Rides in the countryside
Worked with and led the group well.
The. Country and environment is beautiful.
I have completed 3 other trips with Exodus that were 5 Stars. I couldn’t do the same with this trip.
The waterfalls were spectacular!
Vana was very nice and a great hiker. I wish she would have been more communicative with us about the history and culture.
Be careful with what you eat and the homes up the mountains are quite difficult (days - Thursday and Friday). Check with your leader to ensure the walk aligns with the itinerary and notes. The hotel information has not been updated.
The level of insight provided into the many aspects of Peru culture and its history were amply demonstrated on the tour by the archaeological site visits , the iconic Machu Picchu and the beautiful Lake Titticaca with its island communities. In addition the knowledge of the the tour guide which was shared throughout the tour brought real depth to my understanding of this fascinating developing country
So many it is hard to discriminate but of course a Macchu Picchu, the Colca Valley and Lake Titticaca
Giscard was in my view an exceptional tour manager. He is warm, friendly and kind. I felt safe throughout and well informed by his local knowledge. He is passionate about his work and country and goes the extra mile in the face of unpredictable difficulties to ensure that everyone’s needs are met as fr as possible.
The hiking tour of the Mount Blanc mountains and area around Chamonix was an amazing experience and adventure. We were very lucky with the weather which for the most part was lovely, but the variety of walks and views made each day a different and thrilling experience. The chalet was cosy and well looked after by our hosts Seb and Carol, who made us feel very welcome, and prepared great breakfasts and lunches to keep us going, as well as delicious cakes as a welcome treat when coming back from a hike, and very tasty and filling dinners.
Every day was different, but my favourite trek was Lake Blanc which was beautiful, and the hike was amazing.
Adrian was a brilliant group leader. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the area and the different routes and also very friendly and went above and beyond to help each of us have the best week possible. He really helped keep everyone motivated and entertained on what were sometimes quite gruelling hikes.
We were very lucky with the weather, but even on the warmest days it was cold in the mornings, so bring layers to put on and take off. A set of water proofs, just in case, is also a good idea. Some of the hikes were more challenging than we expected. If you're reasonably fit and are okay to do the occasional scrambling over rocks or up ladders you will be fine, but by the end of the week I think we were all physically tired and glad to finish. Also, plan ahead for the day off so you don't have to scramble to find something to do or end up with no plans. Chamonix is lovely but you won't want to spend all day wandering around the shops and cafes.
Fabulous trip. We saw the famous cities and sites, and also travelled out into more remote areas. A real insight into the geography, the culture, and the history
Too many to mention. The merging of soviet influences on top of earlier history in Tashkent, breathtaking buildings in Samarkand, treasures around every corner in Khiva, the desert, remote settlements and 2500 year old forts, making dumplings during the homestay, wonderful people...
Muhammed was a fabulous group leader. Not only did he share his expert knowledge of the country past and present, but he managed the logistics of the trip seamlessly so that we could just relax and enjoy the adventure.
Currency - take US dollars, easy to change them at the airport on arrival or at exchange booths in the cities. Clothing for ladies - best I suggest to be covered from shoulders to below the knees to fit in with local norms. At religious sites you will need a head covering (I used a scarf for protection from the sun as well, others had a hat). I did see one or two ladies in vest tops and shorts in the cities, and they were not getting frowned at but personally I would have felt uncomfortable vs what locals were wearing. Shopping - Samarkand or Khiva for silk scarfs and clothing. Bukhara for embroidery eg wall hangings - the quality here is better than the earlier cities. If shopping in the cities vendors will happily quote in USD or euros but once you have agreed a price, if you are paying by card will of course convert back to som for the transaction...watch the exchange rate, I'd suggest better to haggle in som. We usually got around 10-15% off through haggling. Travel - there are some long journeys by road and rail. Aircon on the trains goes off in the stations, and you can be there for half an hour, so be prepared to get hot! The road to the Aral sea is awful - more potholes than tarmac. Everyone is very welcoming - don't be surprised if you are asked for your photo, or to have strangers coming up to you for a chat. Security is absolutely not a concern. Food - good, and cheap! Though veggies in our group did struggle on occasion. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this trip - go, and enjoy!
Very good varied and well organised itinerary. Guide (Petro) was excellent – we were very well briefed for each day, she had great knowledge of everything from places we visited, wildlife/birds/flowers to life in South Africa as well as being fun company with us all making it a very enjoyable trip.
Seeing the wildlife (Addo, Scotia and Hermanus whale watching) were the key highlights for me-we were very lucky to see so much on this trip. Other highlights were Table Mountain, Boulders Bay, Cape of Good Hope visits.
Petro was excellent - a first class guide, well organised, very knowledgeable, good company and great fun.
Stunning scenery, hilly walks but easy terrain. The Cortico has great views and the outside areas are lovely. Bedrooms not so much. Some rooms are very small, I was allocated a small single room with a single bed, think student dorm, for which I was charged a extra!!! I have marked the trip down for that reason
Plentiful food with alternative diets well catered for .
Sunrise and sunset from the terrace
Peter was excellent
Single travellers who pay the supplement should request a double room. Lot's of fish and seafood so bear this in mind and request an alternative when booking if you don't like or can't eat fish
Accommodation – family run hotel. excellent food. Guide (Jose) – superb. Great people skills. Assessed everyone’s abilities and tailored activities to match this and take account of the weather conditions.
Nothing specific. The walks were varied with different terrain meaning every day had its highlights. I really enjoyed part where there was scrambling up rocks.
Jose - superb leadership skills with local knowledge about history, geography and the natural flora and fauna. I could not fault him. He assessed the weather, making adjustments where required because of the heat and also the ability of individuals - ensuring everyone was able to enjoy the trip. He ensured everyone was included and felt safe. HIs stories were interesting and really added to the experience. HIs passion for the Sierra de Aitana shone through. HIs sandwiches are superb!
Amazing walking holiday from start to finish.
The views, food and wine.
Excellent
No air conditioning or ceiling fans in farmhouse. Awesome hikes with no other tourists.
Our trip met and exceeded all our expectations. The area was wonderful, and the itinerary was really well designed. The transfers were all very well organised in clean and safe vehicles with experienced local drivers. Most importantly, the tour guide was highly competent and experienced. He made the trip a huge success.
Too many to mention. The first day's walk over the viaduct. The stay in Matera. The stay and walks from the Masseria in Puglia. The friends we made.
An outstanding group leader. Highly knowledgeable and a great communicator. Passionate about conveying the history of the regions. Very caring and respectful of the group. And excellent organiser. And a great sense of humour. We left very good friends. We would love to do another tour with Gabrielle. He's a great ambassador for Exodus.
