Annapurna Circuit

This trip was excellent-the first Himalayan experience, a highly thought-of trek through brilliant mountain and remote scenery in mostly ideal weather conditions with a great mix of fellow trekkers all led by a delightful knowledgable guide. The first week was spent trekking up the Marsyangaki River from to the remote high pass of the Thorong la then the circuit was completed by descending down the deep gorge of the Kala Gandaki surrounded by the high mountains of the Annapurna range. A euphoric feeling developed at the end of the circuit in Pokhara !

Most Inspirational Moment

Definitely the crossing of the Thorong-la It’s a big long day with an early start and potential problems are weather and altitude. Just standing by the prayer flags in the sun and snow 17000 feet up with the group and thinking how we’d all got there was very moving.

Thoughts on Group Leader

What a cheerful knowledgable unflappable person! Faced with 11 disparate souls from entirely different backgrounds, he led, cajoled, and encouraged us throughout the walk. He was very proud of his country and did a very good job of explaining the cultural differences and challenges of Nepal.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Expect a good days walking most days. Expect to be breathless on the higher sections -the air though clear is much drier and thinner, and use sunscreens to protect against UV skin damage. Take your time ascending. Expect stomach upsets - some of us got more than we expected! Even with antibiotics

A wonderful winter adventure...!

An awesome holiday that found the balance between being a holiday and an adventure. There was enough inclusive activities, both guide-lead and self-lead, to keep us busy with something everyday. For those who wanted to bolster their holiday with extras, then there were plenty to do so with.

Accommodation was great. Food was good and the staff went above and beyond.

Most Inspirational Moment

We walked the Little Bear trial which was stunning as the season was on the turn between winter and spring gave a beautiful insight into both. And, of course, the Husky day was simply awesome.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader was friendly, funny, knowledgeable and went above and beyond to cater for all of us. He made our trip even more enjoyable.

Experiencing a new cultural experience

Cycle the Backroads of Sri Lanka

Fantastic! Sri Lanka is a hidden gem, a beautiful country and to explore it on 2 wheels you see it at it’s best. I’ve enjoyed all our cycle trips with Exodus, but this one in particular benefits from door to door cycling and it’s only the transfer from Colombo airport/return which you have to jump into the minibus.

Most Inspirational Moment

Cycling along the river bank watching families swimming, women washing their clothes and water buffalo further downstream, not to mention all the wildlife.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Suresh was brilliant. I couldn't believe our luck as he has previously won Guide of the Year. Superb and the best leader in our experience. We will vote for him as Guide of the Year and hope he wins again. He couldn't do enough for the whole group and had his eye on personal attention to detail with each individual.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Just book it, you'll love this trip.

Hidden Treasures of Jordan

An extremely comprehensive but whirlwind tour of Jordan. A lot of time spent on the coach between destinations and physical activity ranged from almost none on most days to extreme on the Petra days. Very friendly people and excellent food everywhere. The sites and places we saw were stunning but there was often not enough time to take it all in. We felt safe at all times and there is no need to worry (at the moment!) about its geographical position!

Most Inspirational Moment

Reaching the High Sacrificial Places and the Monastery in Petra, floating in the Dead Sea, Jerash and the jeep drive round Wadi Rum, which included watching the sunset while Bedouin made us tea over an open fire. All these were real highlights.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Eyad (aka Eddie!) was extremely friendly and caring with a great sense of humour and a lovely smile. He obviously loves his job and his country and is very knowledgeable about the places we visited and their history. There was often an information overload!!!! He enabled us to try a variety of restaurants and organized visits so that we missed bus loads of tourists and locals. We travelled at peak time but seldom met a lot of tourists. Eddie really made the trip. A huge thanks to him!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for long drives in the coach and 2 long, hard days of walking in Petra. You are able to hire horses, donkeys or camels in Petra but it's not cheap. Maybe bring a walking pole? Bring a torch for Wadi Rum. Do your shopping in Aqaba - much cheaper than anywhere else. Dead Sea soap at the Dead Sea - £10, in Aqaba £2.50 !!!

Vietnam - vitality and variety

If you want a non-stop, full-on journey with never a dull moment trip (and really don’t want a lie-in in the morning) – then cycle from the bottom to the top of Vietnam! Well to be truthful you don’t actually cycle the whole distance – but it sounds good! You actually cover 500 k on your good quality bicycle. The reality is to travel the whole country you have no choice but to spend a fair amount of time on the minibus, but it wasn’t a problem – just a fact. Pleasantly surprised by the quality of hotels – hard to fault anything about them.

The cycling goes from miles of completely flat through villages and countryside (where you whizz along at 14-16 mph regularly), to pleasantly undulating, with just two ‘proper’ climbs – one of which is 10k and seriously steep. One spectacular downhill journey for miles as a sort of pay-back!!
Fabulous food (lots of stopping off at local families along the route for lunch). A great group of 18 folk of varying ages and levels of fitness made the holiday fun and fabulous.

Most Inspirational Moment

A couple of highlights for me - two nights on Whale Island (what a really fabulous place), a couple of nights in Hoi An which was great fun if you like cooking and getting clothes made, and the 14 hour train journey from Hue to Hanoi was just brilliant. Getting to grips with the traffic and cycling through some busy towns was hilarious - bonkers at times, but such good fun. Spotting the most unusual thing that could be transported on the back of a scooter was an entertaining hobby for sure.

Thoughts on Group Leader

The whole of our team of four was fantastic. They were superbly led by Son - who was unflappable, kind, experienced, efficient and funny and worked really hard to help us understand what Vietnam is all about!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Various reviews say pack light - it's good advice (although sadly I ignored it)! There's lots of packing and unpacking along the way so the less you take the easier it is. For example - you really do only need one swim suit, not 3, one or two pairs of sandals, not 4!!! Also there are so many shopping opportunities you need space to bring those additional essential purchases home!!!

Trails of vietnam

Trip didn’t get off to best start due to industrial action at Air France but Exodus went the extra mile to sort things, superb service as I’ve come to expect!!!

Great trip too … put it on your bucket list.

Most Inspirational Moment

Hoi An, cool city!!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent, attentive & great sense of humour

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go for it!!

A wonderful trip - Highly recommended

An action packed two weeks in an India I was not expecting. Kerala is a beautiful state (apart from the rubbish everywhere) and seems a more affluent part of India. We were not hassled for money all the time and the local people were all really friendly. We filled every day with new experiences, from going to the laundry in Cochin, to stopping on the road to meet locals making bricks with their hands and feet, then watching the tea pickers working in the hot sun for very little money. Once you get used to the traffic, the cities were fascinating and there was so much to see. The Bollywood film we saw was dreadful, but a great experience. Had to be done. Most of the hotels were of a good standard but the rooms at Kovalan, described as a Comfort Hotel, which I thought was supposed to be better than Standard, were very tired and most of the electric sockets didn’t work.
I was disappointed that due to a forest fire, we were unable to do the morning jungle walk and the only option was a packed boat trip along the river, where we did see wildlife, but mostly at a distance.
The food was very good on the whole trip, and so cheap! I was not aware of anyone being unwell.

Most Inspirational Moment

The houseboat was wonderful, made better by buying freshwater prawns from the local fish market. The best meal of the whole trip and our boat was the only one which had them. The early morning walk in Madurai was great, seeing the wholesale traders selling their wares. It seemed like no other tourists went there, so it was more special. I loved the Muhamma Backwater Resort we stayed at, but I had the best room, overlooking the lake. It was such a peaceful, beautiful place to stay. I could have stayed there longer. I was lucky to travel with such a fun group. Even though we were of different ages, we shared a sense of humour and adventure and they made the 2 weeks very special

Thoughts on Group Leader

Sibil was an excellent local leader. He filled our days with sights and activities and had a lot of local knowledge. He was not always easy to understand and sometimes he did not understand us, but with a little patience everything worked out OK and he made sure we were all where we were supposed to be. He was very helpful and always cheerful. Even when we arranged our own activities and he had time off, he always was at hand to assist if we needed transport or anything else.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Don't take too many clothes, you can buy very cheap cotton items everywhere, which are ideal in the tropical heat. I took my walking poles for the morning trek amongst the tea plantations, but it was very easy and more of a stroll than a trek and I didn't need them. Take European plug adaptors, they are most commonly used. The Martial Arts display at Thekkady is recommended, but if you book for the Kathakali dance display, don't expect Bangra music and dancing girls! You have been warned! Only one room had a hairdryer, but they were available on request. Be prepared for long drives, travel always took longer than anticipated. Though the bus was comfortable and air conditioned. Take snacks. At the Homestay, take care in the bathroom as the floor is very slippery and one of our group fell and broke her arm. I was advised by people at home to only eat vegetables during the trip, but I did eat fish and chicken with no problems. You can ask for food less spicy, so the heat was never a problem.

Hidden Treasures of Jordan

This adventure exceeded my expectations. The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan offers a huge variety of different landscapes and activities for the traveller. Its historical significance provides loads of opportunities to enjoy ancient civilisations. Exploring these sites was fab but also meeting the friendly people and trying their food was great. This particular trip allowed me to discover Jordan in depth and I feel I have experienced it from the verdant North to the deserts and Red Sea of the South.

Most Inspirational Moment

Petra was amazing. Hiking up Al Khubtha Trail to view the Treasury from up high was an experience I will not forget. I loved Wadi Rum, the scenery stunning and the jeep ride was so fun. Also knowing that Jesus had been baptised at Bethany was.......

Thoughts on Group Leader

Eyad Bannna Eddie to his friends was a fantastic tour Leader with a winning smile. He looked after us and made our experience of Jordan special. He managed to get us into Jerash early so we had the place to ourselves before the bus loads arrived, and took us to different local restaurants so we could sample all the food. Thank you Eddie

Advice for Potential Travellers

Do not be put off because there are problems in the Middle East. I felt safe and the Jordanians were so friendly. As a female traveller I felt relaxed and was able to move freely and did not have to cover up. It is an amazing trip you will not regret booking it. ENJOY!
