Highlands of Sri Lanka

A thoroughly enjoyable group tour of the southern half of Sri Lanka. Highlights included an overnight ascent of Adam’s Peak and whale watching off the south coast.

Most Inspirational Moment

Reaching the top of Adam's Peak in time for sunrise (notwithstanding that the clouds had gathered).

Thoughts on Group Leader

Sujan was excellent throughout and provided good local knowledge and background information - all with a nice sense of humour.

Advice for Potential Travellers

It's worth doing some homework on Sri Lankan birdlife before you leave, and take a good pair of binoculars.

Cuban Highlights

Very enjoyable and well organised. Lovely rides through varied countryside and interesting towns which transported us back in time and gave fascinating insights into the country’s history. Routes were good and the bikes ideal for the various challenges – hills, road surface etc. Pleasant helpful supportive staff always ready with water, snacks and repairs if needed.

Most Inspirational Moment

Happy Cubans! Despite its troubled history and obvious deprivation it is a land full of fun and welcome. Whether cycling through rural villages or in towns we were always greeted with cheerful "Holas!" and waves from smiling adults and children.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Lenay was an excellent group leader and tour guide. She speaks very good English, has an extensive knowledge of her country's history and culture and is thoughtful, witty and helpful.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Just go and embrace their vibrant world of sun and salsa and have plenty of Cuban currency. Although it is not the land of plenty and the food is bland the facilities are very clean!

Discover Chile - An Excellent Introduction to a Stunning Country.

This was an excellent trip. Having seen many stunning photographs of Chile, I went on the holiday with high expectations. I was not disappointed and indeed my expectations were exceeded. It is a truly stunning country with a huge variety of dramatic scenery, friendly people and interesting wildlife. This trip is a very good introduction to the country, covering a lot of territory in two weeks, allowing you to identify the bits to come back to with more time at a later date.

Most Inspirational Moment

The highlight for me was Patagonia. It reminded me of the better parts of New Zealand, Alaska and the remote northern parts of Canada. We were lucky to have good weather in Torres del Paine National Park so I got some good photographs. The optional boat trip back to Puerto Natales was exciting and, although quite expensive, was well worth the additional cost.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Alex was knowledgeable and attentive without being intrusive. He was a pleasure to talk to and gave sufficient information to enhance the travel experience without overloading us with lots of facts that we probably wouldn't have retained. Occasional problems were sorted out quickly and efficiently.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Although not physically demanding, this is an intensive trip with a lot of travelling, so best suits those with sufficient energy to really enjoy the experience.

Fantastic tour of costa rica

Lovely tour of a beautiful country

Most Inspirational Moment

We loved all of it but especially esquinas rainforest lodge, so fantastic to stay in rainforest with all the wildlife. The food is good and plentiful everywhere, most of the accommodation is great. Lots of wildlife to see.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Very knowledgeable about wildlife and ecosystems, clearly loved his country and was keen to share all aspects of costa rica

Advice for Potential Travellers

Some journeys are long , audiobook and headphones would be worth taking. Do take binoculars even if you are not a bitd watcher, those without missed out. Lots of wildlife to be seen just sitting still in hotel grounds.

Great & unforgettable introduction to India

A very busy tour schedule but the option is there to opt out of some of the activities: I decided against the 4 hour walk in Munnar because I felt it would be too much for me and didn’t want to slow others down. There was no pressure to do everything. On the longer journeys we made frequent stops to look at things & have a snack or drink so it was always interesting with lots of points of interest. This is a real experience of the culture and life of Kerala and the guide was fantastic in the way he shared his knowledge with us, answering questions and acting as interpreter of food people & culture , A great intro into India in one of the most beautiful areas that in comparison to the north seems relatively affluent. The tea plantations and mountains are outstandingly beautiful.

Most Inspirational Moment

Loved the day spent on the boat - such a relaxing and fun time just watching the world go by, culminating in a group meal in the evening with music - and the men dressed in Keralan Lungis.

Thoughts on Group Leader

The group leader was brilliant - nothing was too much trouble and he gave time to every member of the group helping us to change money, buy drink and advising on all sorts of things - even helping me phone my partner in the UK.. When the tour schedule was affected by a 3 day strike in Madurai he improvised and changed the plans so that we got the most out of our time. He helped the group gel together and always smiled.

Advice for Potential Travellers

This is a great intro to India. Advice for women - sleeveless tops are ok providing you bring something to cover up when needed - like a shawl or thin cover - sometimes you get stares for wearing different things!

A wonderful trip

A mix of walking camping and sight seeing. A wide variety of landscapes and cultural destinations. Every day was new and different. The local guides were extremely well informed and constantly pointed out new plants, animal tracks or agricultural practices when we were trekking. In the Madarai, we learnt so much about the Hindu religion and practices brought to life by our temple visits where we had the privilege of witnesses local traditions including a betrothal

Most Inspirational Moment

Climbing the mountain and the trek as a whole. I found it difficult as I had a breathing problem but I was well supported by the assistant local guide (Edison) all the way. The food was excellent, when walking we had drinks and snacks every mile or so and an excellent three course lunch. Camp sites were good and interesting and the camp cook talented.

Thoughts on Group Leader

V Santosh Kumar was an excellent leader, quiet and modest he was able to anticipate our interests and needs. When we had the storm which washed out our next camp he arranged a decent hotel and for the next day an alternative walk to the local town which was fascinating. Several times he came up with a plan B when people where unable to walk which were thoroughly enjoyable. He also had sound eco principles

Advice for Potential Travellers

The cash free policy and ban in importing or exporting rupees is a nightmare. There is a limit on the amount you can withdraw ATMs are often empty. Please make sure you have your card with a bank that will allow you to register that you will be travelling in India (my bank Barclays doesn't and I was blocked and could have been in difficulties). Take two cards if you can and take every opportunity to withdraw cash in you first few days. The trip leader was helpful with this problem

Snowshoeing in the Catalan Pyrenees

A varied and challenging snowshoe trip with a good mix of cultural activities

Most Inspirational Moment

Climbing to the col on the second day's walk

Thoughts on Group Leader

Miguel was an excellent leader with adequate grasp of English. He has compiled a varied week of activities with extra cultural activities that I have not normally experienced on other snowshoe trips which made for a more enjoyable experience and provided a better insight into Catalan culture. Some parts of the walking were challenging and Miguel modified to walks to reflect the groups collective ability and also the weather conditions on the day. Despite this, the group sometimes were strung out over a long distance and I feel; more frequent drink/photo stops would have been preferable. I would also note that Miguel stayed with the bulk of the group on the free day (normally his day off) so that we could fully enjoy a trip to a local eco museum - this shows a healthy dedication to ensuring we got the best out of our holiday.

Advice for Potential Travellers

As always, read the trip notes carefully and make sure you take good equipment for protection against the weather.

Discover Costa Rica

A brilliant “taster” trip to Costa Rica, which our Guide (Jorge Diaz) skilfully adapted to the group preference for wildlife discovery with several early morning starts to capture the best viewing.

Most Inspirational Moment

I really enjoyed the hot springs near Arenal (and the Pina Colada's!)

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent

Advice for Potential Travellers

Temperatures and humidity vary with elevation and location. If you are travelling in the Winter (peak) season you will need a sweater or fleece for early morning Quetzal hunting in Savegre

Discover Chile with Alex

Hi had a great time, Alex was one of my best group leaders ever. Chile was beautiful. I give the trip 5 star. Thank you, Rich Semega.

Most Inspirational Moment

The scenery was beautiful.

Thoughts on Group Leader

My group leader Alex was one of the best ever.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Bring many different kinds of clothing.

Snowshoeing in the Pyrenees

Accommodation good(though lighting in Roni room inadequate) and beds very comfy.

The food was good – though if you were a true vegetarian, the choice would be very limited. We eat fish and so the food was fine.

Stunning scenery and remote.

Interesting activities organised by the leader

Most Inspirational Moment

The snowy views on day 2

Thoughts on Group Leader

He was very enthusiastic and clearly loved his native Catalonia, and had arranged for us to experience true Catalan food at a youth hostel and to meet a cheese maker. He put a huge amount of energy into the holiday and enthusiasm into the holiday and brought wines for us to taste and appreciate. Even on the Day Off, he came along to the excellent Eco Museum to translate for us, and then to go to a cafe for lunch. He had researched the walks well and they were varied and beautiful. We were slower than most of the group and had to turn back on a couple of occasions because of a muscular strain. We felt it would have been better if he'd discussed it with us quietly away from the group rather than so publicly.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Remember there are no shops in either village - and change money before you arrive.
