The mountains will always draw us back to the majestic country of Pakistan: and now, with the return of a very special trip, they’re closer than ever.
Few things give us more joy than being able to return to an old favourite. And so it is with beautiful Pakistan. One of our most cherished locations has seen its fair share of headlines over the past 15 years or so. But of course, they only tell half the story.
Our Concordia & K2 trip follows one of the world’s greatest treks; unrivalled high mountain scenery, peak after superlative peak – it’s little wonder this remote and remarkable area is called the ‘throne room of gods’.
“Pakistan is a country close to our hearts and it’s been nine years since we operated a trip there, so it’s fantastic that we’re finally bringing it back,” says product manager Louise Ungless.
Pakistan was a trekking classic in the 90s and these days the Concordia and K2 trek is exactly the same as we ran it back then – save for our flight to Islamabad. So we really are ‘bringing it back’ rather than creating a new product,” Louise says.
Despite the press painting a negative picture of Pakistan and the FCO advising against all but essential travel to quite a few areas (although not the area we’re returning to), most areas in Pakistan are perfectly safe, offering some of the world’s most spectacular mountain scenery. We’re fully confident now is the right time to return.
It’s a country deeply embedded in the Exodus story too – with our managing director Pete Burrell having actively led treks there in the past. Of course, it’s not for everyone – this is a tough 13 days point-to-point excursion (with full porterage). But if you’ve got altitude experience and a hunger to experience the world’s most stunning highland treks, this wild and vivid frontier of mountain and sky is unrivalled, we believe by anywhere.
“We fully understand the political complexities of travelling to Pakistan – our trip avoids FCO no go areas by flying to and from Skardu, and we’ll be using a UK leader alongside a local guide too,” Louise adds “the safety of our clients is absolutely paramount.” Pakistan really is a land apart: but we’re delighted to welcome it back into the Exodus family, and back on our map.
