A comprehensive taster of a beautiful part of Italy

This trip really packs in a lot into a week, giving you a taster of the best locations in and around Naples and the Amalfi Coast. There is not much scope for relaxation or quiet time, but you do get to visit a wide range of places. The trip is described as “leisurely” but we found The Walk of the Gods hard going and it took its toll on our joints. The ascent to the crater of Vesuvius is not easy either: steep and heavy underfoot. It is a full-on itinerary and we were glad of our decision to extend the trip by a week to relax at the hotel.

Most Inspirational Moment

Our brief time in Ravello - curtailed by local road closures, which meant we had to take a wide detour to get there. You can lose yourself in the shade and quiet of the Villa Cimbrone, or gaze out from the viewing terraces of the Villa Rufolo, looking down on the coastline far below and following it as it fades into the distance. We also found our whistle-stop tour of Naples hugely enjoyable, with a surreal meal to remember at Nennella's in the Spanish Quarter. It was almost like finding yourself in a Fellini film.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Edouardo Palermo was an excellent leader, with a comprehensive knowledge of the region. He had to deal with a number of logistical difficulties - the mininbus broke down on the first day, and the road closures made the itinerary hard to follow - but he was able to fix things quickly and efficiently and keep everything on track. He was always attentive to the needs and wishes of the group. We did well to heed his advice on Capri, where he arranged for private taxis for the group, thus avoiding lengthy waits for the bus or taxi. Edourado even made sure we were looked after throughout our holiday extension, and on one day he drove us to Ravello and picked us up from Amalfi in his private car - a favour for which he refused to be paid.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Make sure you have sturdy walking boots for the Walk of the Gods and the ascent of Vesuvius. I would suggest you also make use of the walking poles available at the Hotel Due Torri for the Walk of the Gods.

Prague to Budapest bicycle ride

Great fun! As a solo traveler, I was particularly gratified to find myself in a very compatible group. I’d do it again.

Most Inspirational Moment

The ride through the "Canada" national park in the Czech Republic.

Thoughts on Group Leader

BOTH leaders were wonderful: Jan and Donna. They were knowledgeable and informative and flexible, and they possessed a good sense of humor.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Although the Exodus agent told me that I could bring my own bike, it's a very good thing that I decided not to do so. My road bike would've be completely unsuitable for some of the surfaces we rode on. The rental hybrid was exactly what I needed. I'm glad, though, that I brought my own saddle.

Viv

Loved the trip from beginning to end despite the rain ,the mud splattering and the gruelling ascents! Did not expect the food to be so exceptionally good and so cheap (as was the wine and beer), everything fresh and wholesome, sort of stuff I could live on forever.

Most Inspirational Moment

It was all fab, but especially enjoyed the final day's ascent to over 1000m (probably because I felt so much fitter and the sun was shining )

Thoughts on Group Leader

Armand was quite superb, could not do enough to please us, every detail was looked after and he was hugely informative and passionate about his country.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Just go before Albania gets on the map and becomes another mass tourist destination.

Amazing trip - cycling, sights, sea and sand!

Jordan is a fantastic country with so much to offer – and travelling by bike is definately the best way to see the landscape and people at their best. Great cycing (quite alot of up, but some pretty awesome downs to go with it!), floating in the Dead Sea, snorkelling in the Red Sea, ancient sights (Petra is to be seen to be believed), camping in the desert, camels…

Most Inspirational Moment

It was all pretty amazing, but a particular highlight has to be the day cycing (mostly down) to the Dead Sea, then floating in the waters - you literally just float and there is nothing you can do about it! An experience not to be missed...

Thoughts on Group Leader

Salah was a good group leading - looking out for our comfort and safety at all times and exremely knowledgeable about the country, the people and the history.

Advice for Potential Travellers

This is a great trip, with alot of variety and activities. Whilst the cycling was fab, some of the days spent on the were quite short - so be prepared to feel like you want more (because its great!) if you are an experienced and fairly fit cyclist, but still well worth doing, so don't let this put you off!

Highlights of Morocco

This was a great way to see a lot of country in a small amount of time. There was a lot of “on the bus, off the bus” and a couple of very long days on the bus. There was only a few of days where there was any physical activity. We also found that we were taken to see “how things were made” but it ended up being a buying trip.

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing the sun rise and set in the Sahara, and riding a camel.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader tended to be overprotective. I feel he even scared people out of doing things they would have enjoyed. He was knowledgeable but he tended to repeat himself so much that after a while I tended to ignore him.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for long days in the bus.

Cycling Rajasthan

Nice way to discover Indi by bike.

Most Inspirational Moment

Cycling through rural India and the Taj Mahal

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent. Good knowledge, social and funny.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be aware of the traffic in cities.

Walking the Amalfi Coast

I have just returned from Walking the Amalfi Coast. This was a really great holiday and I would really recommend it. The walks are all lovely, although they are not too long, they seem more difficult owing to the steepness of the terrain. You see beautiful scenery around the Amalfi Coast and also on the walk to Ravello. It is nice to see around Bomerano the village where the holiday is based, where they grow all kinds of vegetables and fruit and to see where cheese is made.

The hotel is a good standard and the staff really friendly and helpful. The food was really nice there.

I enjoyed getting to know all members of the group. We had a lot of fun and laughter together.

Most Inspirational Moment

Everything!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Christine was a very enthusiastic group leader, she was very experienced and knowledgeable having led this trip over the last 9 years. She is friendly and approachable. It was clear from the greetings she received from staff in the hotel and people from Bomerano where the trip is based that she is very well thought about. This makes it easier for her to arrangements for the groups benefit. Christine worked hard to make arrangements for the benefit of the group eg transport for our free day.

Advice for Potential Travellers

As in many of the reviews regarding this trip I would recommend bring a walking pole/poles, these are particularly needed owing to the steep steps, that are present in the majority of the walks. I would also recommend bringing waterproof walking trousers in case of rain. Luckily I didn't need these on the days that we walked, however I didn't see places where you could buy walking gear in this part of Italy.

walking the great wall, china

Fantastic, group tour, guide (jerry was such a nice guy and nothing was to much trouble for him) , food, weather and the organising from start to finish was superb.

Most Inspirational Moment

seeing the wall fro the first time and climbing the crouching tiger

Thoughts on Group Leader

Jerry was fantastic from when we meet till we left nothing was to much trouble and he was always on hand to help.

Advice for Potential Travellers

pack a warm jacket, fleece as at night it did get cold.

Walking the Picosde Europa

Really excellent walking in a surprisingly quiet area of Spain, good food, very good guide and great company.

Most Inspirational Moment

Reaching the village of Tresvisio after climbing up the zigzag track for three hours. The view of Neveron de Urriellu from Cabesa La Mesa

Thoughts on Group Leader

Very knowledgeable, keen to ensure everyone got the most out of the trip and good fun

Advice for Potential Travellers

A good level of fitness is required to fully appreciate this level 5 week

Walking in Provence October 2015

I would highly recommend this holiday to anyone who likes walking with a wide variation of different types of terrain and views. All packed into a week. The hotel Des Alpes was conveniently located at the end of main street, so very convenient to walk into town for shopping, ice creams and we ate out in a different restaurant each evening.

Most Inspirational Moment

Our guide, Yves was extremely competent and knew the area, the flora and fauna and al lot of local history and customs. Our group would have followed him anywhere.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Yves was an inspirational group leader. He was great fun to be with and hos knowledge appeared limitless. If you are thinking of taking ths tour in 2016 then check that Yves is your group leader and you will not be disappointed.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Exodus provided excellent advice of what to pack. Just follow that advice. A good pair of walking shoes are essential for comfort on the rocky trails and walking pole(s) were a great help on the steep downward slopes.
