Amazing Experience

Well organised and planned trip. Group size was only 7 but the smaller group was better. Scenery and sights were fantastic. Our guide had very good knowledge and took us to great restaurants.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Alvaro Jimenez, was brilliant. He was extremely knowledgeable, passionate about travelling, good fun and looked after us so well.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Switch off from everything & enjoy every moment. Listen to the advice your guide gives you on what to wear to work with the weather conditions. Always good to have a second pair of shoes or boots. Blister prevention is key.

Enchanting Puglia

A most charming part of Italy, well worth exploring by bike. Passing through picturesque villages and ancient towns laden with history, every place has something unique to offer. Architecturally impressive churches, cathedrals and basilicas dominate the landscape. The cuisine is delicious and there is plenty of culinary variety to satisfy any preference. The accommodation was good and very good throughout the trip.

Most Inspirational Moment

Most inspiring places were Matera, Alberobello and Lecce.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our tour leader Claudio was attentive, organised and looked after the group well. At the end of each day, he offered suggestions for places to have dinner at and a summary of the following day.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Having been on several 'medium' rated cycling holidays with Exodus, i would say this trip is on the lower end of 'medium'.

Suggestions

Perhaps earlier starts, i.e. 8-8.30 rather than 9-9.30, would be better suited to allow for additional time to explore the towns in the evenings.

Highlights and Lowlights

I unfortunately had to join this trip last minute due to my previous trip being cancelled with a different operator. It was the best available alternative but meant I missed out of Mount Fuji which I really wanted to see. I ended up leaving the group at Kyoto to include a trip to Fuji san and caught up with them in Osaka.

Most Inspirational Moment

Nikko was beautiful .

Thoughts on Group Leader

Hitomi was amazing. She couldn’t have been more helpful.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Don’t be scared to do your own thing. Japan was much easier to navigate than I thought and Hitomi was so helpful in answering any questions I had.

Suggestions

Hopefully you have a better group dynamic than we did but this is not Exodus or Hitomi’s fault. It was down to one individual.

Wonderful biking adventure on the Amalfi Coast

8 bikers and our wonderful guide Sara enjoyed a beautiful week visiting the Cilento National Park and Amalfi Coast.

Most Inspirational Moment

All our riders completed the five days of biking covering more than 240 km of undulating terrain and with vertical climbs totaling over 4000 meters. None of us needed to use the support van at any time during the rides.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Sara was a very knowledgeable and experienced guide who provided us with much local knowledge and insights. She made sure that all riders were doing well and staying safe along the challenging route. Sara also provided us with optional walking tours in addition to the standard itinerary. Sara showed genuine enthusiasm for her work.

Advice for Potential Travellers

As others have stated, it would be very helpful to try to prepare on some hills. The electric bike may be a consideration to take a little of the edge off the longer climbs.

Suggestions

My fellow travelers were a great group to travel with and got along very well with each other and were very supportive. I cannot thank them enough for their comradery.

Amazing 3 week camping trip.

We had a wonderful adventure visiting four countries in Africa with our excellent guides Petrus and Ende. They worked tirelessly to ensure we were safe, well fed, comfortable and happy. Our group consisted of 8 of us plus the 2 leaders which made for a very comfortable time on the Bruck as we had lots of space. Our tents were new and very easy and quick to put up and take down. The campsites were all different and it’s hard to choose a favourite as they all had something special about them, they all had swimming pools and free WiFi (very slow and usually only at reception or bar). The showers and washroom facilities were sometimes excellent and sometimes basic but always adequate. The meals were varied with plenty of vegetables and salad and huge portions. This is an amazingly diverse itinerary, so well thought out, and you get to see the a range of different landscapes and incredible wildlife.

Most Inspirational Moment

Each day had its own highlight but the stand out moments were: seeing the leopard stalk its prey, the rhinos at Etosha waterhole at night, being up close to the hippos on the Mokuru boat trip, Victoria Falls, climbing Dune 45 for the sunrise, the stunning African night sky and the clarity of the constellations, the White Lady paintings at Brandberg, our first sight of Table Mountain, the penguins at Boulder Beach, walking from Cape Point to the Cape of Good Hope.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Petrus was our leader but really Petrus and Ende worked as a 2-man team and both were excellent. They clearly had a good relationship and were 2 parts of a whole. Ende had a great sense of humour and infectious laugh but was serious regarding safety and daily briefing. Petrus and Ende had a wealth of knowlege about the wildlife and the countries and took every opportunity to share. They were working every moment of their waking day and their key focus was our safety and enjoyment.

Advice for Potential Travellers

1)Do the optional excursions particularly the safari drive in Chobe ($70) on the afternoon you arrive and in Etosha ($60) on the day you move from one camp to another in the National Park, you wouldn't want to miss out on the wildlife sightings. 2) The sunset cruise in Victoria Falls is a must and includes unlimited alcoholic and soft drinks and hot snacks, great value for money. 3) The wine tasting at Highlanders, just before dinner, is a great way to end the last night of camping before heading off to Cape Town. 4) Binoculars are essential. 5)The Bruck has wildlife and bird books but your own copy of WILDLIFE OF OKAVANGO by Duncan Butchart would add to your enjoyment. 6) It was quite cool overnight in some camps so ensure you take some thermals to sleep in if you feel the cold rather than a thicker sleeping bag. 7) If you're going to wash any items the sinks do not usually have plugs so I used the cap of a large water bottle that I found. 8) The trip notes discuss optional tipping but the tips are expected and the amount is prescribed. It's $5 or the equivalent in local currency per person per activity lead by local guides so make sure you have lots of $5 or $10 bills. 9) Namibia accepts South African Rand so we only got SAR. Credit cards are widely accepted. 10) Go up Table Mountain the moment you see the clouds lift otherwise you might miss out on the opportunity. We went on the afternoon we arrived in Cape Town. 11) Some long Bruck journeys on gravel roads so I found listening to Audible Books really useful when I couldn't read. 12) If cocktails are your thing I'd highly recommend visiting Victoria Falls Hotel for a cocktail on the terrace with a view of the Zambezi Bridge and the mist from the falls. Cocktails were £8 with nibbles. We went in the afternoon around 15:30 and there was no need to book.

Suggestions

I think if would be really useful if you sent out an Exodus Rep to see how the trip works in reality and in order to update your trip notes which I believe are outdated. Everything in the trip notes happens but not always in the same order and some of the prices are out of date. It would be useful to include the optional Chobe afternoon safari and the Etosha transfer safari as to miss them would be to miss out, just add it to the overall cost of the trip.

Amazing holiday - poor pre-joining support

The actual holiday was amazing, but the prep support was poor.

Most Inspirational Moment

Great cycling routes & amazing scenery.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Alan Skulic was a brilliant guide - calm, supportive & always ready with a smile to lighten the moment. He was very kind & helpful to me, as the slowest member of the group, & he made the experience a pleasure rather than a competition. The driver was also excellent & very organised.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Bring your own saddle!

Suggestions

The pre-trip support was disorganised & misleading. Responsibility for my booking moved between 3 people. You actually offered me flight prices significantly higher than those on the BA website - a first from a travel agent! So I booked my own. Despite agreeing a specific meeting point to join the tour (one of 3 options you offered me) this was not confirmed - instead you sent me standard joining instructions which meant I had to phone up on the start day to confirm. 'Yes I can see you've arranged to meet at the port' said your phone support - so why couldn't you confirm that in my final joining instructions? At least say that the joining instructions apply unless you've agreed otherwise.

Beautiful Landscapes and incredible historical sites

A full on trip on the Silk Road , visiting three countries (Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan).Former Soviet countries enjoying their independence, but not quite shaking off the influence of this former ruler. The clash of Soviet and Persian culture is fascinating. Travelled through enormous unspoilt landscapes, sometimes mountainous and sometimes vast plains , once a dried up sea 200 million years ago. The iconic Persian buildings of Samarkand and Bukhara were breathtakingly beautiful . There was also great group dynamics . Loved it.

Most Inspirational Moment

There were many . Waking up in the mountains in a Yurt and seeing the sun rise. The stunning tomb of Amir Timor in Samarkand. The floodlit Madrassas and Mausoleums in Samarkand. The ancient bath house in Bukhara.

Thoughts on Group Leader

We had two. Both were extremely knowledgeable, Vitaly in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan and Dilshod in Uzbekistan. A good leader helps the trip go well and is so important. No complaints at all with these two excellent leaders

Advice for Potential Travellers

This journey is exciting and well coordinated but is full on so very much an adventure rather than a holiday to rest . Bring a power pack for your phone for the night in the Yurt and also overnight on the train. Bring warm weather and cold weather gear and good walking shoes. debit cards are widely accepted and US Dollars for changing to local currency .

Suggestions

Generally the accommodation and food was good. The train journeys (three including one overnight) were better than expected . Very modern comfortable trains. A good mixed group who got on very well together enhanced the trip .

Crystal Clear Waters & Awesome walks!

This trip was fast paced, very active and jam packed but stunningly beautiful! I am not sure what i was expecting from Crete but it wasn’t this, this was even better! We got to swim in crystal clear waters, hike the famous Samaria Gorge, as well as visit archaeological sites, it had a bit of everything.

Most Inspirational Moment

Walking through the Samaria Gorge, definitely. It really was stunning!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Enthusiastic and friendly, we visited his home town which he was very excited to show us and very passionate about, it was nice to see a snippet of his home life too!

Advice for Potential Travellers

It gets hot, with not a lot of shade on some walks, bring your hat and carry plenty of water - Oh, and also always have your swimmers handy in your bag just in case you get a chance to cool off!

I loved my visit to Jordan

I loved my visit to Jordan, I feel enriched by the opportunities offered in this itinerary. To experience some of the grandness of Petra, the timelessness of Wadi Rum and the warm hospitality from hoteliers and local families who cooked delicious food.

Most Inspirational Moment

I loved walking into Petra for the first time and sitting on a rock in Wadi Rum late afternoon with my eyes closed feeling the desert.

Thoughts on Group Leader

I feel fortunate that Amer was our group leader, he shared with us his global knowledge and love for his country with passion and a sense of fun. I value the opportunity to learn about the world from a different point of view. He guided our group with clarity, sensitivity and kindness.

Advice for Potential Travellers

GO! It is important to know it is safe and Jordan is so safe, welcoming and inspiring.

Suggestions

Pack your water shoes for any beach experience.

Hidden gem near Costa Blanca

Really enjoyed this hiking trip. Often travelling to Spain but it was the first time for me to experience Sierra de Aitana. Very close to Costa Blanca but felt secluded and peaceful. Hikes are interesting and varied; not very demanding, but i guess this is more of personal view as all depends on person’s fitness and hiking experience (also the weather could be a factor). We started our week with rainy weather but finished with plenty of sunshine. Paths vary, some have lots of scree and stones, some approaches are very rocky…this variety keeps things interesting. I found some hikes were easier in terms of approach than expected but anyway José was always on hand. Hotel is located away from everything and this provides tranquility and peaceful environment…really enjoyable moments sitting on the terrace after hike soaking up beautiful views. Great service from friendly Raquel (the owner) who prepared our tasty meals and provided us with freshly squeezed orange juice. The sandwich lunches were impressive and this comes from someone who is not a sandwich person – freshly prepared with plenty of variety – very tasty and nutritious.
The highlight – hiking in the company of Bobby (the dog).

Most Inspirational Moment

Hiking Sierra de Serrella (my favourite hike, away from crowds, varied terrain, a bit of scrambling on the top, beautiful views). I also enjoyed Puig de Campana ascent.

Thoughts on Group Leader

José Miguel was very professional, well organised, approachable, upfront about hikes challenges and always on hand.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take hydration bladder (plus water bottle), thermos (if you like hot drinks at hotel /on hikes), hiking poles and plenty of varied layers; even at the beginning of May the weather was rapidly changing from rain / cold at the start of the week to rather hot weather on the final ascent. Note that there is no nearby shop, the closest village is about 1hrs walk or you need a taxi to get there. You can buy some local products at hotel - honey, olive oil, chocolate etc.
