Madeira walking

The walks were well planned and we were lucky to have a well rounded and very pleasant group.

The first two days were rather “easy” but after that the walking took us further afield and we spent plenty of time off the beaten track in some wonderful landscapes. Overall I think the walking could have been a bit more challenging, overall only just a “moderate” walking grade.

The hotels were fairly modest, they were simple, but fine, twice there was no wi fi in the rooms though.

Funchal worth a visit in its own right.

Most Inspirational Moment

The levada's are fascinating as well as unique, the walk along the Levada do Caldeirao Verde was really memorable and it was a glorious day. The early rise for sun rise on Pico Ruivo and the walk to the summit and back down into the Nuns Valley to the hotel was the longest day and the best and the hotel has a stunning location - a really memorable "five star" day.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Andre was very on top of his job, he planned and explained well and was always pleasant company with a well rounded knowledge of the island although perhaps with a bias towards flora and fauna, I'm not sure I picked up much about contemporary social and economic life on the island.

I enjoyed the week in Provence. It was my second trip with exodus and I found the hiking challenging especially Thursdays hike it was exhausting in the heat.I loved visiting and hiking through Forcalquier and the village of Moustiers Ste Marie and our guide Isabelle made the holiday as she is so knowledgeable about the plants and trees and looked after all of us so well.

Most Inspirational Moment

I loved hiking around the Verdon Gorge and visiting Forcalguier and Moustiers Ste Marie.I enjoyed eating out at different restaurants but with a large group trying to get separate bills was always a problem.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Isabelle is an excellent group leader.she gave each of us a detailed and photographic account of what was in store for us for the week. All the walks and terrain the surrounding areas etc.she had put in booklet form in a folder for us.She had a box of dried fruit and nuts and seemed to know when to distribute them when are blood sugar was low due to the hiking in the heat. She is kind and had other treats for us native to the area.I personally think Isabelle makes this trip by her knowledge of the trees and plants her enthusiasm and knowledge.

Advice for Potential Travellers

I would tell potential travellers that the hikes are challenging especially when it’s 30degrees and above.Thursdays hike the steepest is a real killer not for the faint hearted.

Well worth the long journey and as the guide says it won't feel like 10 hours. Guide was excellent and lunch stop was great. The Incan site in the afternoon was really stunning and a great way to end the adventure.

Would really recommend this extra trip. Only negative was the hotel which was not the one in the trip notes and was far from the standard of the other hotels.

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing the views from the Incan burial site and the feeling of isolation and how far removed from every day life this place was. A rainbow appeared which made it super special.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Easy to understand and good knowledge of area.

Advice for Potential Travellers

It's a long way home , 3 flights so be prepared. Also make sure you allow for all the tipping!! It's a big addition to the cost of the holiday.

Worth doing the inca trail in comfort. Hotels are nice and having the extra weight makes a big difference.

Excellent trip, you need to be fit as the trek is not easy but it is well worth it when you get to Machu Pichu. You learn a lot on the way from the guides and their support is genuine.
Food was really good and overall the trip was fantastic and you get to see some amazing places.
The tents could do with an update.
You need poles but those who didn’t have them were able to hire which is great.

Most Inspirational Moment

Getting to the top on day 2 and making an offering to the gods was really special especially as I really struggled with the altitude . So it was great that our group leader had waited and didn't rush us and allowed us to have this special moment. Obviously being in Machu pichu was very special too.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Smithy was really lovely and his partner Xavier was an absolute star. He was so patient when I struggled with the altitude. Only comment I would add is as we were slow we sometimes missed out on the commentary but his knowledge was incredible and so passionate about his country and its wonderful historical sites.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Make sure you follow the fitness guide and bring warm clothes.

Beautiful Tuscany

Wonderful week – three lovely walks through the Italian countryside and some delicious wine tasting! The wonderful Hill top towns we walked to and through were beautiful and, Siena and Florence were amazing. However, the latter was very busy, but that I suspect is due to the place.

Most Inspirational Moment

Arriving at the airport in Pisa to a welcome and then meeting others in the group. I knew it would be a good week. Looking down on Florence from the car park enjoying good food, wine and company

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our tour leader Mark was well organised, knowledgeable and made everything interesting and great fun. his attention to detail was second to none and he knew where to find the best coffee, cakes, wine, ice cream everywhere we went!

Advice for Potential Travellers

The walking is not flat so be prepared to walk up and down hills! Mosquitos and insects abound, so some insect repellant and bit cream is a must! A liking for red wine and good food certainly helps, as does enjoying breakfast outside looking over the beautiful Tuscan hills.

Lovely mix of food, wine and culture

Lovley holiday. Great overview of many different towns visiting lots of cultural sites. Amazing food and wine, with great tours and tastings. You’ll never be hungry or thirsty 😉 on this trip.

Most Inspirational Moment

Going up mount Etna, an optional extra but well worth it! Going to buy lunch in the local market was a great experience and visiting the different producers was very interesting. The Etna wine tasting with food pairings was really fun. There were so many great bits, it's hard to pick only one!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Rosario was very good! Got us from a-b, fed and watered us. He was very knowledgeable about the local areas and answered any questions or querys with the patience of a saint! What more could you ask for :)

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take a larger suitcase or sacrificial clothes! There was so many things we wanted to bring home. Nothing too unwieldly though, as there was a few short walks to some of the hotels with some uneven surfaces.

Spain

This is a wonderful combination of walking in the lovely Sierra Nevada mountains and then staying in Granada, although we extended our trip to give us 3 days in Granada, which meant we could explore most of this interesting and beautiful city.

Most Inspirational Moment

I loved the wide expanse of the mountains and the family run hotel in berchules was just perfect, the staff could not do enough, so friendly and lots of lovely home made food. Granada is a wonderful city to explore, churches and Alhambra amazing

Thoughts on Group Leader

Knew the mountains well

Advice for Potential Travellers

Many of the walks involve rivers and river crossings, so waterproof boots and some agility needed. Food is very plentiful so be hungry! Well worth extending stay in Granada we stayed in same hotel. Perfect

Mount Toubaki

We love this experience, it was challenging however so insightful to be immersed into another culture and to experience a trek through the Atlas Mountains.

Most Inspirational Moment

Making it to base camp

Thoughts on Group Leader

Fantastic

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for night time climbing

Wonderful trip

Had a wonderful time on this trip. We were 18 people in our group which is a perfect size something I love about Exodus tours.

There was enough guidance from the tour leader and enough free time to do what you wanted.

Loved staying in the village of Bomerano rather than down on the Amalfi Coast because it was less crowded and more of an authentic experience. The hotel Due Torri Is lovely and the staff is wonderful. The food was fantastic.
My only complaint are the beds. The mattresses are so hard there’s no cushioning. It’s as if the springs are right below you.

Most Inspirational Moment

hiking the Walk of the Gods and seeing thr incredible views down to the Amalfi Coast.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Eduardo is wonderful, he's funny and he made us all laugh. He knew everything about where we were going and everyone there.

Advice for Potential Travellers

go on this trip! bring hiking shoes or boots if you want to do the walks and hikes which I highly recommend
