A varied holiday

This was one of the most enjoyable holidays I have had. The accommodation, the leader, the walks, wine tasting, food and weather were superb.

Most Inspirational Moment

The walk on our last day to the highest level of the week followed by an excellent dinner.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our leader was very caring and concerned about her party. Although she was quite new to the role she was very well informed and led the walks with great confidence.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Several people in the group went to Venice on our day off and my impression was that those who enjoyed it most had planned in advance where they wanted to go and how to avoid the worst of the crowds. I and another lady went by bus to Connegliano and had a really good day. It is a lovely town so we shopped and then climbed up to the Castle which was very interesting. We had an excellent lunch at the restaurant up there with magnificent views.

A good balance

Our recent cycling trip in Sardegna exceeded our expectations- our tour leaders were central to the enjoyment and value of the journey. Michele and Alessandro were in high spirits and their enthusiasm and friendliness enhanced the overall experience.
Although the weather began in “unseasonal” conditions with cool temperatures and some light rain, the spirits of the group remained high and safety was always paramount.
The accommodation was really good and the food was excellent with nourishing breakfasts supplying plenty (excess) fuel for some reasonably challenging days in the saddle.

Most Inspirational Moment

The long day on which we encountered some significant hills, stretches of dirt road and river crossings along with ancient and disused mine sites culminating in a long climb to our serene agritourismo accommodation, was really memorable. We were lucky to have a fantastic group of people with varied backgrounds and cycling experience. The group displayed good humour, patience and collegiality and this was what made the trip more memorable.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Michele was an excellent tour leader. It is clearly not a job that suits everyone but his positive attitude and enthusiasm for his work was infectious. He managed group dynamics with patience, humour and energy whilst working hard to iron out the inevitable problems which occurred throughout the trip. He remained encouraging for all ability levels and was key in creating a good group atmosphere. He should be congratulated because it is the attitude and experience of the personnel which ensures the success of this type of operation. Michele also had a good working relationship with his assistant Alessandro and together they formed a great team.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Obviously there is a choice to be made when tossing up between a guided versus a self- guided trip however from our experience it is the knowledge of the guides which provides the real opportunity to learn more about local customs, history, geography etc which makes all the difference. It would be easy enough to navigate ourselves but without the insights of our leaders we would have had a less meaningful experience. I would highly recommend this trip and our guides to all who are considering it.

Wonderful full of surprises

This was my first time travelling solo I was so lucky to meet a group of 8 who were great company & good fun. Alex, our guide, gave us a warm welcome & we soon felt like old friends. The Cortijo was a perfect place to stay with views over the village in a peaceful location. The walks were spectacular, fantastic scenery & with help from Alex we identified many wild flowers it was like a nature trail. An ideal time to visit & I will certainly return.

Most Inspirational Moment

Watching the sunrise over the hills with the cuckoo calling.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Alex was the perfect group leader. He was charming considerate, very informative & shared his love of nature with us. We were a happy group had lots of fun & laughed a lot. Thanks to Alex for making it so special.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared to be pleasantly surprised when visiting this quiet corner of Spain. It has so much to explore & enjoy. A real delight for nature lovers.

Highlights of Turkey

Wonderful introduction to this huge and beautiful country.
Ancient history, beautiful coastlines, Turkish Baths, friendly people, gorgeous food

Most Inspirational Moment

The Wow moment was the Roman theatre at Aspendos,

Thoughts on Group Leader

Aysenur Geng was excellent, her depth of knowledge was incredible and her organisational skill very good. Personally I did have some problems with her pronunciation of English

Advice for Potential Travellers

be prepared for anything

A great introduction to the wildlife and way of life in the Rodopi mountains

A brilliant and unusual combination of great walking and wildlife interest. On holidays these are usually separated but this worked so well, as you really came to appreciate the environment in which these animals, plants, reptiles etc flourished. Julian did a fantastic job in explaining everything and I think we learnt a lot in a week – he went over and above what was necessary in a leader. The hotel was lovely and everyone very friendly and helpful. The bears and wild boar were the highlight, also the short cut in the truck on the way home from the hide!!!

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing the blue Rodopi mountains for the first time

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent leader, good people skills, kind and knowledgeable, passionate about his interest in the wildlife and local culture.

Advice for Potential Travellers

I found a walking pole useful on the steeper slopes. I think a good level of physical fitness is required for this trip if you want to do all the walks. The distances are not long, but we had quite a lot to cover during the day and then the bear watches at night.

Bulgaria Bears. Excellent walks at a steady with informative breaks

Inspiring views with Julian who was very well informed and put the information across in any easily understood and entertaining way. Only saw one other group in the week and the occasional person on the walks.. Hotel and food was plane and good

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing the bears from the hide. The views were a close second

Thoughts on Group Leader

Friendly and well informed and a good communicator

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take good boots and a walking pole for on the screed.

Wonderful Galicia

This was an amazing experience and one I will never forget. I was invited by a best friend and whilst i wasn’t sure I could do the whole walk, coming from couch potato status, I made it with the help of our wonderful guide Jose, the support of my friend and everyone in the group. The Galician countryside is just beautiful and we were blessed with some lovely weather in May, mostly blue skies and sunshine but not too hot. Most of the walk is through beautiful woods and the scents of the countryside even from farmyard to Eucalyptus trees was wonderful.

Most Inspirational Moment

There were several moments along the trip which were amazing but I really enjoyed the lovely little town of Portomarin, dinnner at O Mirador restaurant and the views of the reservoir below.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Jose was just amazing. He was full of energy, always smiling and really took care of us all on the trip. I can't imagine we were an easy group to manage as we had different paces and abilities but Jose always knew where we were and kept us in check. He was also very kind and caring looking after our blisters to make sure we made it to the end!

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you are going to bring a book, just bring the one. You are pretty tired each evening and after dinner most nights, it was straight to bed! Bring two pairs of walking socks for each day so you can change them and keep your feet dry.

What's not to like?

Lovely hotel with super staff (Thank you Maria and team) good local food and beautiful scenery.
Interesting and scenic walks punctuated by examination of scats, bear ‘mesage’; trees, orchids, birds and mammals,

Most Inspirational Moment

My first real life sighting of brown bears in the wild. A lovely introduction to Bulgaria too. I knew so little about the country and its history and certainly hope to return.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Julian is incredibly knowledeable, and thoughtful group leader.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Worthwhile adding a coupel of nights in Sofia if you can. It's not quite your average capital city and it gives some historical context. The airport is at the end of a train line so meeting the group there is easy.

Great varied trip, sightseeing, steps, history, steps, marvellous scenery, nature and walks

This was an interesting and varied trip with a wonderful variety of sights, history, walks and scenery.
The pace was great, I like the 2/3 nights in a hotel format.
There were an awful lot of steps involved, I don’t just mean walking I mean up and down sightseeing. Fine for most but maybe worth mentioning. Also the gravelly surface on the up hill part of the Mljet walk in heat made it a more than gentle walk! Trainers were perfectly fine, not walking boot terrain really, walking pole may have helped. The Korkula walk has a bit of a rocky scramble in one tiny section.
The guide Dino, was wonderful, enthusiastic, helpful, compassionate and easy company.
Great restaurant Marco Polo in Korcula and for a light lunch in Dubrovnik Oliva Pizzeria, lovely Greek salad and cold beer! Watch out for prices in Dubrovnik, we found a huge difference for coffees, lemon etc.
Walk the Dubrovnik walls early, we were on them by 8.30, by the time we were off them about 2 hours later (we wandered and took photos and time) there was a steady stream climbing the entrance steps, and it was hot…early May!
That’s it….great trip…go ahead and book it.

Most Inspirational Moment

The walls of Dubrovnik, and Ston...and Mjlet

Thoughts on Group Leader

He was great. Dino did everything possible to make the trip what we wanted it to be. His first trip too, our group will be forever emblazoned across his memory!

Advice for Potential Travellers

OK, see above re walking poles and trainers.
