Experiencing this ‘pearl of the Indian Ocean’

In 15 days we enjoyed many varied experiences that enabled us to gain new insights into this exciting, challenging place.
Our accomodation was mostly very luxurious, the food tasty if somewhat predictable in hotels; eating food prepared and served by locals in villages was enjoyable as was playing some traditional village games. Cycling in the countryside and taking to the water gave us a different perspective again.
July was a great time to travel and we saw very little rain ; the temperatures on the west coast were high but the hill country pleasantly cooler – no need for jumpers or coats at all.
Although we missed seeing a leopard at Yala N.P. elephants, warthogs, water buffalo, spotted deer, monkeys, crocodiles and many different birds made up for that. We even saw a mongoose.

Most Inspirational Moment

Elephants coming right up to our hotel’s electric fence was a highlight. Walking on Horton’s Plains was special as was exploring the ancient sites of Polonnaruwa and Sigiriya and watching festivals and ceremonies.

Thoughts on Group Leader

We had an excellent guide who gave us relevant detail about the country’s cultural, political, socio-economic and geographical situation. We felt we learned much about this fascinating country. However, the amount of plastic waste littering the country was a cause for concern.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go with an open mind but don’t expect to be able to do much walking in smaller towns or on beaches near Colombo, which are polluted and not always accessible. Tuk Tuks are the easiest form of transport. Check whether you need to worry about dengue fever when you travel. We didn’t in July so could have had more short sleeves and shorts.

Wonderful

Our Mont Blanc highlights trip exceeded our expectations. The walking was at a perfect level for us as fit 60+ yr olds who climb hills weekly. We were with a wonderful, friendly group with similar abilities and a god guide, Frank. Our hosts, Sarah & Rich were wonderful, warm and well organised and cooked us superb meals and made my birthday there a special occasion. Their meals and afternoon cakes were an unexpected’ icing on the cake’ aspect of the trip. The weather was perfect and the walks varied and spectacular. We loved reaching a summit and sitting on rocks or in meadows to soak up the view and fresh mountain air. There is time to explore Chamonix and on our free day we took the train into Switzerland and visited Emosson Dam via a steep funicular. A great day. We would highly recommend this trip.

Most Inspirational Moment

The views of the snow capped mountains. Hiking through the forests in the lower parts of the mountain. The mountain flowers andmeadows. Waterfalls and swinging bridges. Everything

Thoughts on Group Leader

He was good and knew the area well.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Just do it! Make sure you train by walking up some steep hills a couple of times a week. I felt that this really helped us cope with the walk well.

Discover these trails before the secret gets out

This was a great opportunity for some proper hiking along pristine trails in the Balkan high country. Routes almost to ourselves, with a mix of terrains and environments from deep forest and river valley, to high meadows, glacial moraines and narrow ridges. Plenty of flora and fauna to discover along the way, against a backdrop of incredible scenery.

Most Inspirational Moment

After a long, hard day on the trail, with a hearty meal inside and the firey taste of the local brandy still on the tongue, we were treated to a mesmerizing session by a trio of passionate village folk singers. Some of us were even persuaded to get up and make awkward movements vaguely in time ('dancing' I'm told).

Thoughts on Group Leader

Faultless. Vladimir kept the group in check, while being endlessly patient and cheerful. For me the whole experience was made more complete by Vladimir's extensive knowledge of Bulgarian history, mythology, culture and nature

Advice for Potential Travellers

I'm by no measure a foodie (could happily exist on cheese sandwiches) but was quite surprised at the quality of food, better than experienced elsewhere in the Balkans. Basic but varied, fresh and healthy, with influences from Bulgaria's Ottoman past. Prepare hiking gear well, as can be quite chilly at nearly 3000m, and a drop of rain isn't unusual. For seasoned hillwalkers the trails are a good workout but not overly demanding.

Inspirational treka

Not just a holiday, more of an adventure!

Most Inspirational Moment

Achieving day 2 of the Machu Picchu trek to Dead Woman’s Pass. Although not long as a days trek, the rise in altitude to 4200 metres was tough!

Thoughts on Group Leader

The group leader, Bobby, was excellent in every department. A more capable, competent and helpful guide in all probability does not exist. His involvement with the group was welcomed by all and resulted in the trip being a huge success for the group participants. The information he provided on the various sites visited and the relevant history was most interesting and created further discussion within the group. With regard to the travelling and accommodation, Bobby took full control and made our holiday somewhat carefree, thankfully! A big thank you to Bobby!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take warm clothing for the camping part of the trip as the nights can be very cold!

Awesome Safari

Whilst the driving at times becomes slightly tiresome the sights and nature where fantastic. The group were wonderful and the guide Ben was extremely informative.

Most Inspirational Moment

At Etosha watering hole where we saw 30 elephants walking with there young

Thoughts on Group Leader

He was incredible

Advice for Potential Travellers

Bring a cushion for the trip and definitely bring some decent binoculars and camera

A great holiday with a good mix of cycling (some tough), culture, sightseeing and team bonding.

A great holiday with a good mix of cycling (some tough, and one day in particular-the climb to Nuwara Eliya, not for the faint hearted!) with culture, sightseeing and team bonding all thrown into the mix. But fear-not as if you don’t fancy the climb then there’s always the option of the train from the word go, or the ever-present bus or cycle van bringing up the rear if your just not sure and want to see how far you can get. And this is also the case on any ride on any day of course.
We were lucky to have an excellent, award winning, guide but the standard generally is very high, not least because being a guide in Sri Lanka is one of the most sort after and hard to get jobs, with the result that they all take huge pride in their work. We thourougly enjoyed all aspects of the trip. Any minor issues were quickly dealt with. No major issues occurred because of the degree of organisation, planning, (by the company) and diligence on the part of our guide on the trip itself.
Thoroughly recommended!

Most Inspirational Moment

Making it to Nuwara Eliya!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Superb! (Suresh.)

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take this holiday!

Lovely time!

I had a lovely time in Norway. During the day we were kept busy with hikes in the mountains surrounding the Norwegian fjords – good exercise and beautiful views. Our guest house was charming – was surprised by how nice it was – and the staff was super friendly. We even saw quite a few UNESCO world heritage sites. Overall I was positively surprised with Norway and glad i chose this trip. Great company too!

Most Inspirational Moment

The beautiful views took me away from my everyday worries and who would have thought going onto the glacier would be so much more fun than just looking at it from up close!

Thoughts on Group Leader

I loved Einar - he is young and super humble but he really tried hard to take care of us. Lovely guy

Advice for Potential Travellers

Fitness levels - moderate for one person is challenging for another especially when there are time limits for certain hikes.

Excellent Holiday From Start To Finish

I can’t recommend Exodus highly enough. We were taken care of extremely well from start to finish.

Most Inspirational Moment

The group spirit was great.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Martino was very professional and took very good care of us. His knowledge of the areas we visited was quite amazing. Couldn't have asked for a better guide.

Nice trail,Titicaca and Nazca

A superb trip, very well planned and executed. The views were just amazing and the porters food incredible. We were so well looked after. Our guide, Bobby, was excellent and so informative. He knew all the best places to eat as well! Hotels were all good and we would thoroughly recommend the experience to others.

Most Inspirational Moment

Arriving at Dead Woman’s Pass.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Bobby was brilliant, he couldn’t have been better.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take plenty of thermals for the camping part as it was so cold at night.

Peru at it's best

I cannot thank Smriti, Trehan, Rolando and especially Marcia our guide enough for a quite special experience. Exodus ticked all the boxes for a great adventure, thank you all.

Most Inspirational Moment

Difficult to say, as both the trek and visiting Machu Picchu were so well organised, thought out and made for a special trip - perhaps of a lifetime!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Marcia was so very special in so many ways, her local knowledge of the people ( she is after all a local there) the route, looking after the group but most of all her smile and engaging giggle at every opportunity. We could not have been in better hands!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Waste no time in booking your trip with Exodus!
