lovely place, the nicest city - well worth getting up early to maximise time there. I went to take photographs, and a few tips in that space 1) The bears at Orford River can be a good way away. If you’re taking photos, you’re likely to need for some shots at least 600mm reach (I took 300mm with 2* extender). Although, we also had plenty of opportunities to photograph with a 70-200mm. When we went, the light was very bright, so ensure you take lens hoods and any filters you want. For those not photographing, good binoculars are a must. For those taking camera gear a good dry bag (at least 30 litres) is very useful for out on the zodiacs, as are a couple of towels. We had a group of 8, which was a very nice number for the bus. It allowed space for bags and to spread out a bit. With more people in, it could have got a bit tight. Hotels in Vancouver, Nanaimo, and Tofino are functional, but all had dark rooms, good beds and powerful showers - so suited my needs perfectly. Painters Lodge / April Point are more luxurious and very nice.

Picos de europa

Well planned walks. Lovely scenery. First class leader. Comfortable hotel – excellent food

Most Inspirational Moment

All walks were very good. Gorge walk, high level "balcony" walk in particular.

Thoughts on Group Leader

First class. Knowledgeable. Enthusiastic. Put real effort into planning walks according to weather forecasts.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for a variety of weather in the mountains. Good quality waterproofs including boots were needed on the week I went.

Puglia

An interesting and vey varied trip. Sara our group leader was delightful and efficient.
It was a busy itinerary, very enjoyable, maybe not quite as leisurely as one may have thought it would be.!

Most Inspirational Moment

Difficult,. The caverns were amazing, the olive producers ancient olive grove also. 2000 year old trees reminds one of how fragile and small we are.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Sara was lovely, good fun and efficient

Advice for Potential Travellers

Look upon the trip as slightly more full on than possibily required, but vey enjoyable nonetheless

One of the best cycling trips!

This is our 8th cycling trip with Exodus and one of the best. It has it all- great cycling on mainly quiet roads, but as others have said it would be best to do some hills before travelling so you can enjoy it. Wonderful scenery passing through lovely villages. Great food and wine – lets not forget the wine! I also enjoyed the coffee stops and gelato stops. Enough time was given to look around the places we passed through. Oh and great guides.

Most Inspirational Moment

Hard to single out one moment - but the view over Florence when we arrived was magical - seeing the Doumo dominate the city, the wonderful Tuscan scenery, Radu reminding me of the best gelato in town awaiting us at the top of the long climb back to Castellina! He was a great motivator.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Both Radu and Martin were excellent guides and great company. Radu was very knowledgable and gave lots of guidance and advice. Martin was great in support.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take insect repellent for day and night - a few of us got bitten quite a lot! I would say some of the days are more grade 3/4 .

Discover Sri Lanka

What an amazing experience from beginning to end and would recommend this to anyone wanting a well structured, well organised and extraordinarily interesting holiday. Hundreds of miles and lots of activities ranging from the cultural to the natural and all handled in the most professional way. Although it would take a long time to understand another country in depth, I got a sense of the way Sril Lanka ticks by the environment, the variety and the information provided by the tour leader.

Most Inspirational Moment

So many things to say - a bicycle ride through the countryside to small farming villages, visits to Buddhist and Hindu temples, Lions Rock

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent leader who put so much effort into ensuring everything went smoothly and who was fun and engaging at the same time as sharing his extensive knowledge of the history, geography, wildlife and culture of the country.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take a camera and open eyes!

Frisky lions!!!

Awesome trip – simply has to be done!

Most Inspirational Moment

Highlight for me has to be seeing some very 'frisky' lions who were resting with full tummies after a kill, and then out of the blue they were suddenly chased away by 4-5 charging trumpeting elephants, including an 'ikkle baby one!!! Like being on a live set of a nature program!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Cuthbert (aka CB) and his sidekick Best were simply the best!!! Attentive at all times, very helpful, very polite and always there with a smile. Joined in with the group, ready for a laugh but were serious and very professional when circumstances demanded it.

Advice for Potential Travellers

You will be separated from your main luggage for the first 3 days so pack everything you'll need for those 3 days separately and before getting there as you will arrive in the dark. Use a bag you don't mind getting dirty and thrown about. I took a separate 40L backpack for this purpose. Also take a small dry bag to keep close to hand while canoeing for things like suncream, camera bits and bobs as your '3 day' bag will be tied up and not easily accessible while you are canoeing.
