Walking in Puglia & Matera

We had a great trip although it is not the most scenic of locations. The food was excellent and plentiful. The walks are mostly flat and very easy.

Most Inspirational Moment

The initial walk through the canyon was very enjoyable. the friendliness of the locals was excellent and we especially enjoyed an evening BBQ in the living room of a local farm.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Giuseppe was an excellent leader and was kind, helpful and caring. Being Italian he didn't always understand our British humour but roared with laughter when we explained the jokes!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for large meals.

Lovely Region

We really enjoyed this walking holiday.

Most Inspirational Moment

The views from the hills and visiting Venice.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Do take the time to go to Venice. You can easily extend the trip and go before or after the holiday or go to Venice on your free day.

Walking in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Great trip with outstanding hiking and informative city visits. Leader was exceptional with excellent support staff. An authentic and exhilarating hiking and cultural experience.

Most Inspirational Moment

Reaching the peak of Mt. Magic.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Samer was a knowledgeable, professional and caring leader. His knowledge of the mountains was vast and love of Bosnia was inspirational. It was a pleasure and an honor to participate with him.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for changing weather conditions that are likely to occur in the mountains.

Stroll around some Greek islands

A great Introduction to activity holidays as the walking was not hard and the scenery was stunning. Lots of travel but a great way to get a feel for 3 different islands. Will treasure the memory of glorious sunsets whilst sipping cocktails beachside for a long time.

Most Inspirational Moment

Visiting the Greek "Pompeii" on santorini. Stunning.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Cecile was a great leader, organised everything very well and was the right mix of being part of the group and leaving the group to itself.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Pack light!

Walking in Sardinia

Dorgali is a lovely small Italian town, very friendly, as is the family-run Hotel S’Adde. Great walking country, with mountains, excellent views, and ancient sites of the Nuraghi people.

Most Inspirational Moment

Funnily enough, for me it was the view when we climbed to the top of the mountain above Dorgali, with clear views to the sea, and a long way inland too. Tiscali was a special site in its own way, but the first climb was the most rewarding.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Eric Woolley is a seasoned veteran of the outdoors, and the group was very safe in his hands. The first day's walking, he pushed us a bit, in order to get the measure of us, all the better to time the rest of the week's walks, which were timed almost perfectly. One slight criticism; Eric's Italian seemed somewhat scanty, but this didn't affect the trip at all, since one of our group was of Italian extraction, and was thus able to translate when having more complex conversations, and the rest of the time, the group had enough Italian to get by. Most of the hotel staff spoke English.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared to sample some excellent wines; the hotel "house red" was quite acceptable, and the local Cantonau Classico and Reserve were delicious. Not quite so sure about the local myrtle-based aperitif, "Mirto", though! Being a vegetarian on southern european trips can be difficult at times, and I found myself being offered fish at least twice - luckily, I'm flexible, but others might not be so.

Chianti walking & wine

A great holiday, Liz was fab. Be prepared for some serious walking if your not a regular walker up & down hills on rough ground. All in all a great time with a great group of people & lovely accommodation. Would definitely recommend.

Most Inspirational Moment

I loved Siena & Sarah our guide was great.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Very organised & ever attentive to everyone's needs

Advice for Potential Travellers

Practice walking on rough ground with ascents & descents

Christine Miller

This was a very well organised trip and the views through the whole trek were absolutely amazing. The walking was sustained and sometimes challenging, but super staff support, campsites, food and regular stops at refuges through the day means the days were never too tiring.

It was nice to have two rest days and to eat in restaurants a couple of nights – these ‘special touches’ were appreciated and I’m sure they added to the success and relaxed feel of the holiday.

Camping out every night made the trip really special.

Most Inspirational Moment

Near the end of the trip, we reached 'the Trico challenge' -a stiff climb to a col, which our leader perfectly introduced to us as the toughest climb of the trip. He challenged us to challenge ourselves for the ascent, so as a group we stormed - at our own best speed - up the mountain. We all met the challenge and it was fantastic to sit up the top together with some mountain sheep, feeling triumphant in the sun with the most amazing views.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our leader was extremely competent and had a very good approach to managing the group and leading us safely and happily so that everyone enjoyed the walks at their own pace. He had a great way about him and really helped make the trip the success it was. The support staff were also attentive, caring, efficient and provided for all our food needs, and more, perfectly.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Being a camping trek, you are up and off early so need to be quite organised and ready for a wee burst of activity first thing as you wrestle your pop up tent into its bag, get breakfast and packed lunch etc ready. The days themselves, though, are relaxed and although they can be long, are perfectly interspersed with regular stops along the way to refuel on local, homemade goodies at amazing mountain refuges along the route. Walking poles were really useful and think about taking two camping towels in case it's raining and one gets wet -the warm shower at the end of the day was worth having a dry towel for!

Walking the Amalfi Coast

As always with Exodus this was an amazing trip. The scenery, the hotel, the people, I could not fault one element of it. The Hotel was clean and tidy and the staff were very friendly and very proud of their establishment as they should be. They have their own gardens and fields so we had fresh produce everyday cooked to a high standard.

Most Inspirational Moment

It has to be the scenery, it was spectacular. The best walk was the walk of the gods, it was absolutley beautiful. It was also a great privilege to be able to stand at the top of vesuvius. Pompei was stunning and I'm amazed at the hard work and attention to detail the experts have put in to this for the rest of the world to admire.

Thoughts on Group Leader

The group leader was very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and attentive. He made sure everybody was happy at all times.

Advice for Potential Travellers

There are quite a few steps so if you do have problems with knees then walking poles will be a great help. The only other advice I can give is to book this trip as soon as poss as you will enjoy every minute of it.

Bulgaria Rodopi Mtns

Good walking in the Rodopi hills -Derbyshire on a larger scale (but with a lot more trees).

Most Inspirational Moment

The walks were a little "samey" as many of the individual views are masked by the extensive conifer plantations but the viewing platform from St Elijah (Sveti Iliya) Ridge on Day 6 gave an impressive and unique aspect and from where we saw wall creepers on the rocks just below and could watch their red flashes in flight. Later the Yagodina Cave was an impressive side attraction.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Very good. Cheerful and willing - mixed well with the entire group. (Danced really well!)

Advice for Potential Travellers

Make sure you take a large lunch box. The food is hearty but dull (a lot of cheese with every meal - especially breakfast!) - I would seriously suggest taking a bottle of ketchup or favourite brown sauce plus a supply of your favourite tea bags if you are not an avid coffee drinker. Beer, wine and coffee is very cheap - your bar bill will be a pleasant surprise!

Dubrovnik and the Dalmatian Coast

This was an excellent trip giving an overview of the Croatian coast, some of the islands, plus a quick look at important historical sights.

Most Inspirational Moment

The scenery, the sea and the islands plus the magnificence of Dubrovnik.

Thoughts on Group Leader

An intelligent likeable man, a good ambassador for Croatia!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Although not a lot of walking is required, comfortable shoes and beach shoes are essential.
