A really good, well balanced holiday with an inspired leader

Walking the Amalfi Coast was a really delightful holiday. True enough, walking in the hills in the middle of summer is not everybody’s idea of fun but most of the walking was at either a reasonably cool height or close to the sea breezes. Almost all the walks were at least partly in shade which made a lot of difference in a week of cloudless skies. The walking was not that difficult and needed only a moderate amount of fitness. Plenty of breaks for fluids were factored in.

Walking was interspersed with two days off. One at Pompeii and Vesuvius; a second with a range of alternatives.

Very comfortable friendly hotel with excellent simple Italian food. Delicious!

Most Inspirational Moment

The Walk of the Gods over to Positano was beautiful with spectacular views down the coast.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Martina was an outstanding group leader. It would be hard to improve on her skills. We were a pretty mixed bunch. Sixteen of us, aged sixteen to eighty from Britain, America and the Antipodes might have been a bit of a challenge for any group leader but she got it absolutely spot on. Those of us who saw it will never forget her dance with the goatherd at the Bomerano World Music Festival!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Although the overall grading of the holiday is about right, be prepared to do some sustained uphill walking, even if the distances are not that long and the ascent each day is fairly moderate. Anyone who is reasonably fit and active can manage this.

Extraordinary Region of Italy

I chose the walking tour of Puglia & Matera because I had never seen Southern Italy. I was intrigued by the UNESCO World Heritage cities as well as the unusual architcecture such as Trulli houses. It is hard to believe the range of homes and times traveled – from Neolithic to present in just 7 days. My two favorite cities were Matera and Aberobello. The food was incredible. I ate great vegetarian dishes and seafood dishes all week!

Most Inspirational Moment

I was most overcome by Matera and how this city transformed itself from a slum in the 1950s to the Cultural Capital of Europe in 2019. Seeing frescoes of the Madonna & Child painted on the walls of caves where monks lived in the Middle Ages is transforming. Walking the rocky cliffs from cave to cave took me out of this world.

Thoughts on Group Leader

I loved Marcella! She clearly loves Puglia & Matera and it shows in her knowledge and exuberance. It was a treat when I could walk with her on a hike and learn about her travel adventures. She also picked the most amazing items at the grocery store for our picnic one day.

Advice for Potential Travellers

This is a hard trip in July as Italy was experiencing record heat. Two of our walks were quite hard due to the heat. You really need to be able to deal with the hot Italian sun and temperatures.

Fantastic trip to Vietnam

Excellent trip

Most Inspirational Moment

Cycling on the small roads and of the beaten path

Thoughts on Group Leader

Fantastic could not have done a better job.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Expect the unexpected. Just enjoy the journey

Canadian Rockies

The trip was very enjoyable and our tour leader Simon was very pleasant and organized. He was very positive and enthusiastic about all aspects of the trip.

Most Inspirational Moment

The Canadian Rockies are incredible. It needs to be seen to be believed

Thoughts on Group Leader

Simon was very pleasant and organized. He was very positive and enthusiastic about all aspects of the trip. He made time to chat to all members of the group.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Mosquitos repellent is a must in summer

An experience to treasure

A spectacular trip led by a gem of a tour guide in Martina. It was the perfect mix of activity, discovery and relaxation.

Most Inspirational Moment

There was more than one. Arriving in Amalfi after a challenging walk and trekking around the Vesuvio crater were highlights.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Martina is an incredible tour leader! She is very knowledgeable, fun and organized.

Bosnia and beyond

The trip was everything I had hoped for and more. It is extremely well balanced in that it offers an excellent mix of town and countryside based activities, a mixture of coast, mountains with walking and culture.

Most Inspirational Moment

Walking in Ludomir And visiting Mostar

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our tour guide Sabina was outstanding. She brought the information to life by brining in her own stories and memorabilia. I rarely use the term ‘going the extra mile’ but I really think it is fitting here. Sabina went well beyond anything that can be expected of a tour guide, looking after the needs of all individuals in the group, helping with personal crises and even planning beyond the end of the trip,

Advice for Potential Travellers

Maybe read up about the history of Yugoslavia in advance. The trip works very well without this, but you would probably get even more out of it. Stay on for some more time by the coast afterwards

Pyroplastic fun!

Beautiful with stunning scenery, history and geology – and that was just the group!.

Most Inspirational Moment

The Island of Stromboli with the milky way easily seen due to no light pollution! The peaches grown in volcanic soil were something else. The Stromboli eruptions and night walk were a high point. Swimming in the sea on Stromboli was special too.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Genny was superb. Knowledgeable and competent with just the right balance of guiding and knowing when to give people space. Could not fault her. Thank you so much Genny!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Don't hold back and do everything! The 85 Euros for going to the top of Etna is worth it - it felt and sounded like the mountain would explode at any moment.

Cycling the Baltic States

A really outstanding Exodus cycle trip, aided by the most marvellous European summer. Great group of fellow cyclists, excellent choice of hotels and really beautiful forest cycleways. Tour leader Lina and driver Andre added significantly to the overall experience. We have been on a few Exodus trips and as always we were very well looked after. The cycling was fairly straight forward and relatively easy.

Most Inspirational Moment

So, so many! Hearing Lina’s family history put so much of the trip into perspective. We had the delightful combination of beautiful rides, the sharing of stories and the incredible history of the proud peoples of the Baltic States.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Absolutely sensational! Lina was the best tour guide we have ever had, and that is saying something. Caring, considerate, always looking out for opportunities to improve our experience, there was never a time when she was anything other than a delight to be with. Her willingness to share her story put everything into perspective. Faultless! For goodness sake give her more work, she is a wonderful ambassador for Exodus. I do have to add that your choice of tour guides on all of the trips we have done gives significant credit to Exodus as an organisation. We always look at Exodus tours before considering other travel companies.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you are even reasonably fit, do this cycle tour. A really wonderful way to see and hear about the incredible Baltic States.
