Cape Town and the Garden Route

Excellent

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing an elephant and her calf in the wild. Watching sharks circling the boat In Mossel Bay.

Thoughts on Group Leader

We could not have asked for a better group leader. Justin was knowledgeable, cheerful, patient and with a great sense of humour. He made everyday of our holiday such an enjoyable experience.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Travel light, and invest in a good sun hat if you go during the summer season.'j

Snowshoeing in the Dolomites

Mostly walking as January had been too cold for snow

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing the beautiful Tyrolean landscape during and after a snow storm

Thoughts on Group Leader

Inspirational . Her genuine love of her work and people and her knowledge of the area were exceptional . In addition our 'stretch ' classes after each days walk were an added bonus. Sara couldn't have been more helpful.

Advice for Potential Travellers

On the free day we went to see Otzi the neolithic ice-age man which was very informative and interesting.

Enjoy South India from the comfort of a bike saddle

Described as “moderate/challenging”, this cycling adventure produced everything promised – varied cycling experiences in Indian towns and villages, backwater houseboat cruise, fabulous food and a relaxing beach at the end.

Most Inspirational Moment

Hard to pick just one inspirational moment when there were many, but for me the houseboat trip felt like a privilege: the leisurely pace of the cruise and the photography opportunities as the evening light changed, not to mention the beautiful meals cooked on board for us.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our leader was Joseph, and together with his team he kept everyone on track and ensured we were well fed, safe and gave us good direction. He let people go off on their own when it was safe to do so, and kept everyone in check and under his wing when cycling through busy urban areas. His management skills ensured that we kept to time, while at the same time allowing us flexibility to visit local homes, tea shops and tourist areas if we wanted. He made staying in Indian hotels easy - no worries about accommodation, food safety or what to tip. He also anticipated some of us needing to know if we could get a beer at the hotels, ensuring we bought in advance if there was going to be a no-alcohol policy at the next hotel.

Advice for Potential Travellers

I took my own saddle cover for comfort - not a necessity, but a little luxury for the last day which is the longest cycling and some roads a bit bumpy. Always carry hand wash or soap leaves with you - taps for washing hands were normally available at snack stops, but not always soap. Anti-mosquito spray was needed in the evenings at the National Parks and Verkala. Don't be put off by other road users/traffic in India - Indian drivers are much more sensitive to cyclists than British drivers in my experience. They want you to survive, they take care to avoid you, they beep their horns as a warning that they are there, not to tell you to get out of the way. I felt much safer cycling in India than I do cycling in my own home city - London

Cambodia.... wow!!

Cambodia exceeded all of my expectations. I went out over my 40th birthday to escape having to have a party and had the best holiday I’ve ever had! Brilliant mix of fun and history

Most Inspirational Moment

Angkor Wat and the surrounding temples. I personally loved the jungle temple and would advise anyone to go before tourism really takes off

Thoughts on Group Leader

Ly was fantastic, he was very informative and had a great sense of humour. He was well organised, friendly and his 'shit stories' on the coach lightened several long coach rides.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Never underestimate a sand fly!! Although I fully DEET-ed up at every opportunity, these little gits left a couple of us looking like we had smallpox after a trip to the beach!! Also, don't worry about taking Cambodian Riel- everywhere takes dollars.

Iceland and it's rugged nature

Yet again Exodus has given us a wonderful tour of a part of this great planet. Iceland has a great deal to offer for those that want to see a raw part of the world; from Glaciers to bathing in hot springs, to volcanoes and lava tubes.
It is an easy trip to do if you have a low level of fitness but still want to cave or walk a glacier. As always, the choice of guide could not be faulted, he was fun and entertaining but went about everything in a professional way. Sadly we did not see the northern lights but nature is not always on demand, however this did not detract from a wonderful tour of the sights and sounds of Iceland. Well done Exodus.

Most Inspirational Moment

The Gullfoss falls absolutely fantastic sight.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Orri Sigurjonsson was outstanding as our leader and guide. He expertly explained the safety of walking on glaciers with crampons, and the wearing of caving equipment. Also when the van broke down with a puncture he organised a replacement coach to get us back to our hotel and in the night went back to fix the van with a mechanic, appearing bright and cheerful in the morning to continue our tour. Whilst travelling he told wonder stories of Trolls and Elves who live in the rocks of Iceland. Well done Orri.

Advice for Potential Travellers

This is a trip where you will see and hear about Iceland and it's history and it's wonderful rugged beauty of various landscapes.

Cross country skiing Dobbiaco

A fantastic week of beginners skiing around the Dolomites. We had excellent tuition from Alex, the hotel was very comfortable with the added bonus of pool, saunas and steam rooms at the end of the day. Food was delicious.

Most Inspirational Moment

Being able to come down hill in control! It was a great feeling when you got the technique right and were able to glide along in the beautiful scenery.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Alex was a first class leader and teacher. He had all sorts of tricks and tips to help us improve including the use of felt penguins and skiing down with chocolates on a tray - you got to eat them if they stayed on! Even had a quick game of one legged football. Snow on the mountains was limited but the tracks were fine as they bring in fresh snow. Alex took us to different areas according to the best skiing.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Have a small lunch in preparation for a 5 course evening meal.

Another good Exodus holiday

We really enjoyed our recent trip to Sri Lanka. This was our fifth Exodus holiday and did not disappoint. However, the weather was really bad for the first 8 days. This is not usual but it was a shame. We still enjoyed the activities and when the sun did finally appear, we really appreciated it. The trip is varied …some enjoyable walks, interesting scenery, fantastic wildlife and lovely people both on the trip and in Sri Lanka generally. The local people are very friendly and we always felt safe wandering about in the towns. The standard of accommodation was very good..some were excellent.

Most Inspirational Moment

We enjoyed the walk in Horton plains followed by great street food at a local cafe and then a train ride on a very packed local train with great views of the countryside. Galle was a very interesting town based on an old Dutch fort. Whale watching was fantastic. Staying at the Hill club hotel in Nuwara Eliya was fun. They bring hot water bottles to your room! The climb up Lion's rock was a highlight.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Roshan is very experienced. He has led this trip over 200 times so knows the route well. He organised everything very efficiently and gave us plenty of useful information as we went along. The driver Garmini and his mate Nisha were very good too. The driver made us feel safe at all times. He was amazing in some situations! They were a good team . Nisha was on hand with the umbrellas when it rained.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take a waterproof! You need good trainers but not walking boots. You don't need to take formal clothes for the Hill club....men can borrow jackets and ties. Change money at the airport...about £200 per person and then you can get more if you need it in Kandy. The food is very good....lots of rice and curry but there is great variety. Plugs vary...take an adapter but some hotels have UK sockets. Take swimming costumes..several hotels have pools. No need for towels. Take a hairdryer....most hotels provide one but not all. Binoculars would be useful..lots of colourful birds.

Vietnam cycling trip

A vey well organised group with experienced friendly leader and his team. great group of fellow travellers. varied itinerary with wide range of travelling experiences.(bike, train, boat) and excellent accommodation and food. T^he bikes were maintained in excellent condition,

Most Inspirational Moment

Cycling down a 30km descent in torrential rain !

Thoughts on Group Leader

Lam was fanatstic.Experienced, helpful with great attention to detail . He had an amazing knack of delivering bad news (e.g steep hill coming) whilst smiling all the time! His back up team of drivers and mechanics were also very friendly and helpful

Advice for Potential Travellers

Vietnam is not quite as flat as you might be led to believe. There are plenty of "undulations "but still amazing cycling away from the usual tourist haunts

Fantastic Iceland Break

Although we were unable to see the Northern Lights due to the overcast conditions this did not detract from the fact that this was a real Icelandic experience that we thoroughly enjoyed.
Excellent program of things do and see let by Orri our very enthusiastic, knowledgeable and friendly guide. His knowledge of Icelandic history and Icelandic tales added to the enjoyment of the trip.
The variety of the program and timings meant that we had lots to do and see avoiding more busy times of the popular locations.
The hotel Laki which we stayed in for two nights was especially nice and well located.

Most Inspirational Moment

The day that we did the glacier walk.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Orri was excellent and just made the trip all the more enjoyable. As above his knowledge and how he put that across was both entertaining and informative. He also kept a close eye on everyone to make sure that they were comfortable with the activities and enjoying themselves.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Don't worry too much about seeing the Northern Lights as there is so much more to see and do on this trip. They are just a bonus. Both the glacier walk and the cave walk provide experiences that you will not be likely to try again.

Finnish Wilderness Week

A beautiful journey of snow filled landscapes and frozen lakes. Looked after from arrival to departure. Delicious hot food every day and competent friendly and efficient staff

Most Inspirational Moment

Storytelling in the dark by leader Henri. One seriously creative and skilled guy like a great teacher one never forgets the

Thoughts on Group Leader

Dedicated and hard working to ensure we were all looked after at all times. Incredible knowledge on all levels yet humble and funny. Someone I will never forget and use as an example of goodness and kindness yet strong and inspiring

Advice for Potential Travellers
