I had an excellent time during the Finnish Wilderness Week

I had an awesome time from start to finish. The clothing provided was excellent and protected me well against the temperatures which did sink into the minus 30s. The room was comfortable although i didn’t spend too much time in it. Food was great and filling after busy days (there is a lot of fish which I am not usually a big fan of but I loved the fish soups). Activities were well run and the instructors were patient and well skilled in cross country skiing and snowshoeing as well as various winter wilderness skills.

Most Inspirational Moment

Being outside in such a stunning location! Husky sledding was particularly memorable though as was the optional long snowshoe offered on the Saturday.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader was Henri Suopanki who was brilliant. He is a great tour leader who is a good instructor across all activities. He is patient and helpful when instructing and with any other queries. He also mixes a good cocktail! All the staff at Basecamp Oulanka were great and this is one of the best places I've ever stayed.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take a book or small board game for the evening. When I went the days started getting dark at 3pm so a lot of time was spent in front of the open fire in the main lodge. There are a couple of board games available but I'd advise bringing a little entertainment of your own.

Cycling Cuba

Great trip with inspirational leader (Alex) and very supportive mechanic (Ruben).

Most Inspirational Moment

Cycling with Ruben in the Sierra Maestra

Thoughts on Group Leader

Incredible energy, dedication to excellence and ability to explain the 'complications' of Cuba

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go

Vietnam Adventure

Plenty of variety, a trip I thoroughly enjoyed, shame our flight was delayed and we missed our connection

Most Inspirational Moment

Halong bay, Mekong delta also cycling away from the towns.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Very good leader, certainly passionate to do a good job, even rearranged new years eve a night later because we missed new years eve on the train.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Glad I had ear plugs for the noisy railway.

Another good week in Dobbiaco

Another good week in Dobbiaco. Worries about snow conditions were unnecessary. Most trails were open, although not all had cut tracks. This is one advantage of a major x-c skiing centre – they were busy making artificial snow to improve the tracks used in the marathon that was run shortly before this week, and the World Cup races that were due in a few weeks. Plenty of scope for a grade 3 group.

Most Inspirational Moment

A morning trying skate technique again. It sort of worked. Or at least we could see how it might work, if we had the balance, confidence, and thighs for it.

Thoughts on Group Leader

First rate. All admin and social aspects of the holiday were fine (even with a small group of just 5), and Ingrid is an extremely skilful skier and teacher of skiing.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The main advice is to seriously consider skiing in January rather than the peak time - February. Cafes and trails are far less busy, and it is, of course, much easier to get a single room. Then again, if too many people switch to January then I might find it difficult to get a single room.

Discover Costa Rica

An excellent overview of the wildlife of the country from the Caribbean coast to the Pacific. Led by an excellent knowledgeable guide, Antonio. Who, as well as having an excellent knowledge of the birdlife in each area visited, with a personal birdlist of more than 500 species in Costa Rica, was also willing to lead early morning bird walks and other walks through the various habitats. Two members of the group were able to identify around 200 species of bird, including the iconic Quetzal, which was seen in two different areas. Antonio was also able to identify and give information on much of the other fauna and flora seen on our travels, and explain some of the social history of Costa Rica. The jungle walks, both at day and night, gave a good overview of the diversity of species found in these amazing habitats. Accommodation was excellent, the people were friendly and our drivers, both on the bus, Mario, and on the boat, were excellent, helping us to enjoy the whole trip.

Most Inspirational Moment

Every place visited had its own benefits and sights of the amazing fauna and flora of Costa Rica.

Thoughts on Group Leader

As already described, excellent

Advice for Potential Travellers

From our experience, do not travel via the US using United Airlines. US customs were very good, efficient and human, but United Airlines were not efficient in dealing with the travel problems caused by the weather conditions in Newark

Discover Costa Rica

The whole trip was full of exciting experiences, seeing a wonderful variety of flora and fauna and visiting so many different places. The list of animals and birds we saw grew longer by the day and the almost encyclopaedic knowledge of all elements of Costa Rica that our group leader had was readily shared with us all. The itinerary was well planned, allowing us to see the different landscapes and terrains of the country, and the numerous activities available were thoroughly enjoyable. All the accommodation was of a high standard as was the transport vehicle and its driver. I would recommend this trip to anyone interested in seeing wildlife in a beautiful setting.

Most Inspirational Moment

Sitting in the hotel restaurant at the Esquinas Rain Forest Lodge, watching numerous different birds and animals feeding by the pond outside. This was closely followed by the thrill of having humming birds perching on my fingers as they fed from a feeder.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Andres was passionate in his interest and knowledge of the flora and fauna and shared this knowledge with us all. His ability to spot birds and animals, even from a moving vehicle, was amazing, giving us all the opportunity to see so much. He and our driver, Carlos, readily joined in our mealtimes and general socialising and helped the group to gel from day one. Andres was also particularly helpful to some of the group whose onward travel arrangements were severely disrupted at the last minute. Definitely the best group leader I have travelled with.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Do not worry too much about advice to take wet weather gear - we only had one rain shower in two weeks and that was over night! Do take a good torch for any night walks.

Incredible India Indeed – a wonderfully memorable holiday

This was our first visit to India so we were excited yet apprehensive in equal measures. Our holiday could not have been better and we are already looking at a return trip.

Most Inspirational Moment

All the children, immaculately turned out in their school uniforms, waving and saying ‘hi’ and ‘bye’ as we cycled by. The crazy, noisy, chaotic traffic in the bustling towns. The constantly changing scenery, through small towns and villages, initially passing by rice paddy fields, endless banana and coconut trees then through tea and rubber plantations. Dipping our back wheels in The Bay of Bengal and ten days later our front wheels in the Arabian Sea thus marking the start and end of our coast to coast adventure.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Shaker, the leader, was smiley, knowledgable and well organised. He navigated the group safely across India organising great lunchtime stops along the way and introducing us to many culinary delights.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The hot hilly days were fairy tough but nothing that the whole group couldn't handle. Our taste of Southern India has left us wanting to experience more of this incredible country and I don't hesitate in recommending this trip to any moderately fit cyclist.

Chile January 2016

We chose this holiday as it gave the opportunity to visit both the Atacama in the north and Patagonia in the south, and we certainly were’nt disappointed.

Most Inspirational Moment

Attending a Rodeo, and looking across to snow capped volcano we'd just visited.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent... Well informed and most caring

Advice for Potential Travellers

Necessarily there is quite a lot of travelling.

Highs and Lows in Sri Lanka

The holiday offers an opportunity to see a wide range of what Sri Lanka has to offer – including ancient sites (some 2,000+ years old), national parks, a wide range of wild animals and birds, temples, churches and other historic buildings, and magnificent trees and scenery.

Most Inspirational Moment

(1) Seeing 40-50 elephants (out of an estimated 3,000 in Sri Lanka) and wild peacocks roaming free in their environment. (2) Kandy's lake and botanical gardens. (3) Seeing and climbing Lion's Rock. (4) Cycle ride through countryside near Giritale. (5) Visiting the Hilltop Club in Nuwara Eliya ('Little England').

Thoughts on Group Leader

Roshan was very good! He imparted information about, and history of, Sri Lanka in easy-to-assimilate chunks. He was very sociable and easy-going and easy to get on with. Gamini and Nisha (driver and helper) deserve mention too - they were excellent.

Advice for Potential Travellers

(1) Take some just-below-the-knee shorts to ensure access to temples will not be barred. (2) It's mostly hot! So drink plenty of (bottled) water, not tap water. (3) In Nuwara Eliya, being high in the mountains, a sweater is beneficial.

Discover Sri Lanka

The holiday far exceeded my expectations in many ways. The hotels, the organisation, the variety of activities and the tour leader.

Most Inspirational Moment

Walking Adam's Peak.

Thoughts on Group Leader

I thought our group leader was excellent. Very organised, kind and with a great sense of humour.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Try not to take too much luggage.
