Fabulous trip

My husband and and I really loved this walk. The scenery every day was simply spectacular. The accomodation was very comfortable and food provided for us was top class. We had quite a small group of 7 of various nationalities and we all muddled along together very well. I found our trek leader to be very helpful with advice on what to do on days off etc. He was always encouraging along the way and informed us of points of interest, landmarks etc. I did find the walk to be quite challenging and anybody interested in doing this trek needs to have a fairly high level of fitness. I would recommend Exodus travel to my friends, expecially the Tour du Mont Blanc trek.

Most Inspirational Moment

Reaching the top of Brevant on the last day of the walk. It had been a long, long walk up. I felt really proud that I had been able to complete the walk.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Peter Smith was a fantastic tour leader. He was “keep calm and carry on” type of character. He was encouraging and provided me with helpful hints along the way regarding the use of poles, pace and was particularly helpful to me when we had to some, what I think was scary edge walking to do. This was not my strength but I managed well with his help.

Advice for Potential Travellers

This trek requires a fairly high level of fitness. Do a lot of uphill training in readiness and be assured that it won’t be enough. Be determined to finish.

Brilliant leader with spectacular walking

I went away with a friend last week and we had an amazing trip with 15 other people in our group. Our leader Alex is a real credit to Exodus Travel, he was extremely approachable, helpful and knowledgeable and made our trip incredibly enjoyable across the entire week. The scenery and walks were all spectacular and every day very varied. The hotel we stayed in was also very good and the food extremely yummy.

Most Inspirational Moment

Alex was the best leader I have had on any holiday to date and the scenery on the trip was amazing.

Thoughts on Group Leader

The best I have had on any holiday to date. He explained so much to us on local culture and knowledge and taught us how to walk and use our poles which was very beneficial as the week went on.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Poles are very beneficial -would recommend collapsible ones - mid range

This was our first Exodus trip after being recommended by a couple of friends – what an amazing trip!! Absolutely loved it – our guide Martino made the holiday – highlights were Lake Garda, Venice, winery at Pegoaro, views and safe cycle paths, the food and wine of course! Can’t wait for the next adventure

Advice for Potential Travellers

be prepared for all weathers - not so much daytime casual clothes as we went from off the bike, shower and out for dinner - couple of insect bikes - keep a diary and you pack so much in!!

Sardinia ticked all of the boxes

From the initial booking of the holiday to arrival in Sardinia, from the first greeting of our Exodus Rep to the final goodbye, Exodus delivered.
We were well fed (Italian like to feed you, and you’d certainly not go hungry at Hotel S’adde), we were organised, informed and cared for. Our Exodus Rep was knowledgeable of the area, he had scoped out restaurants, bars and gelato establishments and was available to assist and make our trip relaxing and enjoyable.
Sardinia delivered on many fronts too, exciting landscapes, mountain tracks, beaches and caves, boat trips, wine tasting and local cuisine – it has something for all.
For us the holiday was made memorable because of the location and because of the group of people also on the trip, always someone interesting to talk to.
So well done Exodus, another excellent holiday delivered – in the immortal words of Arnold Schwarzenegger “I’ll be back”

Most Inspirational Moment

The landscape The local people -warm and friendly The local wine - great tasting and plenty of it

Good trip

Enjoyable trip. The cycling was tough, but enjoyable and mostly on good, quiet roads. Albania was a pleasant surprise, not appreciably different from many neighbouring countries. The organisation and support was slick. Got to see and stay at places in the country that you wouldn’t normally see a regular tourist. As the country is relatively inexpensive, I was a shame more meals were not included, though these were done as a group at exra cost and worked well.

Most Inspirational Moment

The last day was especially tough cycling, completing the challenge was satisfying.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Very good.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Do it.

Pretty awesome - go!

Everything an adventure should be; stunning country, packed itinerary but plenty of time to do your thing, varied sights but all worth seeing, comfortable and clean accommodation, faultless transport, a great bunch of fellow explorers and a guide who brought it all together with energy, consideration (for us) and passion for his country (thanks Bon!).

First time with Exodus for us, definitely not the last.

Thanks to all involved at Exodus and in Vietnam an inspiring country and people.

Most Inspirational Moment

Having a lunch with local people after 'dropping by' a shamen ritual.

See above - couldn't have been better.

Take the trip!

Wonderful Mont Blanc Hikes

Challenging hikes (for me) of about 8-10 miles per day to either summits or saddles that are part of the Mont Blanc classic circuit. We were blessed with excellent weather and terrific views of Mont Blanc, the glaciers, and the adjacent peaks. This trip fulfilled a lifelong dream of hiking in the French Alps. Great terrain, great guide, and great comrades to enjoy this spectacular place. The Chamonix Chalet was wonderful too, but I was a little challenged in terms of food because I am gluten free and also avoid red meat. I would have liked more cheese choices rather than heavy beet and bean salads for lunch, but the dinners were gourmet! A few times we were a bit rushed to make trains and avoid a long wait at the Mont Blanc Tunnel. This is definitely not a leisurely trip — we were constantly on the go, but it was worth it. Overall, great trip! Thank you Exodus!

Most Inspirational Moment

I think hiking in Italy was very special, because the terrain and views were quite different than on the French side. I enjoyed the two summits the most, but each hike was different and the variety gave this trip a special flavor.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader, Paul, was superb. He is an arborist and is so knowledgeable about the flora and fauna. Plus, he made sure we were all able to navigate the occasional difficult passage. He took good care of everyone and has a great sense of humor. Very congenial and wonderful guide.

Advice for Potential Travellers

This is the second Exodus trip rated "3" that I've done, the first being the Picos of Europa. In both cases, I think a "3" level trip can be quite challenging. Just be sure to train and do regular hikes before you go. Anyone who is fit and used to mountain hiking will be able to complete the tour, but the more you prepare the more you will enjoy it.!

The Trip of a Lifetime

A Synopsis of this amazing trip. . .

After a long drive, a beautiful ferry journey, and a short 2-hour hike on the first day, we hiked every day, 11 days without respite; a daily trek of 8-14 miles climbing a total of 32,000 feet. The stunning views were worth every step; rolling green hills littered with vibrant wildflowers, sometimes dotted with grazing sheep and cows, jagged cliffs and enormous mountain peaks outspreading around us as far as the eye could see. We had the wilderness to ourselves. Besides an occasional shepherd or odd hiker (we saw perhaps 10 hikers in 11 days), the mountains were our private domain.

Most nights we stayed in shepherd’s hut or rustic guest houses, and the living conditions were sometimes trying. The huts had limited electricity, cold water that was delivered directly from the mountain, one toilet, sometimes shower, shared by 17 people, and tight sleeping arrangements on the floor or bunk with separate rooms or buildings for men and women. Getting clean, sorting belongings for daily living, and dealing with basic needs was an ongoing struggle. Without proper sanitation, many of us including me and my husband, contracted food borne illnesses. It was pretty awful and the food was never enjoyable after the days of sickness.

These huts were the shepherd’s family homes and we were invited guests. Besides cooking for us, they still shouldered their unending work, including the herding and milking of their animals which, in awe and wonder, we watched the procession. This was the real deal. Like a step back in time, we experienced a way of life that has endured for centuries.

And here lies the paradox of discomfort: the rough living conditions were the price we paid for the utter joy of hiking in pristine and remote wilderness in almost complete isolation. True authenticity, by definition, cannot be faked. One must take the good with the bad.

The Via Dinarica mega trail is still new and the region has a long way to go in their efforts to develop an infrastructure along the way. We have been blessed to be here in its infancy; it will never be as wild and unique as right now.

Most Inspirational Moment

At our first hut, watching the shepherd and his wife strategically herd the hundred sheep into their paddock for the night, the wife snatching the ewes at the entrance gate, one by one, to swiftly milk them before they joined their brethren. Wonderful and hilarious all at once. A scene I will never forget.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Two leaders; very knowledgeable of the area. Very good.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you train for endurance and cardio you'll be fine. I got fitter and stronger as the days went on and never felt like it was "too hard". Bring hand sanitizer.
