Johannesburg to Cape Town

It was a great trip with varying landscapes, climates and packed with new experiences. The route specially captures the wide landscapes and the wild life of South Africa. I loved it and would recommend it to anyone.

However, Exodus should look into the cleanliness and the conveniences each accommodation provides as some did not meet even the basic standards.

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing the big five in Kruger was very special. A visit to Kruger has been on my list for a long time and to be there was great.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our guide Colly Mohlabine and driver JoJo Molekoa were the best people I have had so far on Exodus trips. They went out of their way to make our trip a memorable one. Even after a long drive, Colly and JoJo made wonderful food and looked after all of us. Colly especially was a great cook. He had extensive knowledge on the flora and fauna and the history of South Africa, which contributed to our experience of the country. JoJo was an excellent driver. We were always made to feel safe, comfortable and well looked after by these two people.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Long hours are spent on the bus that can be tedious. But that way, we got to see various landscapes, towns and villages, which enriched the whole experience for me. There were also early morning starts but were necessary in order to follow the itinerary. Especially the 4 am start in Kruger enable us to see the big five. A treat!!!

Reply from Exodus

We would like to thank Jinny for taking the time to complete a review of her trip.  While we are pleased to read that she enjoyed the trip and would recommend it, we are sorry that she was disappointed with the accommodation at Malealea Lodge in Lesotho.  We have used this property on various trips in Southern Africa for a number of years, and have received generally very positive feedback, this being the first time we have received comments regarding hygiene standards at the lodge.  We were, therefore, very concerned to read Jinny’s review, and have passed them on to our local team to discuss with the mangers of the property.  We remain confident that this accommodation is suitable for our trips, but will continue to monitor the feedback we receive to ensure that our clients do not encounter similar issues on future trips.  Frances Spowart – Product Manager

Cycling the Lakes of Chile and Argentina

Amazing scenery, excellent organisation and logistics. Superb guidance and information. A really interesting part of the world to visit and made me hungry for more.

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing a condor, traversing fjord like lakes with snow capped volcanoes as a back drop. Cycling into the lava fields of Conguillo National Park and walking in the monkey puzzle fores.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent. Very good knowledge of the area, geography, social history, fauna etc. Good sense of humour and very encouraging when cycling was more challenging.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The rides are short but hilly and it is worth doing a bit of training!

Ride those coastal roads!

Stunning cycling on rugged coastal roads, spectacular gorges, though balanced by less inspiring cycling alongside wheat fields on long straight undulating roads. Some cycling on main roads with hard shoulders. Overall, cycling is a great way to see the area.
Plenty of wildlife seen, land based: springbok, ostriches, blue cranes, hawks, buzzards, antelope, hamsters, tortoise, and the big 5 wet ones: penguins, seals, dolphins, sharks and whales.
The wine estates were pristine, wine tastings were slick. Also plenty of craft breweries for the ale drinkers. The friendliness and service at all restaurants, cafes and accommodation was excellent, with a real desire to please.

Most Inspirational Moment

1. sat on a rock next to the ocean watching the sunset over the water at the most southern point, Cape Agulhas (though this was not on the itinerary; i was late to dinner). 2. cycling Clarence Drive and Chapman's Peak along the coast, simply stunning.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Warren was a great leader, very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Adonia was also great, sharing the driving and cycle leader duties. The tour was very well organised.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Keep your wits about you in the city/towns, there are those waiting to take advantage. Use caution at cash machines, don't trust anybody, even if in uniform.

Vietnam

Excellent cycling trip to Vietnam November 2018 – would highly recommend

Most Inspirational Moment

Overall the cycling - seeing and experiencing the country close up

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent leader

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go and enjoy

Brilliant Holiday

This was our first holiday with Exodus; we weren’t sure what to expect but we can honestly say we can’t fault it. Costa Rica is a fantastic destination and this itinerary was thoughtfully put together to show it at its best. The variety of locations was incredible and in each place the standard of activities and of accommodation was outstanding. Somehow every day seemed to be better than the day before. We enjoyed being part of the Exodus group, and having then spent an additional week on our own we realised that a huge part of the success of the trip was due to having an excellent guide and driver to point out things which otherwise would have passed us by. All in all an unforgettable holiday and highly recommended.

Most Inspirational Moment

So many inspirational moments it's hard to decide, for example seeing a newly-hatched baby turtle scuttling to the sea, getting up at 5 to see the Resplendent Quetzal, boat trips at Tortuguero, falling asleep at Esquinas Lodge to the sounds of the rainforest, walking in the cloudforest, being woken by Howler monkeys at dawn (on my birthday!), spotting sloths, monkeys, iguanas and birds, learning about Costa Rica ..... the list goes on.

Thoughts on Group Leader

We were very pleased to discover that our leader was Johnny Villalobos as we had read about him in earlier reviews. He was absolutely brilliant, from his incredible encyclopaedic knowledge of all wildlife to his boundless enthusiasm. He was really friendly and attentive and had a great sense of humour. He made sure that we all got the most out of the holiday and spent a lot of time explaining every aspect of the country, from history and politics, to agriculture, economy, sustainable tourism and everything else. A great ambassador for Costa Rica and for Exodus. Pura Vida !

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go for it - we have no hesitation in recommending this holiday. On a practical note, be prepared for a range of temperatures ( we really did need fleeces at Savegre). Closed shoes are a must for the rainforest treks, as are waterproofs.

Enjoyable trip

A good introduction to the country and a chance to see the majority of the sights, albeit sometimes briefly. The cities of Fes and Marrakech were interesting, and the time in the mountains and Todra Gorge were enjoyable. The food was good, though perhaps dominated by tourist rather than local restaurants. The guide was excellent and the driver good too. Overall it was an enjoyable trip.

Most Inspirational Moment

The city tour of Fes was excellent.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Great in all aspects. Professional, organised, approachable.

Unforgettable Sri Lanka

This two week trip of Sri Lanka covers a lot of ground & various experiences & really gives the traveller a great taste of what this wonderful country has to offer.
We had cultural experiences in Dambulla & Sigiryia , saw elephants & leopard on safari ,experienced hiking, biking, white water rafting, tea plantations, cities like Kandy & Galle, colonial experiences in Nuwara Eliyia , super food & the services of Ruwan an exceptional guide.

Most Inspirational Moment

Climbing Lion's rock in Sigiryia, seeing leopard in Yala, white water rafting in Kitulgala.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Ruwan is a fantastic leader, super organised & efficient but in a gentle effective way. He made sure that we had great experiences. He is clearly passionate about his country & his job & he ensured that we had a memorable holiday. He also was very funny which is not easy when English is not his first language.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for rain most days in November/early December. We were lucky that it was mainly in the evenings but it was still more than we expected. Bring good insect sprays, walking shoes for the hikes & climbs & temple cover up clothes for the temples.

Great winter sun and mountains in view of the sea

Great weather. It was sunny every day apart from one (in December). Aitana and Puig Campana summits were spectacular. Aitana had a fall of snow the night before so we had sun and snow covered landscape with views of the mountains and sea. Great group with a competent and amusing leader (Jose).

Most Inspirational Moment

Aitana and Puig Campana summits had extended excellent views and were great walks.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Jose was competent, hard working, friendly and funny.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Great destination for winter sun in the mountains within easy traveling distance of the UK.

An amazing experience

This was one of the toughest challenges I have put my body through but was so worth it. I had an amazing time and the trip was so well organised. I am in love with Peru now and already thinking about when I can go back.

Most Inspirational Moment

It was incredible to make it to the top of dead woman's pass. It was a tough day but it was an amazing sense of achievement when we were at the top looking down. And of course the first view of Machu Picchu from the Sun Gate is breath taking and made it all worth while.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Ollie was so knowledgeable and really made the trip special. I think the whole group learnt a lot and he bought the culture and history to life for us. He was able to answer all of our questions and he is clearly passionate about what he does. He was also patient when we were physically struggling and needed to rest a lot, and was full of good advice.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Make sure that you acclimatise as much as possible in Cusco and also make sure that you have decent equipment as you will be relying on it for the days you are hiking. Learn a few Spanish phrases so you can at least introduce yourself to the porters, I had to rely on others in the group and the group leader.

Inca Trail - Exodus rating: Excellent!

I couldn’t praise the Exodus team more highly for helping to provide me with one of the holidays of a lifetime!

Most Inspirational Moment

Entering the Sun Gate and seeing the City of Machu Picchu below me for the first, with the stunning mountain backdrop. The photos simply don't do justice to the real thing.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Holger ('Ollie') was absolutely top rate. He was patient, kind and considerate as well as exceptionally well informed, not just about Inca, and pre-Inca, history but also about the wonderful flora and fauna that we encountered along the Trail.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for very cold nights in your tent (in December). Whilst at times beautifully warm and sunny during the day, the temperature got to 5 or 6 degrees at night so wearing a couple of layers of clothes, plus a liner inside my sleeping bag, kept me snug and warm. For the fair-skinned, wear a hat with a suitably wide brim as the sun could be quite fierce at times during the day.
