There were several, the views over Lucca from the tree-covered Guinigi Tower, and from the summit of Mount Sumbra, plus the view from our room when the clouds eventually lifted.

Sara could not have done more to make the most of the weather with which she was presented on the first two days, and her arrangements in every other way were spot on, including her advice for the non-walking day. A great companion and guide.

Alan was outstanding.....really knowledgeable, enthusiastic and organised. Nothing ever seemed to be a problem or too much trouble as he just sorted things out.

Take toilet roll and hand gel as not always available. Download VPN before you go if you want to access internet as some sites are blocked.

Serena was an excellent group leader. Her local knowledge gave us chance to explore the area's beauty spots and culture thoroughly.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Some of the walks are up steep terraces in the vineyards, but are worth the effort, once the top is reached. Walking poles can be useful on some of the rocky and steep paths.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Serena was an excellent group leader. She took care of the diverse needs of the group and kept us all happy. She even carried 2 bottles of prosecco up to the top of a climb, so we could all sip some while admiring the excellent view point we had reached.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The walks can be testing, due to their unusual steepness up the terraced vineyards, but are always worth the effort. Walking poles were an advantage, as the terrain can be rocky and uneven in places.

Be prepared for dreadful cobbled streets. You need sneakers with a good grip!

Sarajevo, the resilience and friendliness of its people when important issues are still unresolved. It is a living, fascinating city. Montenegro and especially Kotor. An intact, walled old city on a harbour surrounded by steep mountains and with a fiercely independent history. The high mountains and deep river valley's of the countryside with remote villages.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Sabina was excellent. She was knowledgeable, friendly, helpful and shared the remarkable history of her family to help us with understanding the rich cultural environment. Her warmth and humour helped bind the group together. Our driver Damen was very professional and soon gained our confidence with his driving on the steep, tortuous, narrow mountain roads.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Old men be warned, there are very few public toilets and stairs and steps are steep and rarely have handrails. The roads are unremittingly winding so bring a remedy if prone to car sickness. Read up on some history before going, it will enrich the experience.

First sighting of orangutans in their natural habitat. Surviving the bamboo longhouse. Conquering, albeit temporarily, my fear of heights on the non too safe looking canopy walkway in Mulu. Manuel had to leave after a couple of days due to family illness & was replaced by Talia. Both were knowledgeable, patient & extremely professional.

If it isn't there already put Borneo on your bucket list.

The most hilarious moment was during our watch of the Orang-utangs when another visitor had left his back-pack open and this was spotted by a sharp-eyed male who shot down from his tree, snatched a crisp -packet from the bag and shot up another tree where he ripped open the packet and starting eating the crisps - never underestimate the intelligence of a primate!! My other memory is of the traffic and the number of mopeds all overtaking cars and lorries with abandon and with no overt action from the car,etc. being overtaken - a lesson in politeness for Westerners!

Elly our group leader was very efficient and got us in a group to the right place at the right time - no mean feat considering all the different ways of travel.

Take a poncho as it can rain heavily.

Standing on a hilltop and seeing the great wall stretching out for miles over mountain peaks that look so steep that you'd think they would be impossible to climb let alone build a wall over.

Our leader in Beijing was Alan, he really was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble for him, on numerous occasions he went out of his way to help us, I really can't praise him enough. Our guide in Xi'an was Chris, he was OK, nothing more than that.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Having done a number of treks with Exodus don't underestimate the physical challenge that this trip offers. Don't be fooled by the distances in the trip notes, it is very up and down with hundreds and hundreds of steps. When we were there the weather was very hot and that also played a part.
