Breathtaking trek to the Inca Capital of Machu Picchu

The Inca trail, organised by Exodus, was a thrill ride from beginning to end.
I was so impressed with the organisation of the trip. We were looked after so well that I didn’t have to think about how I was going to get around, or where my next meal would come from.
The two guides were a constant source of fascinating facts, and helped keep the group motivaated.
The group of Porters were superhuman. The camp site was stripped down as we left. They marched (And sometimes ran) past us during the trek. And always had the camp ready when we arrived. If this wasn’t impressive enough, the meals were already in the process of being prepared.
The food provided by the chef were delicious. Hadn’t expected to be eating such great food. Fish, meat and chicken were the evening meals. Also popcorn was provided as an after trek snack. So impressed
I would recommend this trek to anyone. And if this is how Exodus organise their trips, I will definitely use them again!!

Most Inspirational Moment

Arriving at the Sun Gste and looking down on Machu Picchu for the first time. Utterly breathtakingly!!

Thoughts on Group Leader

The group leader was a font of knowledge. He was always full of energy and enthusiasm. He was also very good rumoured, which fitted in with our all-british group perfectly.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Book with Exodus, and don't worry about a thing. Take your time on the trek. It's not a race. The second day is a big asscent, and you don't want to rush it. If you start to feel the effects of altitude, you should take a break and slow down. Many of us had mild headaches, and a few had digestive upsets. But don't be put off by this. It's all manageable, and the trek leaders are used to dealing with it.

Amazing, fantastic, loved it

Loved it, loved it, loved it! I had wanted to visit Bhutan after seeing a film about scientists looking for the Yeti decades ago. Didn’t see a yeti but found a country that is so special, with a landscape that is so special and with people that are so special.

After the dirty madness of landing in Kathmandu the feeling of peace on landing at Paro airport for the start of the Bhutan trip was very special. Bhutan is a clean, welcoming country at peace with itself.

The trek, although not demanding, was lovely and gives a snapshot of a wonderful countryside.
The visits to various dzongs and stupas was interesting and the final visit to a monastery where the monks where involved in some of their rituals for a village festival the next day was fascinating.

As a vegetarian and an animal lover this country was the nearest to perfect for me. Loved the food and the fact that although there were dogs everywhere (they are mostly cared for by the community or the monks) I never saw any in distress or starving (as I did in Kathmandu).

Most Inspirational Moment

The explosion of colour at the monasteries, the prayer flags in the mountains, the fact that shop keepers put out food and sacking on the pavements for the street dogs, the peace, the tranquility of the mountains and the humility and care of the support crew on the trek.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Both Norbu and Ganga were kind, gracious and thoughtful. Norbu's knowledge of his country is excellent. The whole support crew both on and off trek were kind, considerate and looked for ways to help.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Kathmandu is dirty, loud and unpleasant. I was a woman on her own and would not have been happy wandering around after sunset on my own.

Huh?

This was a very well organized trip that my wife and I greatly enjoyed.

Most Inspirational Moment

Apart from meeting some wonderful people, the walk into Santiago de Compostela was awesome.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Did not have a group leader.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be aware that there are some mighty hills to contend with. Also, because on some days the proprietor of the accommodation needed to come and pick you up due to the fact that the accommodation was well away from the Camino, there was often a long wait after completing the days walk/bike. A bit of a drag when all you want is a hot shower and a beer.

Varied walking in The Picosd'Europa

It was probably the most challenging trip that my wife have done together and despite being in our 70’s we felt equal to challenges with Alvarro’s encouraging approach.
The walking varied from forest trails to gradual ascents with some sce=rambling on the penultimate day.
The Cliff walk on the free day to Llanes was delightful and a contract with the mountains.
The Carres gorge was very special and we were fortunate to be there at a cool time of year and with few other walkers,
We have been on half a dozen or so trips with Exodus and this was up there with the very best

Most Inspirational Moment

Scrambling to the top of a 2000 metre peak

Thoughts on Group Leader

He was conscientious knowledgeable and utterly committed to our safety and enjoyment. He was one of the very best we have travelled with- almost up there with Sarah Bull.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Expect to be challenged but there are many opportunities to opt out if the going gets too tough. The Hotel may appear a bit spartan and basic but the quality of the service and the food and the overall spirit of the place is exceptional.

My perfect India trip,

From the madness of New Delhi to the beautiful unspoilt Sikkim area. This India trip does it all.

Most Inspirational Moment

Walking though farms and villages that have not had tourists though the area before. truly magical moments.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Sonam and Dipesh, where both great leaders, full of information and kept all the group together. Any questions asked and problems where quickly answered and sorted.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Make sure you have warm clothes,it’s gets cold and windy at night on the ridge.

Unspoilt area

Varied walks, which tended towards the moderate rather than leisurely. Everyone at the hotel was friendly and helpful.

Most Inspirational Moment

Arriving at Potami Bay at the end of the walk from Platanistos. The taverna with its long table laid out just for us and sole use of the beautiful beach too.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Cecile was an excellent guide. Engaging and knowledgeable. She rearranged our walks around the weather conditions.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Poles were very useful when descending some of the rocky slopes.

Review

The excellent mix of landscapes, history, flora and fauna made the early starts and miles on the road worthwhile.

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing the view over Machu Picchu for the first time.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Raul was good company and kept everything running smoothly. The all-in-one tour he arranged for the first day in Cusco was a great use of the available time.

Advice for Potential Travellers

There are times at high altitude - take it slowly.

One of the best trips ever!

Madagascar is amazing with so much unique wildlife, plants and trees. A well organised trip, with good accommodation. Comfortable bus with lots of breaks on the long journeys. A mixture of leisurely time on the bus and in the towns, with some very strenuous treks in the reserves. Be prepared for heavy rain and blistering heat as you pass through the varied landscapes.

Most Inspirational Moment

The ancient baobabs in the spiny forest.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Very organised and efficient, but some of her commentary got lost in translation.

Advice for Potential Travellers

As above. Pack everything especially a head torch and walking poles.

jonathan scott safari

outstanding in every way. kicheche camp just superb – accommodation, service, friendliness and food all as good as it can get.
hard work though getting up at 5.15 every day and being out till 6.30 in the evening. no issue though – that’s what we signed up for.
our drivers / guides were absolutely top notch and really great to be with.

Most Inspirational Moment

just all the wildlife, scenery, colour and open spaces. the maasai village part made the trip very special.

Thoughts on Group Leader

brian from canon just great

Advice for Potential Travellers

not really

Beating expectations

From the lovely hotel family, who went the extra mile for me when my case was smashed by Ryanair, to the delicious and plentiful meals ,and the comfortable hotel with its great fire this was the perfect base for our superb trek. Great varied walking with Dan as guide who was a fount of knowledge of all things floral, trees, history, people.
Just go for it .

Most Inspirational Moment

The winding path down to the Roman bridge at the bottom of the gorge and then back up to a crazy restaurant in the village.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Very good, inspired catering for those with long legs and also those with shorter ones and those under the weather. Very knowledgeable and friendly with everyone. Gsoh.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take wet weather clothing
