Serra Orrios

On the Gollei plateau, near the mountain town of Dorgali, Serra Orrios is a fascinating Nuragic village surrounded by hills and olive trees. The scenic archaeological site, which was inhabited from 1500 BCE, consists of around 70 circular huts and two ancient temples, providing an intriguing glimpse into the ancient Nuragic civilisation.

Gorropu Gorge

With limestone walls stretching up to 500m, Gorropu Gorge is the deepest natural gorge in Italy. It lies among the Supramonte mountains and the best way to enjoy its immensity and natural beauty is on foot. If you visit between March and May, the landscape explodes with colourful spring flowers, while you may also spot European mouflon (a wild sheep with curly horns) and golden eagles, if you’re lucky.

Nora

The ancient city of Nora, inside Pula Archaeological Park, is one of the most impressive Phoenician sites in the world. Just a bit further along lies a partially submerged cemetery, which was only discovered after a storm. Lots of Roman mosaics can also be found beneath the water.

Tiscali

Hidden within a mountain cave, the Nuragic village of Tiscali is one of the great archaeological mysteries in Sardinia. Little is known about the settlement, nor the people who lived there, except that it appears to have peaked between the second and first centuries BCE. Venture inside the vast cavity to see what’s left of the ancient dwellings. It’s also thought the village acted as a hiding place for the Sards, who were escaping the Romans.

Cala Luna

Take a boat over the Mediterranean to Cala Luna, a contender for the most beautiful beach in Sardinia. A crescent of gold underneath forested slopes, it’s certainly a picturesque spot to sink into the sands or take a swim. However, there’s plenty of adventure to enjoy here too. The cliffs are punctuated with large caves to explore, while the cliffs themselves draw rock climbers from near and far.

The island is beautiful, the locals are friendly and the hikes are amazing. The hotel itself is surrounded by mountains, the rooms are lovely and the family who runs the hotel are really kind.

To experience a part of Italy which feels still relatively untouched is truly special. We were often walking without seeing anyone else!
The Scenery is beautiful and these walks offer a variety of coastal, forest and mountain views.
It was a moderate walk, you need to be in good fitness and the summer months can be hot but there was nothing difficult.
The hotel has changed since a year or so ago, so some reviews on here are old. This hotel is a beautiful setting with some great views from the terrace and very spacious. Just a 10 minute walk to the town’s shops cafes and Gelato! The hotel is family run and they are very welcoming and are involved in every area of the hotel. The food was fresh and varied and potions are generous – you wont go hungry!
