Cape Town and Garden Route

What a fantastic trip. Lots to see, scenery, views, birds & animals. The food and weather were excellent too. Accommodation was comfortable, minibus occasionally was a bit bumpy but we were busy taking in all the sights to notice.

Most Inspirational Moment

We entered the Addo Elephant Park and almost straight away an elephant appeared out from the bushes which we all found amazing. We also enjoyed the optional game Park trip in an open vehicle as you are able to go off the beaten track and get much closer to the animals

Thoughts on Group Leader

Justin our group leader was excellent, nothing was too much trouble, he make out trip stress free.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Just the usual. Take comfortable shoes and clothing as there is the opportunity to do walking and also you do spend a bit of time in the minibus.

Mr Colin Prince

The overall content and places visited on the trip was up to the standards expected of an Exodus holiday. The standard of the hotels was average, except when we were in Kochin. There, the home stay room we were given was very poor, the bedding was dirty and the room very small for 2 people. This would have been alright if we only had 1 night there but as we had a down day, I felt it was unacceptable. Our group was split into 2 hotels. It would have been better if we were all kept together. Safi did move us for the second night, but only after I requested it.

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing the tiger in Bhundipur reserve. The animal and bird life was an unexpected pleasure. Going to a family home, meeting the family and doing a cookery course there.

Thoughts on Group Leader

This is my 3rd Exodus trip and I feel that the service that Safi provided was very much below the standards that Exodus had set previously. His knowledge was very poor and his communication skill were lacking. I felt he had lost any enthusiasm for the trip and he did not think about the social aspects of the group. The Kochin hotel as an example. The care that had been shown on previous Exodus rides, mwhen we came to stops on the bikes, bwas lacking e.g., no reminders for hand wash, no welcoming smiling faces and snacks had to be asked for. The driver was very good but not always there. Having said that Safi stepped up to the plate when I needed to go to hospital.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Use plenty of hand wash, apply lots of sun cream and drink plenty of water.

Reply from Exodus

We were sorry to hear that Colin was disappointed with aspects of this trip. This homestay in Cochin is no longer being used by our groups and we hope that people will enjoy their stay at the new homestay. We were disappointed to hear that Colin was underwhelmed with some of the trip’s leadership; Colin’s feedback was followed up on by our local manager and we are pleased to see that Safi has taken this constructively and has received very good feedback since.

Trip of a lifetime.

An excellent trip, demanding climbs followed by exhilerating descents coupled with stunning scenery all around.

Most Inspirational Moment

Those long twisting descents just made you feel so alive. The personal acheivement of getting to the top of the climbs.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Jon and Radu were just great, a super team.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go for this trip if you like a challenge. The climbs are long but not too intense and the end rewards are many. Worth every ounce of effort. The scenery is stunning and Morocco is just fabulous.

South Africa Cape and winelands

Excellent trip; great guides who went out of their way to keep whole company happy.
Awesome scenery along the route, good food and wine.

Most Inspirational Moment

The coastal scenery was breath-taking.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent group leader, hit the right balance of fun and safety. He couldn't have gone to more trouble to tailor the trip to suit the group; Brilliant.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Enjoy!

Annapurna Circuit Feb 17

This classic trek is not for the faint hearted. Although the distances covered are not great, the fact that much of the trek is above 3000m means that effort required is significant and the day crossing the Throng La Pass at over 5400m is by far the most strenous with a 4am start and 1500m climb – equivalant to climbing Ben Nevis from the summit of Mt Blanc.
The trek has been very well thought out with slack included just in case there are delays on the pass due to weather or sickness.
The mountain views are awesome but there are also stretches of near desert where the going isn’t quite so good.

Most Inspirational Moment

Sunrise on the snow covered mountains was spectacular

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our leader, Prem, was outstanding. He organised everything to run like clockwork. He took great care of the group especially when some of us were suffering the effects of altitude thus ensuring everyone achieved their goal of completing the trek. His sense of humour was just what was needed to keep spirits up, we could have wished for better. Not sure how he influenced the weather but it was almost perfect for us - but just one day behind us every day the weather had closed in with heavy snow on the Pass just a few hours after we crossed it. We named him 'Prem the Lucky'!

Advice for Potential Travellers

February turned out to be a good choice - clear weather (mostly) and deserted tea houses that we had to ourselves. From what we saw of other folk on the trek, Exodus was a good choice. Having seen other trekkers trying to tackle the high passes independently I was glad we were in the hands of competant leaders and had a happy support team of sherpas.

A fantastic fortnight in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is a beautiful country. The people are friendly, the food is excellent, the scenery is fantastic and the history and culture are amazing. Cycling on the backroads gives you a chance to experience all of this first hand. A truly memorable trip.

Most Inspirational Moment

There was something positive every day but for me completing the hill climb followed by fantastic descents with stunning views was a highlight. The wildlife was amazing - and not just in the National Park! I have also been inspired to get creative in the kitchen!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Exodus should consider itself lucky to have Suresh as a tour leader. He is the kind of guy who even though you may have only just met you feel like you've known him for ages. He looks after everybody and you know that he is putting his customers first. He has a great sense of humour and puts everyone at ease but behind the scenes you know he is working tirelessly to make sure everything is just right. He also has great knowledge of the history and culture of Sri Lanka which made the trip even more interesting. The rest of the team, Upali, Charmara and Tissa also did a fantastic job. Nothing was too much trouble.

Advice for Potential Travellers

In some places there are dogs. The vast majority are asleep but occasionally one might bark and give a bit of a chase. They are not a big problem, just something to be aware of if they make you nervous. There is a lot of noisy traffic in Kandy. If you don't like cycling in heavy traffic with car horns blaring out then you might want to consider going in the support vehicle for the first couple of miles on that day. But we stick together and go slowly slowly and we all made it! It can get a bit chilly at 2000m altitude so you might want to consider packing a light fleece/sweatshirt.

A superb trip which will stay with us for a long time...

A fantastic trip with almost daily opportunities to see a huge range of game, wildlife and birds. The chimpanzee trekking was great with two very different encounters, the safari park game drives were superb and the gorilla trekking in Bwindi was absolutely amazing, again with two very different encounters. The chance to see these incredible creatures close up really is a once in a lifetime experience which we thoroughly enjoyed. Uganda is a really very beautiful country and our fellow travellers, leader and guide all worked together to make this a incredibly memorable holiday.

Most Inspirational Moment

Almost every day held magical moments of some sort, chimp trekking was a great start, gorilla trekking was just amazing - being able to get far, far closer to this beautiful animals than we had ever dreamed, and having the time to be able to watch them interact with their family was just incredible. Watching lions in the early morning, having zebras outside our window, watching monkeys swing around the swimming pool, watching the sun go down over the savannah, being caught in the middle of an incredible storm, eating by torchlight, the boat safari seeing elephants and hippos, and the amazing variety and range of bird life - superb. Taking time to chat the very friendly locals, especially our visit to one of the orphanage schools in Bwindi. The penny dropping that the reason the bell boy is introducing us to the toilet, basin and shower in our ensuite bathroom is because he doesn't have one at home and can't imagine that you do either.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader and guide, David and Benjamin were fantastic, doing everything they could to make sure we had a great trip. David's daily briefings were superb and made sure we knew exactly what we would be doing when, what we needed to wear, how long the day in front of us would be and how much extra money, if any, we might need. Benjamin has a truly in-depth knowledge of wildlife, birds and animals and an incredible number of 'contacts' to ensure we got the very best out of our holiday at all times.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Some of the lodges provide mosquito spray for the rooms, some don't - you will probably benefit from taking your own so you can spray your room at night as in most locations (not Bwindi) mosquitoes and other insects are rather persistent. A good personal anti-muzzy for your own skin is also essential. Working out how much money to take and how much to exchange from the trip notes is a challenge - you do need cash, there are next to no ATMS or banks anywhere on route. We took $500USD and changed $200USD into Ugandan schillings - we could probably have done with another $100USD on us to buy a few more souvenirs, or if you want to drink a lot more Nile Special in an evening. David and Benjamin organised a group kitty for us for tipping purposes which worked brilliantly, you'll need $50 per person to contribute to this for the entire holiday. The gorilla trek porters costs $15 plus $5 tip (the only tip you pay yourselves if you do a kitty) - but you can pay them in almost any currency, including Ugandan of course. When the trip notes say 'basic' they mean basic - you will be living out of your bag for most of this holiday with nowhere to unpack even if you had time! In two of the lodges there is electric light in your room, but no power sockets, charging is done in reception, however be prepared for relatively frequent power cuts - bring fully charged spare batteries and don't expect there to be working WiFi all the time. Gaiters are a useful addition to your walking boots; they prevent your laces getting caught on undergrowth in Bwindi and prevent ants from getting in your pants elsewhere. I was really surprised that gluten free can be done (in the main, not pudding!) by most places - make sure Exodus and the group leader know what you can and cannot eat. There are no snacks anywhere, so take your own if you can't live without. Be prepared for some very long days in the 4X4 jeeps - if you have a bony bum, you may want to bring something to sit on.

Not the greatest cycling holiday we have had

Cuba is very 3rd world. The standard of the accommodation was very variable and at times frankly unacceptable. Much of the cycling was on very busy roads with ancient lorries putting out thick black exhaust fumes. The island had its prettier parts but on the whole was flat and uninteresting.

Most Inspirational Moment

We enjoyed the very few off main roads rides

Thoughts on Group Leader

He was very good. The driver also very helpful and safe

Advice for Potential Travellers

You may well enjoy the experience but there are lots of downsides to travel in Cuba

Trails of Vietnam

This was a wonderful trip – fully of varied activities – cycling, trekking, kayaking and sight seeing . Vietnam is a fascinating country, with so much variety between north and south and lots of interesting history. It is is the right time to go now, before the tourist industry really gets going, especially on the coast near Danang . The people are lovely – so friendly and welcoming – the food is great – very fresh and varied.

Most Inspirational Moment

Hoi An was the loveliest town with its mixture of old France architecture, lots of street traders, great food, river estuary and good beaches. Get a silk dress or suit made overnight. Cycling in the Mekong Delta was a great experience, but HOT. The home stay on an island in the Mekong river was our most peaceful place to stay. Walking by rice fields in the north was great with the hills and mountains in the background. Halong Bay in the north was also beautiful - there are a lot of other boats , but you don't feel it is too touristy yet.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Amazing - Kien was the best leader I have ever had on Exodus. Full of interesting information about Vietnam , a great organiser, caring towards his group members and a great sense of humour.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for the traffic in Hanoi and Saigon - it is manic - it does not stop - but don't panic - walk steadily in a straight line and they will weave round you - they are not agressive drivers, but there are a lot of motor bikes.

Magical Jordan

Go to Jordan- many people expressed concerns when I mentioned my up coming trip, I can confirm my experience was full of warm friendly welcoming people and at no time did it feel unsafe. The Wai Rum was stunning and gave me a sense on peace that I have not found else where. The trek was well planned and at time’s informative with our guide providing useful information and a tale or too. My companions were diverse from all backgrounds and experiences, and wonderful company as we explored the desert. Walking on sand at times was challenging and the firm patches were welcomed when they returned. The distances quoted on the itenery were short on some days that might catch a few people out if 20-23k is no your idea of fun.

I really enjoyed the scramble to the rock bridge but I don’t think the trip note’s captured the heights involved which will catch out the average walker.

Most Inspirational Moment

The Wadi Rum and the wild camping is an experience of a lifetime Petra was everything I had hoped for

Thoughts on Group Leader

He was informative and helpful and had tales to tell round the fire at night

Advice for Potential Travellers

Brilliant experience and I recommend a hike through the desert, walking on sand is challenging as is the scrambling for beginners
