An unforgettable adventure in Borneo

The highlights for me were seeing orangutans (including babies!) in the wild, plus the rare pygmy elephants, alongside so much other incredible wildlife. Our local leader and guides were outstanding – not only were they brilliant at spotting animals I never would have seen on my own, but they also shared fascinating insights into Borneo’s wildlife and culture, which really enriched the whole experience.

I loved the variety of activities too – from hiking through the rainforest to snorkelling in crystal-clear waters, spotting wildlife on boat trips, exploring charming towns, and relaxing on pristine white beaches. It truly offered a little bit of everything.

This trip was magical from start to finish, and the orangutans in particular were such a special sight. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for adventure, wildlife, and unforgettable memories.

Most Inspirational Moment

Spotting our first orangutan in the wild!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our leader was incredible – not only amazing at spotting wildlife but also full of knowledge about the animals and Borneo’s local culture. Made the experience so much richer!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Top tip for Borneo: pack binoculars – and if you love photography, bring a long lens! The rainforest is full of wildlife, but some of it hides high up in the trees.

Breathtaking trip!

Croatia is beautiful! Gorgeous hiking trails, beautiful blue ocean, and mouth-watering food! The itinerary is planned perfectly, allowing you to grasp Croatia’s natural beauty, cuisine and of cause, the lovely hiking trails!

Thoughts on Group Leader

The tour leader for this group was amazing, he's been leading groups for the past ten years and can honestly say that he made us feel at home!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Pack light, you going to want to get souvenirs and hiking boots are essential as the terrain is very rocky and sometimes slippery.

Best trip with the Best Views!!

Great trip in the Dolomites region, this trip is a center based trip which worked out very well, one home base for the entire week. We started each morning on our hikes and saw some of the most specular views of the Dolomites.

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing the Tre Cime/Drei Zinnen in person, our leader started our hike early in the morning to beat the crowds and we were very lucky to be the only people on the trail to take in these beautiful peaks.

Thoughts on Group Leader

We had Mark Brown, he was fantastic, he was very knowledgeable of the area and the Dolomites. He engaged with us at all times and shared meals and stories with us.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Make sure to bring good hiking boots, hiking poles they help so much on the descends. Make sure to bring enough water with you. Always carry waterproofs as rain can sneak up at any time.

Just do it

This was a trip, full of WOW moments with a good dose of awe and wonder.
If you don’t travel well in the back of a hot, very bumpy car for hours on end, this is definitely not the trip for you. If you can’t do without home comforts, or don’t like early mornings or sleep disturbances, this is not the trip for you. If you need your own space, this is not the trip for you. If you are in any way, a picky eater, this is not the trip for you.(having said that, our vegetarian and vegan group members ate as well as any of us)
If, however, you have an open mind, and a ‘come what may’ attitude, this is a trip of a lifetime. The itinerary of this trip is such that we saw more of this amazing country and immersed ourselves in the culture of these amazing, resilient people more than any other trips that we encountered along the way. Some of the journeys were tough, with real abject dangers from their remoteness and altitude but the rewards in terms of scenery and experiences were more than worth it. The homestay hosts were, on the whole, welcoming and generous and they managed to provide well cooked food and little treats, even though they appeared to have so little. We engaged with the local children where possible, and took great joy in teaching them UNO and playing with them. They were inquisitive and always open to any new experiences we could provide. Rubik’s cube was a hit too, as were the kites provided by Safina, our group leader. Because of the extent of the itinerary, we gradually learned so much about this relatively unknown country, both about the richness of its physical geography and the historical, cultural and social, regional traditions and differences. It had its tough moments but they only added to the lasting impression of an amazingly beautiful country of strong, proud and content people who thrive against the odds.

Most Inspirational Moment

It is hard to pick one out of so many inspiring moments but I think arriving at the highest homestay (4200m) and immersing ourselves in the amazingly constructed 'spa' built around the natural hot springs was perhaps it. Showing how to make the absolute most of what mother earth can provide. We take so much for granted back home. This construction must have taken so much effort in such harsh conditions most of the year. Just breathtaking.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Safina was a joy to have as a group leader. Having grown up in the Pamirs, she was knowledgable and informative. She immersed herself in our group and couldn't do enough for us. She always had a smile and was always well prepared and on time. She made us feel comfortable about the potential altitude effects and checked in regularly. As an all-female group, it was easy to see the potential difficulties she may have faced in such a male-dominated country, but she took it all n her stride and trailblazed her way through, ensuring we received the best possible experience. She was an inspiration, not only to us and our drivers, but also, hopefully the local women (and men) in the more 'culturally traditional' areas.

Advice for Potential Travellers

We were occasionally hungry, especially on the long journeys, so I would suggest taking a few snacks along, either from home or from Dushanbe before you set off. I benefitted from drinking electrolytes regularly as the dehydration effects of increased altitude creep up. Whilst none of us took altitude medication, we all had some unpleasant effects which, had they got any worse, we would have needed it. So taking some along would be advisable. Good walking boots. Even though we didn't do a great deal of hiking, there were streams to cross and very rough terrain. Worth their weight in gold.

Excellant Trip

I did this trip in May, the trip itself was excellant. The accomodation in Chalet Bediere was clean and comfortable and the food supplied by Sandro and Violeter was superb (the evening meals, lunch provisions and afternoon cake). I am an experienced hiker and did not find the walks too challenging.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader, Augustine was very good. He provided us with plenty of information about the walks and lots of options for our rest day (which was a rainy day).

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be wary of the disconnect between the Exodus main office staff and their local agents. (1) I was told the wrong rest day. This was rectified but still caused some inconvenience (I had pre-booked a paraglide). (2) After being denied a single supplement solo room I requested if any situation arose whereby I could secure a solo room then I would like one. I ended up sharing so it was frustrating to later discover:- (a) that four people on the trip had solo rooms without paying the supplement (one of whom booked just days before the departure date and two who were split out of a shared twin room because there was an empty room!), (b) that my request had never been passed to the local agents who do the room allocation! Hence only four stars.

Unexpected South Africa

This tour was well paced and a great introduction to South Africa, especially for travelers who enjoy exploring the world and finding the unexpected. One of the biggest surprises was the food. The cuisine was so unique and, as our guide advised us, plentiful. Paired with excellent South African wine, you are completely spoiled. Don’t hesitate to try new things such as Bobotie or ostrich.

All of the areas we visited were beautiful. I particularly loved Hermanus with its charming vibe and a spectacular whale watch, and I will dream of Tsitsikamma for a long time. Gazing into tide pools and spotting a beautiful octopus was incredible. Of course, a big part of Africa is the wildlife and this tour gives you plenty of exposure to many of the animals you hope to see. The elephants at Addo felt like something out of a movie. Cape Town is also fascinating. I had no idea the Cape of Good Hope was so vast. The beauty cannot be surpassed. We were lucky enough to have a perfect view at the top of Table Mountain, as well. The people are incredibly kind and friendly wherever you go and it we enjoyed experiencing the mixture of cultures.

The accommodations on this tour vary, but we enjoyed them all. The guesthouse in De Rust was so special as the hosts cooked incredible meals for us each night and treated us like special friends.

All in all, the time in South Africa was something I will never forget. The people, the scenery, the animals, the food…all of it was so much more than what I expected.

Most Inspirational Moment

Meeting a beautiful octopus in a tide pool and being surrounded by giraffes on a game ride.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Petro felt more like a friend than a group leader. She is so proud of her country and it was inspiring to see it through her eyes.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Being prepared will make the trip easier. Load the Uber app if you don't already have it. Pack some flashlights and a backup phone charger. I am so glad I followed the trip notes because the power was out a few times. Layers are your friend on this trip because the weather changes quite a bit. Enjoy!

Magnificent Dolomites!

Our premium hiking experience in the Dolomites with Exodus surpassed our expectations- the scenery, hotel accommodations, food, guide and hiking group were first rate. The choice of trails and the advice given for our day off were spot-on. I recommend this trip without reservation for everyone who enjoys a challenging itinerary in a breathtakingly beautiful environment!

Most Inspirational Moment

The early morning climb to the Tre Cime de Lavaredo, before the tourists arrived

Thoughts on Group Leader

Mark Brown was our guide. Everyone in our 14-person group admired his skill, tact, thoughtfulness and expert information. He looked out for everyone in the group and was always available to offer suggestions, encouragement and insights to local customs and history.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Poles and lighter weight hiking boots or trail shoes for the rocky ground. Come prepared to take on both challenging ascents and descents and to enjoy wonderful accommodations and food at the Hotel Adler!

An complete tour of Colombia!

If you want to see all Colombia has to offer, this is the trip! From the coast to the cloud forest, you do get to experience SO much culture on this trip. The leader was brilliant and the locals all so very friendly.

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing the different lifestyles every city had to offer

Thoughts on Group Leader

Brilliant leader! Cilfredo was a fountain of knowledge and extremely passionate about his country

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take some really good walking shoes as there are a lot of walking days
