Cycling Vietnam

The guide, Lam and his support team, Lanh, Giau and Y were magnificent. They looked after us very well and everything ran like clockwork as a result. They made us feel capapable and confident to do the most challenging rides safely.

Most Inspirational Moment

The smiling children who greeted us throughout all the villages. The whole trip was a highlight.

He clearly has a good relationship with his support team and we all benefited from their close team work. Lam made a point to ensure everyone felt included and confident about the arrangements.

Move away from the hustle & Bustle of Japan and explore the Lesser known Islands - A proper adventure!

I was travelling as an Exodus Staff Member: Immerse yourself in the various Onsens & Public baths, cycle, Hike and explore using mostly public transport! This trip had a little bit of everything, you felt like you were getting to see the real Japan, away from the bright lights. Having said that, we still saw some larger towns such as Nagasaki, Fukuoka (at the end of the trip) and Osaka (just one night at the start) so you do feel like you have scratched the itch of everything whilst not hanging around in one place for too long. After a busy day, you could relax in the hotels hot baths or swimming pool, it does take a little getting used to as a Brit who isn’t used to Onsens but once you do it’s an amazing post day relaxation. We saw the start of the Chery Blossom season having gone in late March early April so it was great seeing them bloom the further south we travelled. The food was so fresh and reasonably priced too – Overall as my first time travelling Japan, I absolutely loved it and will definitely be going back.

Most Inspirational Moment

Cycling blissfully along the Shimanami Kaido, we had stunningly sunny weather which definitely helped but the route, although along some roads (can't be helped sometimes) was a lovely change of scenary! The hotel we stayed at the previous night was also a highlight for me, the Hotel Cycle which was a great introduction for what was to come.

Ayako was amazing, she was very informative, went out of her way to ensure we had restaurant options every night and that all our needs were catered for. She was proud to show us her country and also curious to learn about ours along the way.

Advice for Potential Travellers

This is a level 3 trip, so it's busy and the cycling and hiking days can be tough, depending on your fitness level. You mostly pack up a little bag and send your larger bag on to the next hotel so pack light, and be prepared to unpack a big bag and re-pack the bags. Sending the big bags along takes some time so even though you might be at a hotel for two nights, you could only have your big bag for one of those nights before you have to send it to the next hotel - Be prepared, I took so many clothes I didn't need so less if definitely more on this trip.

Manaslu Circuit Trek

The guide, assistant guide and sherpas were amazing, they made the whole trip very special. We were also really lucky with the weather and honestly the whole thing from start to finish was perfect, i loved it and also fell in love with Nepal!

Most Inspirational Moment

The highlight of my trip would probably be the pass day, it was very exciting leaving so early and being the only people out at 3am and then to see the sun rise and the mountains all around us. Reaching the top of the pass was a great achievement celebrated by all. I also loved spending time walking with the guides, they made it a special experience teaching us some nepalese along the way and I even got to go in to the kitchens of one of the teahouses to learn how to make my favourite meal!

Glenda is an amazing leader. We couldn't have had a better guide, she knew everything about flora, fauna and history. On top of that she was always smiling. And she's extremely well organised - every day she send us a whatsapp message about the next day: when to meet, what to bring etc.

Vietnam Highlights

Wonderful country, such friendly people, Ive been recommending Vietnam and Exodus to everyone I know.

Most Inspirational Moment

Ha Long Bay boat and excursions from the boat Imperial City in Hue & rickshaw ride The food! Such good quality, in particular the lunch in Hanoi and the vegetarian banquet in Hue. If anything, it was too much of a very good thing The Eco Farm in Hoi An Having Sanh Le as a tour guide Tbh it was all good - hard to separate out the highlights as it was one big highlight.

Thoughts on Group Leader

A real credit to Exodus. He managed difficult situations with pragmatism, optimism and humour. One of our party broke her leg on Day 1 and Sanh did all he could to facilitate the rest of her holiday. He imparted knowledge of each region, the culture and history of Vietnam and gave us a flavour of day to day life. He is very personable, open and engaging and reminded us of the schedule and shared any health and safety concerns.

Discovery Costa Rica

overall very good. Itinerary was good and varied – couple of places I would certainly not return to but a couple that were spectacular and I would happily go back to.

Most Inspirational Moment

Quetzal sighting and Esquinas lodge .

Thoughts on Group Leader

Overall good. very personable, good information and history. Only not so good was the forest walks with 16 people were not conducted as well as they might have been - as it caused some some discontent with the people at the back etc . Some extra excursions- over priced and not worth it.

Advice for Potential Travellers

dont bother with the night walk at Monteverde. Some walks are hilly and uneven terrain - so not suitable for people with any sort of mobility issues.

An unforgettable journey through Sri Lanka

This trip felt like a genuine deep dive into Sri Lanka rather than just a highlights tour. The itinerary covers a huge amount of ground, but it never feels rushed or overwhelming. One day you’re exploring ancient ruins and temples or climbing a rock fortress; the next you’re in lush green hills or spotting wildlife on safari, before unwinding by the sea.

What really stood out throughout the trip was how friendly and welcoming the Sri Lankan people were. Everywhere we went, we were met with smiles and kindness, which made the whole experience feel even more special and memorable.

Most Inspirational Moment

Rather than one defining highlight, it was the contrast throughout the journey that made the biggest impression. The shift from busy cities and cultural sites to the calm, green hill country felt particularly striking, especially with the cooler air and sweeping views over the tea plantations. Climbing Sigiriya stands out as a real sense of achievement, while the safari brought a completely different kind of excitement. That said, some of the most memorable moments were the simplest: watching daily life unfold, enjoying the scenery, eating lunch cooked by a local family, waving to children as we cycled or walked through villages, and the unexpected interactions along the way that gave a real sense of the country.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Ruwan was an excellent guide. His organisation was spot on, keeping everything running smoothly without it ever feeling overly structured. His bus talks were engaging, full of insight into Sri Lankan culture, history and everyday life. He created a relaxed, friendly atmosphere within the group while remaining highly professional throughout.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go with an open mind and be ready for a varied pace, some days are busy with activities and places to explore, but these are balanced by a few relaxed moments. Pack more T-shirts than you think you’ll need - you’ll definitely go through them quickly in the heat and humidity. Also, don’t underestimate how much the group dynamic adds to the experience. Spending time getting to know your fellow travellers really enhances the journey. Most importantly, take time to appreciate the smaller moments - interactions with people, the changing scenery, and the little details that make Sri Lanka such a rewarding place to visit.
