Absolutely fabulous way to visit Cuba

The 15 day cycle trip through Cuba was simply wonderful!
It was exhilarating to 1-cycle through small towns and villages and see things and people that other types of tours do not offer. Pressure about cycling was relaxed, so if you were having a bad day or were daunted by the hills, then you could take time off and ride in the bus.

The team on our ride were spectacular! They were efficient, attentive, kind, cheerful and interesting. Our guide Alex, was funny, intelligent, on the ball, accomodating….and informative about many aspects of Cuba and with a good knowledge of Cuban history and society. He made our trip an absolute delight.

On the whole hotels and Casas were good, food was way better than I was led to believe, and the cities and towns chosen for the itinerary were varied and interesting. Well worth the money!

Most Inspirational Moment

Learning about the history of Cuba from discovery...by non Indigenous peoples to present day. Very moving and inspiring. For me just being able to ride long distances was pretty amazing...and the encouragement I had from the tour leader to get up a difficult hills was inspiring too.

Thoughts on Group Leader

What more can I say? Alex was amazing and so accomplished on every level...and so full of passion for Cuba...it was catching. The whole team...Drivers, Alexi and Chacon and the cyclists were uplifted from his leadership.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Practice cycling long distances before you go! Keep an open mind and relax if you aren't experiencing things as they are at home! Cuba is on the brink of change, and a very complicated place....enjoy NOT being online every day. It's refreshing!

Walking the Greek Islands

I loved this trip! I have taken hiking/walking trips with other travel companies, but this was by far the best one yet. It was so well organized – everything went smoothly. The trip leader was well versed in the history of each island – and his enthusiasm for the country was contagious. We got to see parts of the islands that most tourists would never see. If you love the outdoors and love to hike, this trip is for you.

Most Inspirational Moment

For me, it was our last hike on Noxos. It was a bit of a challenge. It was rocky going up and very rocky going down. I wasn't sure I wanted to make the last stretch of it, but others encouraged me and I did it all the way to the top and down. Afterwards, I felt healthy and invigorated.

Thoughts on Group Leader

I think that our leader, Thanos, really made the trip special. He keep everything running smoothly. He was a wealth of interesting information about the islands and their history. I really enjoyed listening to him. His love for these places was evident in his enthusiasm. Also he accompanied us to almost all of our dinners and had great recommendations.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you are going in the fall season, be sure to have extra layers that you can remove as the weather changes depending on the elevations. I thought it would be warmer, but it was chilly in the mornings and evenings.

Superb holiday

The varied itinerary was really well planned and we did and saw things which we probably would have struggled to do if we had been an independent traveller – eg kayaking in Halong Bay; half day cookery course; cyclo tour of Ho Chi Minh City; bicycle tour through the paddy fields; drinking snake wine.

Tham, our Vietnam leader was excellent and good fun. She really joined in with the group. The tour leader in Cambodia was poor. She gave inaccurate information and sometimes abandoned us whilst making frequent trips to the restroom.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Watch out for rats on the wooden boat you stay on at Halong Bay. The one is our bathroom was a low point of the holiday and scary.

Holiday of a lifetime

My wife and I really wanted to see the snow monkeys but never expected that our reason for travelling to Japan could be so overshadowed by everything else this trip has to offer. The shrines, temples, cities and sights are excellent. The people are friendly, helpful and interested in knowing what you think about their country and whilst english is rarely spoken, the locals don’t allow this small detail get in the way of the conversation. The cities are spotless, buzzing yet incredibly safe and we never felt intimidated or felt the need to worry about keeping wallets and the like hidden from view when in crowds. Travelling around Japan on this trip is extensive but never a chore, dull or a waste of valuable time as there is so much to see en-route and even more to see at each destination. Travelling independently is simple with instructions in english everywhere and a refreshingly simple set up in the train and underground stations. Food is amazing with so much choice on the days where self catering required but the food included in the trip is as good if not better than what could be found on the the self catering days. In the ryokan’s we could dress in traditional dress for group dinners which was a giggle and of course there was the relaxing in the hot spring onsen to look forward to as well. The pace of the trip is fast because of the amount of things to see and do but it suits all age groups as could be seen by the group we travelled with. Our group I would guess spanned four decades, got on superbly with each other and to a person we understand everyone had an incredible time. A wise man on the trip (who hopefully will recognise himself if he reads this review) summed it all up by saying “There are not enough superlatives to describe the trip and the time had by all”. Oh, and the snow monkeys were brilliant by the way.

Most Inspirational Moment

We loved the day trip to Hiroshima. The museum was a moment of personal reflection for us and a privilege to sign the petition to abolish nuclear weapons around the world.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Chiko Hansen was our guide and the best without doubt that we have ever had the pleasure to travel with. There was no request too large for Chiko and with a group of 18 people to keep tabs of in the busiest most populous city in the world she never once lost any of us. Chico's knowledge and information was faultless and her love of guiding tourists in her country was evident and infectious in the way the whole group rallied to her every word or direction. Don't know when she managed to sleep what with organising the recovery of forgotten cardigans and iPads, Pokemon shopping trips, birthday presents, wedding anniversary presents, dinner reservations, Karaoke bookings, tickets to the theatre, trips to Fuji and Niko, sumo practice and some of these on free days. When we discussed the trip over dinner on the last night is was apparent that everyone in the group took from the trip a feeling of having had special treatment from Chiko in one way or another which is an incredible skill. Most of all though Chiko was courteous, polite, respectful, attentive and a thoroughly nice lady who felt as much part of the group as a group leader.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Pack economically if possible as there will be so much you want to bring home. If you are considering Japan as a destination then make a list of what you would like to see in both Kyoto and Tokyo before you go as there is so much to see you don't want to waste time when there.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Wild camping is exactly that - wild ; not glamping. So if you need running water and bathroom facilities this trip is not for you. On the other hand if you enjoy stepping out under the stars , book your place.

Walking in Andalucia

It was a very enjoyable week: good walking through beautiful – sometimes spectacular – countryside. Sevilla is a fascinating city, and the flamenco was fabulous. The Cortijo makes a very good base: great cooking, beautiful views, and a very welcome pool after a hot day!

Alexis was the perfect guide: very knowledgeable about the local environment, really well organised, and considerate. He's also a very funny, entertaining guy!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Maybe take some insect repellant – I escaped their attentions, but others weren't so lucky.

Perfect pizza, heavenly Herculaneum

Brilliant planning meant that every day kept the kids occupied, entertained and interested. We loved Herculaneum, Pompeii and all the little towns. The walk of the gods was one of my favorite bits, which was a surprise to me. The scenery and lunch that day was phenomenal! The hotel was lovely – small clean and friendly. Excellent food and the kids loved the pool. Well worth the money.

Seeing Herculaneum was great - we wandered around looking at the street signs etc. The skeletons were very moving. We hired a pedaling and the kids all got to swim 'in the deep sea' which was very exciting for them.

Group leader was excellent- knowledgeable, friendly, helpful. Felt like a good friend by the end of the trip.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take a hat and sunglasses and refillable water bottle. Pompeii doesn't let large bags in so take a small bag for your sandwiches etc

Vietnam and Angkor

This is an amazing trip around a beautiful, diverse country, finishing with 2 days in Cambodia.

Most Inspirational Moment

The optional tours were amazing, particularly cycling around Hanoi, meeting local people, and experiencing some of the local traditions, but the war museum in HCMC followed by a trip to the Cu chi tunnels was emotional and thought provoking. The food was a real surprise, in fact every thing we did has its own special memories

Thoughts on Group Leader

Tham really made the trip, as our Vietnamese guide, she put a lot of effort into organisation, and ensuring everyone's differing dietary requirements were catered for. She was knowledgable, passionate about her country and heritage, with a good sense of humour. It was a shame we had to change leader for the last 2 days, as the group and Tham had built up such a good rappor, it was difficult for a new guide in Cambodia to then step in, which resulted in a few small issues, which was probably the only downside to the tour.

Advice for Potential Travellers

This is marketed as a leisurely tour, however if you take advantage of the extra, optional activities, it is a full on holiday, we had a couple of hours relaxing by a pool, the rest of the time was sight seeing, cycling, kayaking, touring etc, with early starts. Although American dollars are used widely in Vietnam, in Cambodia it is the only currency required.

Inca Trail and Lake Titicaca

The trail was without doubt the most amazing thing I have ever done. An excellent group of people who quickly became good friends, the scenery, the physical challenge, the group leader, and particularly the food, all absolutely first class. Of particular help was the co-ordination of all the transfers and being met by someone helpful at each stage of the journey. We always felt we were in extremely safe hands.

Most Inspirational Moment

We were 64 years old when we completed the trail, something we had dreamed about for several years, always wondering if we had left it too late. There's no denying it was extremely tough for us at times, but the sense of achievement as we approached the sun gate was unbelievable. If we can do it, anyone with a reasonable level of fitness and determination can do it too!

Our group leader was excellent, quickly becoming a trusted good friend. He encouraged, cajoled and helped at exactly the right times.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The Lake Titicaca extension far surpassed our expectations. The journey from Cusco to Puno is a holiday in itself. The most luxurious coach I have ever travelled in, coupled with several interesting visits and a decent lunch along the way. All transfers perfectly organised, and an extremely interesting day in Puno visiting the floating islands and an Inca site. Brilliant, highly recommended.
