Leopards, leopards and yet more leopards - with cubs

Another amazing week in the Masai Mara. Don’t be afraid to go during the “rainy season”. We had so many top quality sightings of leopards with cubs, lions with cubs, a cheetah kill and a new born elephant. Of course this cannot be guaranteed but we had very good fortune as well as maxing the time out searching for photographic opportunities. The guides were excellent and worked hard to get us into the best position for photos, whilst respecting the animals and ensuring they weren’t disturbed by our presence. Lovely food and comfy tents – hot water bottles in our beds and in the jeeps were well-received.

Most Inspirational Moment

Spending quality time with a new-born elephant who was learning to walk and suckle and very playful leopard cubs

Thoughts on Group Leader

Paul Goldstein - you can read all about him in other reviews. Without doubt, you won't find a more hardworking guide, determined to maximise your experience

Advice for Potential Travellers

Brace yourself for getting up around 5am and not returning to camp until 19.30 - every day. This safari isn't for wimps.

A complete adventure in one trip

If you are looking for diversity then this is the trip for you. From cloud forest to rain forest to mangroves; this trip goes everywhere.
The drives between the accommodation stops were incredibly scenic and an adventure in themselves; even stopping our mini-coach (causing a traffic tail-back) whilst Juan and Alex were “assisting” a snake to slither across the road.
We have been on many wildlife holidays around the world and were surprised that Exodus only rated this as 3 out of 5; it could easily have been given 5 paws.
All our viewing expectations were met (and massively surpassed).

Most Inspirational Moment

It is impossible to single out one moment. There was not much down time but who cares when you can go on a holiday like this.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Alex Castro; a walking, talking encyclopaedia. A fantastic ambassador for his country, his profession and Exodus. His enthusiasm was infectious and his organisation was terrific. NOTHING was too much trouble. This was our second trip with Exodus (Ancient and Modern Japan being the first trip) and the quality of guiding is outstanding.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take a thick note book; there is so much wildlife to see and identify. We flew direct with BA rather than transit through the USA. Exodus will offer this if you ask. The arrival and departure times were also much better suited for us. I understand that this is a new BA route; perhaps Exodus may adopt this in time.

Excellent Atlas

The mountains were beautiful, the group was fun, and the guide was awesome! The food was not suited at all for vegetarians and vegans.

Most Inspirational Moment

When all the group members helped me out when I was sick

Thoughts on Group Leader

Knowledgeable, friendly, safe

Beautiful Bhutan

Bhutan is a beautiful, peaceful country that is very much worth experiencing. The people, including and, in fact, especially our guide were lovely, helpful, genuine and gentle. The Tiger’s Nest is well worth the arduous trek up to and the Dzongs, nunneries and monestaries were all a privilege to see. In some ways the experience felt like going back in time.

Most Inspirational Moment

Being given a blessing by the head monk in the Tiger’s Nest monestary. Seeing how caring our guide, Kunzhang, was towards my mother. Witnessing a religious ceremony, including chanting, drumming and horn playing, in a monestary.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent. Can not fault him. Went out of his way to support my mother.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be aware that the festival you attend may be crowded. Surprisingly for us, it was by no means the highlight of the trip. Note that the weather forecasts for Bhutan are not accurate: we packed far too many warm clothes. It can get a bit chilly in the evening, but during the daytime it’s often sunny and warm, even in March, when we visited. (Sadly, it was explained to us that the climate has changed in Bhutan due to global warming). Take some of your own food, especially if you have dietary requirements, as it is bland and similar wherever you go: hotels seem to think that tourists want only veg, rice, noodles and poor quality meat.

Everest Base Camp

An excellent but demanding trek amongst the most beautiful scenery.

Most Inspirational Moment

Reaching Base Camp &Kalla Pater and also reaching Lukla at the end of the trek which inspired a great feeling of "mission accomplished "!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Bikash made a good trip into a great one! I really can't fault this man,he was excellent in every respect-a top man and a credit to Exodus!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Get fit,go with a positive attitude and enjoy! You CAN do it!

Unmissable Jordan

This was one of the most interesting and inspiring cultural trips I have been on. Our guide was superb and the history, along with the scenery in Jordan, made for a truly outstanding 10 days.

Most Inspirational Moment

It is impossible to pick one particular moment as there were many. The top 5 highlights for me were, lunch overlooking the Sea of Galilee, the Roman City of Jerash, the site of Jesus' baptism at Bethany, Petra and the Wadi Rum, but, on any other holiday, many of the other sites we visited in between would have been in the top 5 too.

Thoughts on Group Leader

I cannot praise Eyad Al Banna (Eddie) highly enough. His historic and current knowledge of all things Jordan and the Middle East was exceptional and he imparted it in an interesting, humorous and patient manner that truly made the holiday. Eddie really brought the group together and did a great job keeping us all pointed in the right direction, dealing with personal matters quickly and effectively, all whilst telling jokes and constantly having a smile on his face. He is firmly in my top three guides from all the adventure and cultural trips I have been on.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Make the trip and enjoy it. Do not worry about travelling in Jordan just because it is in the Middle East. The people are very friendly and it feels totally sage

Great week of trekking

Undiscovered Atlas is a great week of trekking, which, for me, was pitched at the right level. There were some challenging parts to the trek, but not so difficult that it was not enjoyable. It was great to visit a remote part of the country, where there were few tourists, but the locals were very friendly and welcoming. I felt like I had a proper break away from normal life, which felt great! The food was simple, but fabulous and I enjoyed it all. I would definitely recommend this trip to others.

Most Inspirational Moment

Reaching the peak of Jebel Aklim was great, it was a challenging hike up but felt great a the top!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Youssef was a great group leader. He was very experienced and knowledgeable and had a good relationship with the group. He lead us across some remote areas and I felt completely confident and ease at all times. Thank you Youssef! The rest of the team should also be thanked ie the drivers, cooks and extra guide. They were all very professional.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take plenty wet wipes, spare socks and underwear. There is no showering, but it felt nice to put clean things on after the day's trek. Also take blister treatment eg compeed and tape to prevent blisters. Also, no electricity so taking a power monkey / charging device is useful if you are relying on taking photos on your phone, for example.

Peter Hodge

I am aged 62 with a decent overall level of fitness but no previous experience of trekking and limited day hike practice.

I found this trek very ‘do-able’ and a fantastic way to experience the marvellous scenery and huge peaks of the Himalayas. The pace was very steady, the acclimatisation gradual; and the combination of group encouragement and the novelty of the scenery made the walk a pleasure.

The tea houses were basic but clean and comfortable and the food wholesome.

Most Inspirational Moment

Not a moment as such, but the soaring mountains were an incredible sight through the trek.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Prasant was a great group and team leader. He led the group with great patience and good humour, balancing leadership with friendliness and always willing to go the extra mile to make our tour a success. He was knowledgeable, competent, and happy to share his knowledge of the country, its people, and wildlife.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Discuss your requirements with Exodus in advance to see if there are ways in which the package can be tailored to meet specific requirements such as flights, extensions.

Costa Rica experience

An excellent trip with an opportunity to experience a good range of different habitats. Accommodation all of a high standard. Eco-lodges particularly good. High standard of food throughout the trip.

Most Inspirational Moment

Experiencing both cloud and rain forest environments.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Outstanding. Very informative. Knowledge of birdlife exceptional.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go on this trip if you are interested in wildlife - particularly birds. Take a reasonable camera with a good zoom lens.
