Amalfi Coast: Pompeii and Pizza

Trying to entertain an energetic 11 year old and their mum is no easy task but this holiday did exactly that! A perfect blend of culture and activity along with an experienced tour guide on what level of information to give, what pace to go and keep the interest of all ages.

We loved it! Molto Beno

Most Inspirational Moment

Climbing Mount Vesuvius

Thoughts on Group Leader

Eduardo was just great. You can tell he is very experienced and really made the holiday!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Its always a little cooler on climbing the mountains so make sure that you pack a jumper/coat for that day!

Land of the Tiger -India

This was an amazing trip! Lots of Tigers (including cubs), lovely fresh food, a great group leader and of course sunshine!

Most Inspirational Moment

The Tigers were by far the best part for me. They are beautiful and we were so lucky to see 18 including some cubs too. The rest of the wildlife was also really good from leopard, sloth bear, Peacocks, monkeys dear, and countless birds! For me the countryside was lovely.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Krishna was our group leader and he definately made sure our holiday was a great one. He was very knowledgable and couldn't do enough for us. He arranged extra game drives, joined in with the group and gave us plenty of information along the way! Excellent guide.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Although this is stated as a leisurely holiday, the early starts make it a long day but well worth it!

Magical Trip

A one-of-a-kind trip, in the very capable hands of first rate guide.

Most Inspirational Moment

Sand Storms in Wadi Rum and night trip to Petra were unforgettable.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Wael was a credit to your company, and was particularly good adapting the pace and content of the tour to fit the needs of two families with 7 year olds.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Don't be affraid to step out of the air conditioned buses and see some of the real Jordan. You will lose out if you just eat in hotels and don't sample charms of downtown Amman. Guide was very helpful in getting us off the beaten track.

Cycling Indochina

Fascinating cycle across three countries. All of them different. Very thought provoking. Showed how privileged we are to live in Western European democracies with checks and balances on the despotic use of power. Also showed the importance of free education and health services in Europe. One informed local told us “you get sick, you go to hospital, you can’t pay, you die in the corridor!”

Most Inspirational Moment

The whole trip was very good. Possibly the most noteworthy moments were not so much inspirational as sobering. Visits to the killing fields and detention centre left most of us musing on man's inhumanity to man.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Brilliant. Helpful, well-informed, very sociable. Managed the logistics of crossing three countries and having to change bikes and guides at every frontier very well. Also a great guitar player.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for the heat and humidity, high-fiving children in rural areas and a very educational experience.

A fantastic insight into a beautiful country!

Bhutan is probably the most beautiful country I have visited. It has such a rick landscape and culture, which is mostly unspoiled by tourism.

Most Inspirational Moment

Reaching Tiger's Nest Monastery

Thoughts on Group Leader

Sangay was brilliant and a true advocate for his country - his passion for Bhutan (and Bhutanese food!) was very clear!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take your hiking boots for the treks.

This tour covers a lot of ground! Extreme learning opportunity

This tour covers so much ground in 2 weeks. I think the greatest takeaway I have from this trip is the huge diversity of geography of Peru. From desert to highlands and mountains to jungle (which we didn’t see on this tour). No one can go on this tour and say that they didn’t see a lot of Peru. This tour is exactly as it is described and does cover a lot of ground. Personally, I did find the long bus rides more than I bargained for. However the scenery was spectacular and one wouldn’t see all of this diversity any other way. I did find myself wishing that there was more opportunity for physical activity – but this was not part of the description of the tour. All in all, I personally would have traded off some of the days of travelling for hiking some of the trails around Peru.

Most Inspirational Moment

The homestay on Amantani island was particularly inspiring. While these people have so much less than we have in our material lives, their lives seemed to be very rich. The stay made me appreciate more what I have in my own life. I really enjoyed the different foods that we were able to enjoy as we travelled around Peru -- from the simple to the more exotic. Eating and cooking is an important reason that I enjoy travelling.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Alex was a great leader. His interest and passion for Peru was evident daily in his talks about many different subjects and it was infectious. He was good at managing a diverse group of people -- from those of us taking the tours to all the help he received along the way. He genuinely seemed to enjoy his job -- even the dumb questions that we asked on a regular basis.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for long days on the bus in order to cover a lot of ground with very early starts in the mornings. The payoff is spectacular scenery that one wouldn't see by simply taking internal flights around Peru

Sierra Nevada and Granada

A fantastic week of varied walking in sunny Andalucìa! Great hosts, great tour leader, great fellow company. I would highly recommend this trip!

Most Inspirational Moment

For me there were many moments! The wall to wall sunshine and temperatures already in the mid-20s in April certainly helped! The variety of stunning scenery and walking terrain throughout the trip was excellent and each day's walking seemed to get better and better. Visiting Granada was a great conclusion to the trip and La Alhambra in particular is not to be missed!

Thoughts on Group Leader

George was warm, friendly, knowledgeable and passionate about the local area. It was a real pleasure finding out more from him about the way of life in Las Alpujarras, its nature and regional/national history.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you are planning to visit La Alhambra in Granada, make sure you book tickets as soon as you book the holiday as they go quickly. Try to get an early morning or evening slot to avoid the tourist hordes in the middle of the day. Although the days were very warm-hot in mid-April, you will need some warmish layers to wear in the hotel on a night as it can get chilly.

Amalfi

A good trip all round. The welcome at the Naples air port was just wonderful, it set the right atmosphere for the whole holiday, very important. The week was well managed, and exceeded my expectations through out.Hotel Due Torri,in Bomerano, was excellent, Albert Callewaert superb, what more can i say. Well done, will most certainly use Exodus again.

Most Inspirational Moment

Walking Around Vesuvius.

Thoughts on Group Leader

First class man,Albert was the best.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Avoid BA.

Contrasting regions of Costa Rica

This was a really good and varied introduction to the country, taking in both the Caribbean and Pacific coasts, and a number of types of forest in between. We saw a wide variety of birdlife, flora and fauna and enjoyed the different types of accommodation, all of which were very good or excellent in different ways. The food was generally first class and served with a smile by friendly and helpful staff. The visits to a village school and a local cheesemaker on the final day were both interesting and enjoyable, in spite of our misgivings beforehand about this sort of activity when we saw it in the notes.

Most Inspirational Moment

Even though we aren't avid bird watchers, the sight of six scarlet macaws circling, playing and landing in the trees as we watched them from the roadside (spotted by our driver en route), and the early morning trip from the excellent hotel at Savegre during which we saw beautiful quetzals were two of the best moments of the trip. Seeing a crab-eating racoon crunching its way through a large dead crab outside our cabin at Tortuguero was also a highlight.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Katia was an enthusiastic, informative and helpful guide. She was happy to tackle any topic thrown at her. She and the driver, Juan Jose, formed an excellent team and it was nice that they joined us for meals etc. She also organised and led, with Juan Jose when the bus was needed, a number of extra walks and trips over and above the activities contained in the trip notes. Nothing was too much trouble for her, to the extent that, after the tour was over and we stayed longer on our own in San Jose, she contacted us to tell us that our plans for a visit needed amendment because of a change in the timing of a local festival.

Advice for Potential Travellers

We couldn't understand why dollars are recommended. Everything is priced in colones, apart from the trips in Exodus' trip notes, and if you use dollars in shops and restaurants, you not only get your change in colones but you also tend to get a poor exchange rate. We had no trouble at all in using colones. We travelled with BA direct to San Jose, so had an extra day before and a couple afterwards on our own in the capital to fit in with flight times. It was good to have time to acclimatise before the trip proper started and to wind down and do some exploring at both ends of the trip. We felt we saw a bit more of Costan Rican life as a result than we otherwise would have. Our criticism of the trip would have been that you see very little of the towns and villages of the country. The Presidente Hotel in San Jose is excellently situated, well appointed and with a good breakfast and staff and there is a great little bar in the street just to the left of the hotel where you can unwind with a beer among the locals.

Full of interest

Walking the Amalfi coast was great exercise, it was nice being outside enjoying the countryside learning about the history and culture of the region at the same time.

Most Inspirational Moment

Learning about Pompeii and how the citizens lived in days gone by made me realise just how much of modern day practises were actually in place centuries ago. Pompeii is a huge site full of interest (unfortunately also full of tourists!)

Thoughts on Group Leader

We had a great group leader in Satva, charming, considerate and full of interesting anecdotes.

Advice for Potential Travellers

We were advised that walking poles would be useful but I didn't find I needed any. If you do regular exercise running or cycling and are in general good health this holiday will be very comfortable for you. Watch the steps though, they are all around the region and going down can be a strain on your knees. I went to Capri and walked up the Phonecian steps which took 30mins. There was plenty of time to see all the sites before heading back to the boat.
