Nothing can describe the majesty of the greatest of all canyons, the Grand Canyon. Its size is incomprehensible to those peering into the gorge from the top. Light plays with forms and colours as the sun moves across the sky and offers an ever-changing panorama. Some of the rock layers exposed in this 16km-wide and 1500m-deep canyon are over 1.7 billion years old.

Our Grand Canyon tours at sunrise are extra special: as the sun appears over the mountains, its rays start filtering into the canyon, causing an explosion of colour and turning the rocks shades of red, orange and bronze. It’s a brilliant way to experience this stupendous natural wonder – and if you’re lucky, you might spot Californian condors soaring overhead. There are fanstastic walks hereabouts, and Exodus offers an optional helicopter ride over the canyon on all our Grand Canyon holidays.

Hiking in the Grand Canyon

You will have a choice of trails for all fitness levels, ensuring you have the opportunity to explore as much as possible. Both of the canyon’s rims holdbreath-taking views of the inner canyon, and it’s even possible to hike the Bright Angel Trail to some 4000 feet below.

Plateau Point Trail is one of the Grand Canyon’s most scenic routes and if you’re equipped with a day-pack and your trusty walking boots then you’re in for a real gem to remember. Plateau Point Trail can be accessed via the wonderfully named Indian Garden, along the Bright Angel Trail, and will take you to some 1300 feet above the gushing waters of the Colorado River. This is an incredible chance to sit and stare at some of the greatest scenery on earth and a fantastic photo opportunity.

First time using Exodus which we found to be a great experience from start to finish, with the online presentations during covid giving us confidence in the company and were also extremely inspirational.
Our meetup for the briefing at the start of the trip gave us the opportunity to get to know our fellow travelers and cement the bonding of the group.

5 National Parks, each with something different to offer, but all share magnificent natural beauty. Our leader Jeff was also outstanding and his knowledge of not only each park, but the US in general and it’s nature and history added to the whole experience. Jeff was able to get us away from the crowds (walk more than half a mile from car parks and suddenly you feel you have escaped the crowds and your experience changes for the better). Going in early September was perfect as it was glorious weather. We enjoyed beautiful sunrises and sunsets, both easy walks and more challenging walks and a memorable barbecue under the stars, with our Navajo guide, in the less visited areas of Monument Valley with its glorious red rocks and silence as you’re far away from people and traffic. Returning to the brashness and noise of Las Vegas at the end of the trip to fly home was a shock to the senses and made you appreciate the sense of escape you have on the National Park treks even more!
