Karen Kaye

We are just back from two weeks in Costa Rica and have had a wonderful time travelling around the country. There were 16 of us with Gerardo as our guide and George as our driver and the group all got on well and shared a sense of humour together.
We had a very varied time travelling into the different micro climates and experiencing very cool weather and extremely humid rain forests all with interesting places to visit from bird filled rain forests to high cloud forests and volcanos. I can really recommend this trip and Gerardo was an excellent guide. As well as being a fun friendly person, he is a fluent English speaker and very knowledgeable about all sorts of things from identifying wildlife and bird spotting to discussions about politics etc. At the beginning of the week I expressed interest in the social side of the country and he wrote and presented a very informative talk on these issues that must have taken him some time to put together. That was really very appreciated and a fascinating added extra to the holiday.
He also went out of his way to locate and reconnect us with our luggage which was left in Madrid for some days having missed our 2nd flight out!
Thanks to everyone for ensuring that the trip was so good, and varied, including the school visit and visit to a home. We will definately think of further travel with Exodus in the future.

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing the monkeys and birds in the waterways around Tortoguero and walking across the suspension bridges above the tree canopy.

Thoughts on Group Leader

As above, brilliant!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Try not to lose your luggage in transit!

Amazing Patagonia

Patagonia has been on my travel “to do” list for quite some time now. I was particularly looking forward to the amazing scenery on offer – Fitzroy, Torres del Paine, Moreno Glacier, plus sampling some of the legendary steaks and wines that Argentina is famous for.

Most Inspirational Moment

I have more than one moment - the Fitzroy hike was amazing as was the Torres Del Paine hike - this is pretty strenuous, particularly the last part. All that hard work is well worth it for the views to be had. Plus, we had amazing weather on our trip, so we had clear views on both hikes.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Luciano was brilliant. His passion for this part if his country came across to us so well. He was knowledgeable in all aspects and was an excellent tour guide. His restaurant recommendations were excellent too - I have never had so much amazing food (and wine) in one trip

Advice for Potential Travellers

There are some long drives on this trips - the main one being the journey from Torres del Paine to Ushuaia. But, they are broken up with interesting stops along the way, so it never seemed that long overall. Put a couple of extra holes in your belt so you can loosen it as the trip goes on! - if you like your steak, wine and desserts, you will be very well catered for this country !

Northern Lights Iceland

This was a fantastic holiday with amazing sights (Northern Lights included!!!). Each day was filled with wonderful sights.

Most Inspirational Moment

Stepping onto the Black beach and seeing the fabulous icebergs. Bathing in the Blue Lagoon. Seeing Northern Lights.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Petur was an excellent, hardworking guide and made every effort to ensure we had a wonderful time.Nothing was too much trouble and his excellent driving skills during a bad storm ensured we did not forgo any of our itinery. He made the holiday fun and was very informative. Thank you Petur.

Patagonian Highlights

We decided on Patagonia as Sandy had been there 11 years ago and had trekked around most of the Torres Del Paine. Things had changed – the roads were all (mostly) completed and the villages and towns had expanded. The highlights had not changed and we were fortunate to have good weather throughout all the walks. The road journeys were long and dusty but an essential part of conveying the scale and size of the Patagonian Steppe. The reward of arriving at the Torres del Paine and Ushuaia erased the discomfort of the journey! Overall we were hugely impressed by the organisation and the leadership.

Most Inspirational Moment

Getting to the base of the Torres del Paine after a long, hard 4 hour + trek and the first view of the Perito Merino Glacier - the pictures do not convey its magnificence!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader, Luciano, was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. He was always very concerned about our welfare and very keen to involve us in everything 'Patagonian'. Everything he did was with a smile and nothing was too much for him. We hope to see him in England sometime.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for the long drives with plenty of water and snacks. There are interesting stops on the way and the arrival at the end of the journey is well worthwhile!

Best trip in a long time!

I think this trip exceeded expectations for me.

It was a very active week with a great selection of winter sports and the opportunity to try something different. I’ve now recommended it to a handful of people.

Most Inspirational Moment

For me, it was the dog sledding! The dogs were beautiful, friendly and very controlled and the mode of transport gave great views across the NP. A very close follow up for me, was the reindeer farm!

Thoughts on Group Leader

The group leader was fab! In fact, all the staff were. Activities were explained thoroughly and all staff were patient and had a sense of humour.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take lots of layers! It was relatively mild the week we went (31st Jan) but I still felt a little chilly so, pack as your case will allow.

Cambodia Adventure

A great itinerary encompassing the busy yet cultured capital, the relaxed feel of coastal Kampot and Kep, colonial Battambang and the sheer size of majestic Angkor Wat. Fantastic food too throughout, surpassed only by the ever-smiling, friendly locals.

Most Inspirational Moment

Visiting Angor Wat - far more extensive and varied than I'd been expecting, made all the more memorable by seeing it over two days, one by bike which was a superb way to get a true feel for the place and its atmosphere.

Thoughts on Group Leader

A fine ambassador for his country, Sokkim transmitted a graceful serenity which made us all feel at ease with him, sure in the knowledge of his ability to calmly overcome any challenges and provide us with whatever information or help we needed in a measured and warm manner. True to his principles, he was ever keen to ensure we got the most from our time in Cambodia, as well as striving for the best for his compatriots and homeland.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Cambodia may not be the first country to spring to mind for a visit in the region, but the variety of experiences there and warm welcome certainly make it a recommendation. Angkor Wat alone justifies going, but there is so much more to warrant spending more time there.

The Tropical South

I had a most splendid holiday. The group were lovely and we all seemed to get on very well. I feel I has a wonderful introduction to to Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

Most Inspirational Moment

I enjoyed all aspects of the tour but the most inspirational was the time spent in Madurai. We had a agreat visit to the temple and the palace. It was noisy and crowded and so exciting. I had a wonderful cycle rickshaw ride through the market streets, visited local restaurant and meet some street traders and other people who gave me insight into life in Madurai. It was so vibrant, so alive, so exciting and it had a very memorable impact on me.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader, Charles, was wonderful. He has a deep understanding of the society and culture of the area. I was deeply impressed by his organisation of our time, his support and kindness to all members of the group, for example soothing worries about food and ensuring that everyone was able to access the sort of diet they wanted. He was so lively and engaged with us with great good humour and excitement about his homeland. He loves his part of India and was able to give us a great introduction to the different religions, caste groups and general diversity. He is also kind to his own people showing us how to manage tipping and show respect in their terms.

Advice for Potential Travellers

I would say go soon and try to make sure you have Charles as group leader. He makes it all so exciting and interesting.

Finnish Wilderness Week

This will be THE most amazing and fun week you will ever have! The setting is just beautiful – your snug and warm cabin looking out over the snow covered forest, a short walk away from the frozen lake. The BaseCamp staff will look after you, keeping you warm and extraordinarily well fed throughout the week, and exhausted (in a good way) from all the various fun activities.

Most Inspirational Moment

The husky sledding was the definite highlight! -39C but sooooooooooo much fun dashing through the national park. Unforgettable

Thoughts on Group Leader

Martii and Juka were just fabulous - they really understood the wilderness, the potential risks and how to avert any accidents. They taught us some great skills and kept us safe, warm, well fed throughout the week with a smile on their faces at all times. Thanks for a great week BaseCamp team

One of our best holidays ever!

A fantastic mix of scenery, culture, history and wildlife all observed from the saddle against a backdrop of highland tea plantations and forest or lowland Paddy fields. All fuelled by delicious local food including curry and fresh pineapple, papaya and bananas – aided by bucket loads of tea and tasty snacks on the roadside! So much packed into a small country and a short holiday.

Most Inspirational Moment

Reaching the top of the highest hill (1900m) and getting a big cheer!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Suresh was passionate about his country and sharing it's highlights. He did this with great knowledge and humour but most importantly he took time out to make everyone feel they were personally welcome and that they were happy with their daily experience

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go as soon as possible!

Sri Lanka

A fantastic trip to Sri Lanka. A busy 2 weeks, but we saw and learned so much about the culture, food, history, etc of this beautiful country. The people were so friendly and the food was amazing.

Most Inspirational Moment

Reaching the summit of Adam's Peak in time for sunrise. It was a really tough climb. Seeing wild elephants in the game park.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Sujan was fantastic. We could not have had a better leader. He was knowledgeable, organised, honest and fun. He wanted us to love his country and went far beyond what was expected to guarantee we had a memorable trip.

Advice for Potential Travellers

It was very hot and humid in January, but can still rain. Take a light rain coat. Binoculars are useful on safari. Most hotels had pools. I wish I'd taken flip flops! There is time to shop in Kandy and in Galle, but not much more.
