ATLAS PANORAMA

The scenery was wonderful, the weather perfect and the company good. A very enjoyable holiday, I came back feeling fit and healthy!

Most Inspirational Moment

There was not any particular moment as every day was different. Marrakech was colourful noisey and fun, the walks were great

Thoughts on Group Leader

He was quiet reiable and set a sensible walking pace that meant everyone was able to do all the walks.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go for it!

Suggestions

don't forget to check out the night sky but wear warm clothes!

TRAILS OF NEW ZEALAND

visiting new zealand is like visiting a child. the land itself is still developing. its fresh and exciting. you get the feeling that its looking forward to its future. its not jaded like europe. it has an unique history – no major battles have been fought there – the maoris and white settlers have lived for the most part in harmony – there's no sense of anomisity. Its very dramatic but also peaceful and inspirational. anything and everything is possible

Most Inspirational Moment

for me the most inspirational moments of my trip were very personal. i have a fear of being trapped underground and also having had a one and only disastorous experience at kayaking i wasnt looking forward to either of these parts of the trip.  however i was everyone was very supportive and the activites were carried out with complete safety.  i really enjoyed both going through the caves and kayaking through the sound.

Thoughts on Group Leader

I didnt feel the group leaders were as involved in with the group as other group leaders have been on previous holidays. on this holiday the group leaders tended to take you somewhere and then wait til you had done the activity. I didnt feel that they joined in and they seemed a bit distant from the group. apart from the first night they didnt join the group for evening meals even in places where there was only one or two resturants.

Advice for Potential Travellers

be prepared for all types of weather and dont forgot insect repellant. you will hike to and see some amazing places.

Suggestions

having been forced by the group leaders to finish my holiday with the group earlier than planned because the earthquake in christchurch meant the group leaders couldnt get me to the airport in time for my flight i didnt feel there was any support for me. I was left in queenstown on my own where i had to sort out my own accommodation and transport to christchurch.  i missed out on two days with the group - two days of activities and two days of companionship - the whole reason why i book on these holidays - so that im travelling with others and not on my own. very disappointing end to an otherwise amazing holiday.

I thank Ms Beard for her review and am glad she had such an inspirational trip. In regards to the involvement of the leaders on the trip I would like to confirm that out of the 19 activities included on this itinerary the leaders took part in 17; only 2 were missed for different logistical reasons. When it came to meals the leaders did eat most of these with sub sections of the group; this was a full trip of 16 passengers and therefore the group would usually split for meals and go to various restaurants.

We are sorry if Ms Beard felt she was forced to leave the trip or that not enough support was provided. After the earthquake in Christchurch the itinerary for this trip had to be modified as staying in central Christchurch was no longer an option. We have carried out a full review of how this trip was managed and are confident, that under very difficult circumstances, our local operator and leader did all that they could to assist passengers in their onward travel arrangements. After discussing their options with the leader, five (land only) passengers missed the last few days of the trip in order that they could continue with their individual travel arrangements. We are very sorry if any passenger felt abandoned, this would certainly never be our intention.

CYCLE NICARAGUA, COSTA RICA AND PANAMA

After an extremely long and tiring flight from the UK, we arrived at Managua Airport and was greeted with a beer….at that point I knew this holiday was going to be great!! No rest for the wicked as we had a fairly early start the following day, all of the bikes were prepared in advance which made things really easy for the group. The riding is tough…I dont care what other people have put…Lance Armstrong would have struggled with the heat/ headwinds and terrain in certain parts!! An inspiring trip, which not only allows you to see some wonderful countries, but also to meet some fantastic people in the group you travel with. A very diverse bunch all with a good story to tell over the odd "panama/ balboa…or for the weak hearted Atlas" beers. Watch out for the "electric blue lemonade" cocktail….there isnt any lemonade in it!!

Most Inspirational Moment

So many...the scenery in parts is stunning...not just because me and my mate Dave were there! The volcanos in Arenal and Otemepe have to be seen to be believe, the lagoon (watch out for the fish...they bite! joking!) The sunset in san juan del sur, the food......the volcanic springs, the downhill to panama (we clocked 50 mph!) too many "highlights" to mention....explore and see it for yourself......you wont regret it.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Rob was cool....he even got the English sarcastic sense of humour by the beginning of week 2! He got involved with all the group, and even got on the Dance floor in the night club in Bocos del Torro! Rob and his team were very good.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Have a reasonable level of fitness before you go.......you will reap the rewards if you do!

Suggestions

An excellent trip all told, 3 very very good countries, all for different reasons.....An excellent group of people that travelled.....and book a few extra days off work when you get home...the jet lags not good at 10.30 am UK time!!

KILIMANJARO CLIMB - LEMOSHO ROUTE

Amazing! Only just got back but already missing mountain life. Would 100% reccomend to anyone who is thinking of climbing Kilimanjaro. Prepare for it to be tough but it certainly is doable if you really want to make it.

Most Inspirational Moment

It has to be getting to Stella Point. While getting to Uhuru was amazing, the effort it took to get to Stella Point was unbelievable. I kept saying I wanted to give up and turn back but everytime the guides would pick me up and keep me going. The guides, porters and the team are definately the most inspirational people I've ever met. They work so hard and there is no way I would have got to the top without them. The feeling of achievement afterwards is brilliant! Also, the first two days walking in the forest are beautiful. If anyone is struggling to choose which route to do I would reccomend Lemosho because of this.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Cannot rate The African Walking Company highly enough. Matthew, our group leader, was fantastic, as were all the assistant guides/porters.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Book your own flights! Wish I was able to have longer in Arusha but unfortunately Exodus had booked our flights so that we left pretty early the following day and spent the whole time (8 hours!) in Nairobi airport. Wear suncream and bring aftersun. Was expecting it to be cold all the time and had no idea how hot it was going be until my face looked like a lobster.Girls- bring your UGG boots for the evening. Godsend! While you don't have to be superfit, I do think training before helped. Especially the first few days when the hills were pretty steep. Using poles was a good idea too.Take lots of photos (even at the top when your hands are freezing and you don't feel like it). Such an amazing experience, you'll be looking over them repeatedly once you get back!Bring old sleeping bags, mats, clothes, boots etc for the porters. They do such an incredable job and you'll want to give back as much as you can.

Suggestions

If your even debating whether or not to book this trip. DO IT! Has to be the best experience of my entire life.

CYCLE NICARAGUA, COSTA RICA AND PANAMA

I had a BRILLIANT holiday that had everything in it – hot sunshine, beautiful volcanos, amazing sunsets, tropical rain forests, lakes, rivers, Pacific & Caribbean beaches, remote villages, colourful colonial towns, wildlife, nightlife, great people and of course lots of cycling. A wonderful way of seeing three Central American countries if you can only go away for two weeks.

Most Inspirational Moment

Beautiful sunsets at the beachs of San Juan del Sur and Ometepe Island on Lake Nicaragua.Cycling around Lake Arenal in Costa Rican highlands. Challenged by hills & rain but the some of the best views of the trip.Bocas del Toro - day off cycling meant time for surfing, snorkling & dancing.Great view on 12m downhill ride in Panama.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Rob was a great leader always listening to our wishes and accommodating them whenever possible. Thanks to him and his team we had a very hassle free holiday (restaurants, hotels, border crossings, currencies etc. all sorted out for us).Rob was a great cyclist too - I personally enjoyed the challenge of trying to keep up with his cycling pace whenever he was leading the rides.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Don't be put off by the mileage or the hills. The trip is very well organised and caters for all cycling abilities from the potential Lance Armstrongs to the casual Sunday cyclists. There is always to option to take it slowly or hop on a bus or challenge yourself by trying to keep up with one of the guides. But it goes without saying that the fitter you are, the easier you'll find it. So training before is worth it.

Suggestions

Go for it! You'll have a great time!

ANTARCTIC EXPLORER

Having drooled over numerous glorious pictures of Antarctica, I had long dreamed of experiencing it for myself. Antarctica over-delivered on my extremely high expectations with mind-blowing scenery, plentiful wildlife and ever-changing weather. Travelling on the Sea Spirit was an absolute pleasure; the on board staff were brilliant without exception and did everything they could to make sure we were comfortable and entertained. I can now only sit back in wonder at my own photographs knowing that I am now a participant and no longer merely a distant spectator.

Most Inspirational Moment

There were so many moments. The friendly gentoo penguin chicks who pecked at our legs and anything else they could reach on Aitcho Island. The breaching humpback whales who chose to somersault in front of a huge glacier not far from the ship. The enourmous tabular icebergs which floated serenely past the ship. The stunning view from the top of the hill above Neko Harbour and the thrilling toboggan back down to the bottom. Our evening Zodiac cruise around the icebergs dotted with several species of seal. The slideshow at the end; it was amazing to look back at all the things we had seen and done in such a short space of time.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Cheli could not have done more to ensure that our Polar expedition ran smoothly. She enthused, organised and entertained in equal measure and used her Kiwi sense of humour liberally. She is obviously a very competent leader and it was a pleasure to get to know her.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you are into photography, a polarising filter is a good idea. Don't bother taking walking boots - you won't use them. The wellington boots supplied are all you need on shore and are easier to clean than walking boots (compulsory to avoid bio-contamination between sites). The Sea Spirit is a posh ship but there is absolutely no need to dress up on board; the trip is still first and foremost a polar expedition. You may like to take something a bit smarter to wear at the captain's dinner but this isn't compulsory. Make sure you bring waterproof trousers; these are compulsory if you want to go ashore. Vegetarians are well catered for on board. Binoculars are supplied in the cabins but it is probably best to bring your own as they are not top quality.

Suggestions

If you are in any way interested in wildlife and wilderness, you cannot possibly be disappointed by Antarctica. Do the longest trip you can manage; you will not want to come home!

CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING: DOBBIACO

The hoilday was centred at an excellent family run hotel.  The rooms were comfortable, the food outstanding and the service immediate and helpful.  The group was a pleasure to spend time with.

Most Inspirational Moment

Skiing down to Cortina,  descending the demanding 6.2km military road, enjoying hot chocolate and cakes in the afternoon.  Could not isolate the top moment from so many highs !

Thoughts on Group Leader

David, the leader managed to combine an excellent sense of humour with a clear, motiviating style of instruction.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Don't forget to get fit - for the skiing and luscious tyrolean cakes !

Suggestions

Already wondering where to go for next year's skiing adventure !

SNOWSHOEING IN THE DOLOMITES

Great trip – scenery, snow, weather,  hotel, food, people in group, leader were all fantastic.

Most Inspirational Moment

Coming out through the trees to a 360 degree view of mountains, with the sun shining out from a clear blue sky.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Karl was great.  Very knowledgeable about the area, helpful and friendly with a good sense of humour!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Wear layers.  It can get very warm as you are heading upwards in the sun, but the wind at the top can be extremely cold.

KERALA & TROPICAL INDIA

A great trip with a huge variety of experiences and scenery. I found the cycling challenging but achievable, and our two guides, Peter and Shibu, were excellent hosts.

Most Inspirational Moment

Getting to the top of Ooty!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Peter did a good job of looking after everyone and our bicycles!A highlight was when he took us on an impromptu trip to a festival near Guruvayoor where we saw a procession of 25 elephants decked out in gold splendour.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The quality of the bicycles provided is fantastic so there is no need to take your own. Take plenty of antiseptic hand gel and wet wipes in small containers so that you can carry them with you all day. Have a massage at the Cochin Ayurveda Centre, located in the Hotel Fort House - it was the best massage I have ever had.

CLASSIC VIETNAM & ANGKOR

An excellant trip which I would recommend to others.

Most Inspirational Moment

Really enjoyed the boat trip on Halong Bay and the cookery lesson.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Amazing. A top class leader. It was our 25th Wedding Anniversary when we were away and he made it a special event.

Advice for Potential Travellers

It can be cold in the North so go prepared.

Suggestions

It would be good if a cycling half day in Hoi An could be included. We did it alone and really enjoyed it. A local guide would have been well worth it.
