Pakistan is the site of some of the earliest human settlements, home to an ancient civilisation rivalling those of Egypt and Mesopotamia. It is also the crucible of two of the world’s major religions, Hinduism and Buddhism, both of which have their roots in the subcontinent. But for adventure lovers, mountains are the big draw.

Blessed with the greatest mass of high mountains on Earth, in northern Pakistan the mighty Himalaya, Karakoram, Pamir and Hindu Kush ranges all meet. K2 and Concordia, Chitral and Tirich Mir, the Hunza Valley and Rakaposhi: are all names to quicken the pulse of those who love mountains and their inhabitants.

“Pakistan is a country close to our hearts and it’s been nine years since we operated a trip there, so it’s fantastic that we’re finally bringing it back. Pakistan was a trekking classic in the 90s and these days the Concordia and K2 trek is exactly the same as we ran it back then – save for our flight to Islamabad. So we really are ‘bringing it back’ rather than creating a new product. Despite the press painting a negative picture of Pakistan and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advising against all but essential travel to quite a few areas (although not the area we’re returning to), most places in Pakistan are perfectly safe, offering some of the world’s most spectacular mountain scenery. We’re confident now is the right time to return. We fully understand the political complexities of travelling to Pakistan – our trip avoids FCO no-go areas by flying to and from Skardu, and we’ll be using a UK leader alongside a local guide too.”
