Trip: Walking Northern Tuscany

Walking Northern Tuscany

This is for the Walking in Tuscany trip: Good value for the money; excellent guide; wonderful agriturismo stay; good off the beaten track hiking adventure.

Most Inspirational Moment

Beautiful scenery in an area that is not overcrowded; Sara was one of the best guides I have ever had on an adventure tour; lovely agriturismo and locally cooked meals; loved visiting Lucca on the free day; great comradery amongst the group. The visit to the new museum in Pieve Fosciana should definitely stay on the itinerary!

Sara was one of the standout guides I have ever had on any adventure travel trip. Loved that she had been in the area so long she was basically a local. She obviously loves the extended family that she has created in Italy. She is personable, knowledgeable, and hard-working. I feel as though she got to know each and every one of us during our week together.

Catalunya

This is shown in the brochure as category 2 (easy and moderate). However, having been on four Exodus holidays previously of varying levels we hadn’t anticipated how challenging much of the terrain would be (acknowledging it is coastal). This is because much of the terrain was quite steep, of mostly loose gravel, slate and in places rocky. This is OK for a category higher, but in some instances here concentrating on your footing becomes your world, subsequently missing out on enjoying more of the surroundings. There also turned out to be little free time to explore or chill in Cadeques and Bergur. Despite some unanticipated walking challenges this was a very much enjoyable week that provided a great experience of this part of Spain – lovely hotels, great restaurants, the winery and Dali’s house among others – with a lovely group of fellow travellers. Overall, a great week, but it’s a Cat3!

Our guide Alex was simply superb! Affable, helpful, nothing was too much trouble for him and very importantly he cared about everyone’s wellbeing.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Anticipate the walks to be a little more challenging than indicated.

Trip: Lisbon to Algarve Ride

Perfect balance of riding and side activities.

The perfect balance along the gorgeous coast of Portugal! Superb host in Joao and his wingman, Vitor, who led us down beautiful mostly dirt trails. We had just the right amount of side adventures for variety and uniquely enjoyable places to rest our heads each night. Excellent dining with everyone, too! Whether experienced or novice, you’ll love it! We completed our trip September 13th.

Too many to list, but each day had at least one highlight that kept us all smiling. Very few boring stretches

Joao kept the pacing perfect and was attentive to every person and every detail. He kept us happy the whole time!

Trip: Cycling in Sicily

Scintillating Sicily

A fantastic week exploring the Baroque region of Sicily. Great group, absolutely top notch guide Davide who imparted his extensive knowledge of Sicily in an entertaining way. Very scenic route, good stops for swimming and sight seeing, lovely restaurants and bars. Davide was well supported by Sepi the driver/mechanic

Trip: Tour du Mont Blanc Week Trek

Tour du Mont Blanc Week Trek

The hike was well planed – logostics worked well, the guide was really great – very skilled hiker technically, new a lot about the nature, the area we hiked and shared happily. And he had a good eye for everyone in the group) And then he was also very likeable, we did have a lot of fun! Most acconomdation was great, have some comments about this, will share somewhere else.

Kris was just awesome! Shared in the first comment as well. Great technical knowledge on hiking, know a lot about the area and is generously sharing, having an eye for the whole group, got logistics to work seamlessly and he is just really great company.

Trip: Cycling in Mongolia

Unforgettable ride through a fascinating country

From the night train from Ulaanbaator onwards, this was a trip packed full of memorable moments. Cycling across the steppes, up and down the “killer passes”, navigating the river crossings, camping in the wilds and the savouring the culinary delights rustled up to satiate our appetites will all live long in the memory.

Cycling across the steppes with herds of horses racing you. They tend to beat you, but you can give them a run for their money ...

Bata was all you want from a group leader. He was enthusiastic, organized, knowledgeable and attentive.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Even in the summer temperatures can drop after sunset so the fleece and three season sleeping bag are not luxuries but necessities!

Trip: Walking in Sardinia

Beautiful island and lovely hotel

The island is beautiful, the locals are friendly and the hikes are amazing. The hotel itself is surrounded by mountains, the rooms are lovely and the family who runs the hotel are really kind.

Need a good sense of balance given the amount of walking over unstable terrain (dried up river beds and scree).

Trip: Cycling in Sicily

September cycling in Sicily tour

Have been on 5 Exodus trips and this was by far the best of the best. Sicily itself is utterly breathtaking, wonderful scenery, great group of people to cycle with and our guide Davide was the best tour guide I have had the good fortune to meet. He was really knowledgeable, funny, supportive to everyone who were at all different levels of cycling ability and treated us all as individuals. The routes he took us had some of the best views ever and every day was totally different. He picked out wonderful restaurant choices and stayed with us until the bitter end. On the penultimate day I was looking to the left coming down a steep hill instead of keeping my eye on the road and fell off my bike (I really am the clumsiest person alive). I injured my arm and Davide quickly came to the rescue and ensured that my safety was paramount. He went over and above, even offering to drive me to restaurants in the evening to ensure I didn’t miss out, he is one in a million and made our holiday really special (it was our 33rd wedding anniversary and my husband’s birthday). If Davide is still there next year we will return as we both fell in love with Sicily’s charm, architecture, coastline and of course the wonderful cuisine. If I could give this trip 10 stars, I would. Also a huge shout out to the lovely driver Sebi/Sepi not sure which, who kindly ferried me around in his van after my accident and really looked after me.

Too many to mention but probably the beauty of Nota and Syracuse. Having the best fellow travellers out of all of our trips, everyone was kind, interesting and very supportive towards one another.

Davide as per above is the best tour leader I have met so far. He really went out of his way to ensure each and everyone had the best experience in Sicily. He absolutely gave his all during this trip, great sense of humour, so knowledgeable, so compassionate and how he managed some of us I will never know, Davide deserves a medal, he has the patience of a saint.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Look where you are going at all times, not like me! This Exodus trip was the best out of the 5 we have been on, cannot recommend it highly enough. Hopefully you too will have Davide as your tour leader.
