Discover Costa Rica

From start to finish this Discover Costa Rica trip was fabulous. Guillermo Arrieta was a superb guide and we saw a huge number of animals and birds. Really well organised throughout.

Most Inspirational Moment

Esquinas Rainforest Lodge, Piedras Blancas Seeing dozens of hermit crabs on the beach at Antonio Manuel Hanging bridges optional tour in Monteverde cloud forest The beautiful gardens and wildlife in each accommodation we stayed in.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our guide Guillermo Arrieta was fantastic; he made the tour quite magical. He was a biologist with 30 years experience and had incredible knowledge of wildlife, whether it was mammals, birds, reptiles or botanical plants. Guillermo and our lovely driver Carlos were always on the look out for creatures.

Chimps & Gorillas of Uganda

The wildlife-viewing surpassed my expectations. Apart from one hotel, all of the accommodations were excellent. The itinerary was very good.

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing the gorilla babies playing, on the second day of gorilla-trekking. Watching chimpanzees in Kibale Park. Meeting the local women employed by Ride 4 a Woman Community Initiative. Boat trip on Lake Mburo.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Umar was a wonderful guide and driver. He imparted a lot of information about Ugandan culture and customs. He was knowledgeable about wildlife and ecology.

Tour Of Mont Blanc Hike. A Dream Come To Reality

Our guide and group completed this awesome-inspiring adventure with joy, satisfaction and with memories that will last a lifetime.

Most Inspirational Moment

Reaching the high point of every day. In particular reaching the Col De Tricot. Wild flowers lining the countless zigzags to reach the Col, with incredible views of the higher mountains on multiple sides and with a supportive group and leader.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Eagle was a confident, resourceful, and king group who led our group and kept us going at a satisfactory pace that balanced the schedule with the physical abilities of our group, the personal preferences for enjoying the journey, landscape and food, and doing it with tactful and considerate guidelines for achieving our daily hike goals. I have only praise for Eagle, would recommend her to hikers from any level and would gladly journey with her at the next opportunity. She has incredible resilience, physical endurance, a fine sense of humor and always a thoughtful word for the group.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Pack light, and then lighten your selections. Worry not about having all you might need but learn to make do with the bare minimum in your backpack. Simply focus on enjoying the hike itself by not being overly burdened. Ask for Egle as your guide!!!

Well worth the challenge

This was a challenging trip, but well paced. Every long climb was rewarded with spectacular views, and often a cake at a refuge. It was great to be part of a large, friendly group – everyone helped each other out with the camp pack down in the mornings, and encouraged each other along the way. The satisfaction of completing the circuit, and being able to look back at the mountain passes we’d covered was huge.

Most Inspirational Moment

Hiking close to the glaciers and appreciating how awesome they are.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Egle was always cheerful and encouraging, and kept us well informed about what to expect each day. Albert cooked us plenty of delicious, nutritious food which everyone appreciated and enjoyed.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take walking poles, even if you don't use them at home. This is a very big walk and they will be valuable. Expect to be tired, but also to be rewarded with amazing views and a sense of achievement.

Interesting but difficult trip

Beautiful views along the cliffs. Challenging cycle conditions with deep sand sections, rough gravel roads, and several steep climbs.

Most Inspirational Moment

Arriving at the final hotel after an extremely hot and dusty day.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Ricardo is knowledgeable and enthusiastic about his country. His English is excellent.

Advice for Potential Travellers

E-bikes with experienced cyclists struggled more than non e-bikes in the sand sections. 50% off road seems longer due to the slower speeds off road. Porto to Lisbon is €1200 less money per person. Still looking for that extra €1200 in this trip cost.

Reply from Exodus

Thank you for your feedback. We’re glad you enjoyed the stunning cliffside views and appreciate your comments on the cycling conditions. We understand that deep sand, rough gravel, and steep climbs can be challenging, and we’ll continue working with our local operator to ensure the route remains rewarding and manageable for all experience levels. We hope to welcome you on another adventure soon.

Albania: Europe’s Best-Kept Secret (But Not for Long!)

From ancient ruins to alpine peaks, Albania swept me off my feet with its wild beauty, warm hearts, and unforgettable surprises at every turn.

Most Inspirational Moment

It is rather difficult for me to pinpoint the most inspiring moment of this trip as I was totally blown away everyday. Albania is still a hidden gem in Europe — rich in history, unspoiled landscapes, and warm hospitality. Everyday of this trip provided a different landscape - who knew there was mountains in Albania - I know I didn't.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader Artur - was such a genuine person, he was so open and honest with the Group on how Albania was, is now and looking to the Future , which gave me a deeper understanding of the country, that I know I would not have found had I chosen to go on my own. Everything about him and how he presented epitomized the Albanian hospitality we felt everywhere we went. Artur, conducted a wine tasting in Berat, found the most wonderful places to eat, often off on backroads of towns - which were more authentic. He could work out bills at the end of the evening like a proper accountant and genuinely enhanced the trip. The other part of any group road tour that is exceptionally important is the Driver. On our trip this was Diu. His masterful driving skills gave myself and the group complete peace of mind on every journey, even on the more adventurous routes. More than just getting us from A to B, Diu consistently showed a real concern for our well-being and enjoyment of his country. Always on hand to assist members of the group on and off the bus, offering help and suggestions on local food to try and ensuring everyone felt looked after throughout the trip. He truly made the logistical aspects of the tour seamless and enjoyable and between him and Artur we could not have asked for more.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Packing for variety is key here - exploring cities, hiking in mountains, and relaxing on the coast. Layers, comfy walking shoes and something for the cooler evenings in the mountains. Sunscreen as it gets hot even in June Cash is King - While cards are accepted in bigger towns, many places (especially rural ones) prefer cash. Bring some euros or withdraw lekë locally. Try Everything Once – Albanian cuisine is a delicious blend of Mediterranean and Balkan flavours. Don’t miss Byrek, grilled meats, and fresh seafood! and remember the Albanian Saying Raki is Love! Brush Up on History – Albania’s past is fascinating and complex, and varied with Byzantine, Greek, Roman, Fascist, Communism and Ottoman all mixed in here. A little reading beforehand will make visits to places like Butrint, Berat and Gjirokastër even more meaningful. Stay Connected - or Don't - wi-fi is decent in most hotels, but can signal can be patchy in remote areas. As Albania is not in the EU a lot of data roaming packages will not work as in the EU and you may need to buy a pass

Tajikistan adventure

This was an excellent trip through the high Pamir region of Tajikistan. Expect fabulous scenery, warm hospitality from the local people, and a certain amount of roughing it. If you are not prepared for dormitory accommodation sharing one long drop toilet with up to 20 people this is not the trip for you. Much of the journey is at high altitude over 4000 metres with little time to acclimatise.

Most Inspirational Moment

Viewing the snow capped peaks of Engels and Lenin, the Hindu Kush and high peaks of western China all in one day.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Dido was a star. He led the expedition with knowledge, skill and humour. His communication skills are excellent

Advice for Potential Travellers

Bring a sheet sleeping bag, pillow case and towel for the homestays. The food was excellent and plentiful. This is not a good trip for vegetarians. Drinking water was provided throughout. Diamox helps reduce the symptoms of acute mountain sickness eg insomnia and appetite loss. It was always possible to recharge phones and other devices. I took a powerbank but did not need to use it. Even though we travelled the border with Afghanistan and China we always felt safe. There were no "dodgy" moments. There are several walks on this trip to break up the hours in the cars.

Gorillas & Masai Mara - Camping

The team looking after us on our trip were absolutely great, nothing threw them off their stride, and they were so quick, efficient and friendly – they made a good trip great. The amount that was packed into the two week trip was awesome.

Most Inspirational Moment

The Masai Mara game drives, the ballon ride over the Masai Mara, the game walk at Lake Naivasha, the white water rafting at Jinja, and trekking to see the Mountain Gorillas.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Clara was absolutely awesome, could not have been more helpful and cheerful, and ran her team with great efficiency. Could not praise her enough.

Awesome holiday

A great week walking in the Alps, magnificent views, changing terrain, good company and food, pleasant accommodation and a very competent leader

Most Inspirational Moment

It was all great, with a new highlight everyday. Lac Blanc on the final day was magnificent but some of the quieter locations were also very special

Thoughts on Group Leader

Group leader was great, clearly a very competent mountaineer, with strong knowledge of the flora and fauna as well as the local terrain. Egle also had a great good humoured manner of keeping the group together whilst letting people find their pace.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Consider also the other variant TMB holidays that Exodus offer. This one is probably the toughest! Carrying all you kit in a backpack in hot weather is hard work, believe most of us wish we had packed lighter!

Do not miss this trip

A challenging, awe inspiring hike!
Cool evenings and unseasonably warm days in the valleys. Great friends made. Wildlife discovered. Windy cold and amazing summits. Fresh local produce and cheeses.

Most Inspirational Moment

Looking down on field after field of lush green pastures full of wild flowers and being surrounded by snow covered peaks, while hearing the streams rushing by and cow bells over the next ridge.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Egle is exceptionally suited to lead groups through these mountains. She truly loves them and shared that love of the mountains with her group.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take training for this hike very seriously. Be sure to practice ascents and even more descents on loose footing.
