A week in Sicily

Excellent leader, made us feel safe, encouraged and patient with the group. She integrated with us well which really made the trip.
Highlights of Portugal
The variety of places visited was excellent as were the different activities. ‘Highlights of Portugal’ trip is an excellent way to get a taste of northern Portugal and the culture, history and food. We were led by an expert guide Carla who really helped make our overall trip experience excellent. The driver of the bus was good getting us to places.
Most Inspirational Moment
The day we visited the Douro, the drive there and stopping off at the little station to look at the blue tiles which Carla explained - she even bought us a traditional sweet in the village to have on the next stage of our journey. The picnic in an idyllic setting at the vineyard, the explanation of making port and port tasting. The short river cruise also added to what was an idyllic day. The visit to learn about and hear Fado in Coimbra was also very enjoyable.
Thoughts on Group Leader
We were so lucky to have Carla as our leader. She was always cheerful, kept us together as a group while out visiting places and also was extremely vigilant about safety particularly in busy trafficked areas as well as personal safety, keeping backpacks at the front rather than on our backs. Carla clearly loves her country and was keen to share this with us telling us about the history and culture of Portugal.

Sicily Food & Wine
I loved the pace of the Sicily tour. 7 days was a perfect amount of time to experience the island. Francesco was friendly and informative, and made us fall in love with Sicily.

Mount Etna was a real highlight, especially the additional excursion to the summit (or nearly to the summit).

The splendour of the archaeological sites

Haydar was an exceptional tour guide. Nothing seemed too much trouble to make sure we were happy. Genuinely interested in everyone's health and welfare. Always made sure we were drinking enough water and fastening our seats belts. A wicked sense of humour whatever situation. Extensive international experience. Superb organisation and reorganisation skills when required. Provide multiple toilet/food/pharmacy stops for those of us in need. An excellent communicator.
Very interesting and informative trip
We normally go on walking holidays with Exodus, but due to a current mobility problem we chose this culture experience instead. It proved to be very interesting and informative and gave a valuable experience of everyday life in the region. We were particularly surprised to learn of how hard and restricted life was when the area was under soviet control. It made us realise how lucky we are to live a free life in the UK.

Thoughts on Group Leader
Our leader Andrius Mazrimas was excellent. Probably the best we have ever had and we have been on over 20 Exodus trips! He was very knowledgeable and helpful. He had a great sense of humour and and made the trip very enjoyable. He clearly loved his job and imparted his enthusiasm on everyone. We all finished the trip considering him a good friend and it would be great to see him again.
Advice for Potential Travellers
Some hotels lacked washbasin plugs, take a rubber sink plug with you.
Hike Bulgaria's Rodopi Mountains
The hotel and staff in Yagodina were amazing, friendly and efficient. Food was authentic and fabulous! The guide Julian was fantastic, knowledgeable, friendly and always made sure the safety of the group was paramount. Fantastic trip!

Julian was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. His long term commitment to the environment and welfare of fauna and flora was excellent. Julian was a fantastic leader and a fantastic asset to the area and Exodus
