Off track ski ing in Kvitavatn

We had a fantastic week of brilliant sunshine. We were largely off track ski ing and the area is wild and beautiful. Once off track we rarely saw another skier. We saw more animal than human tracks. We warmed up outside every morning to the amusement of the locals and then stretched in the evening before taking a sauna.

Most Inspirational Moment

Reaching the summit of the 'Eagle's Nipple' on skis.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Mary and Ilse were fantastic. Experienced knowledgable and patient they couldn't do enough for us.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Even if you have never been on skis if you are reasonably fir you will be off track skinning in a couple of days.

In Search Of The Snow Leopard

I felt privileged to see this unique part of the world – its awesome magnificence, its wildlife, and its culture. The Buddhist ceremonies at Matho were fascinating and I appreciated the fact that it was nota show put on for tourists,(of which there were very few) but for the ladakhi locals.Once we began trekking and camping, the environment revealed its beauty, but also its harshness and austerity – the cold and the altitude were a challenge for most of us I think, although we were very well catered for by our ladakhi guides and porters.

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing the Rumbak valley.Seeing wolves and a lynx.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Valerie was an excellent group leader - tougher than any of us,and always on hand to give advice.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The obvious thing - take good cold weather gear, especially sleeping bag and down jacket - however, you dont really need great big waterproof walking boots as the trails are mainly dry and dusty.

Discover Costa Rica

The necessary evil of the tour was all the coach travelling, of course Costa Rica cannot be seen without touring. Beautiful scenery, diversity of weather conditions from rain forrest to Hot central pacific stunning beaches. a bit too much bird watching, if you’re not a bird watcher it got a little too much for us at times.

Most Inspirational Moment

I loved swimming in the pacific and diving in the waves. The stunning sunset, the eco friendliness of the country. Animals, birds, flora and fauna superb, not forgetting the zip wire and hanging bridges in MonteVerde and the sunset over the pacific.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Gustavo was inspirational, very knowledgeable, excellent guide

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you don't like long coach journeys and only spending 2 nights in each lodge then this may not be for you

Excellent Ecuador

Ecuador is an amazing place to visit with a diverse geography. It means every day of a two week holiday is varied and interesting. With our great guide and driver we managed to go from nearly 5000m to sea level with lots of other scenery and activities along the way.

Most Inspirational Moment

Chimborazo and being the highest I've ever been in the world (with my feet still on the ground!) Seeing and hearing Mt Tungurahua volcano erupting ..... Wow!! Swimming in the Amazon basin

Thoughts on Group Leader

Pablo was a brilliant leader - full of knowledge and enthusiasm for his country which he shared with the group at lots of opportunities.... now, how high was that mountain?! He was fun, very patient and with an easy manner had the group well organised... "Be prepared for anything" !! Pablo helped make a great trip special and memorable.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared! Bring many different layers of clothing from swimsuit to hat, gloves and raincoat. Stronger sunscreen than normally use Long trousers and long sleeves still may be needed even when weather very hot All hotels had good wifi Iberia airlines not great

Walking the Amalfi Coast

The title says exactly what we did but does not convey the variety created by trips to Pompeii and Vesuvius and, on our free day, to Herculaneum and Naples. The trip notes do, however, fill in the gaps. We enjoyed a relaxing and interesting week with a group of like minded people in beautiful surroundings assisted by friendly and helpful staff. An ideal break from a bleak February in the UK.

Most Inspirational Moment

Reaching the summit of Vesuvius as the mist cleared to reveal the stupendous crater and the Bay of Naples.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent. Very well organised, attentive to detail, helpful, friendly and yet able to remain unobtrusive and let the holiday 'flow'.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Like steps! Prepare to slim afterwards - the food was brilliant and copious.

Iceland Northern Lights

Iceland is an amazing place and I’d recommend a visit. But disappointed as we didn’t see Northern Lights.

Most Inspirational Moment

Walking across a glacier, seeing the blue glaciers from the bus window, seeing the icebergs on the black beach.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader Ipi was fantastic, she couldn't do enough for us and made sure every single person was OK.

Advice for Potential Travellers

This was a great trip, but you're tied to the pre-planned itinerary around the south coast of Iceland. The days were very full, which was great, but would have liked more flex to get to better places to see NLs, as they are the main attraction of the tour. Bring your own shower gel - both our hotels were surprisingly primitive on the toiletries side. Also towels provided tended to be very thin, one pillow each, and thin narrow duvets.

Exciting Ecuador

Great 2 weeks trip round Ecuador seeing of the many facets of the country. It has so much to offer in terms of views, volcanoes, wildlife, walking etc. Can’t recommend it enough

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing Volcán Tungurahua erupt! Wow! Fantastic view of it at night from our hotel Also being on the top of the world at Volcán Chimborazo!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Pablo had the patience of a saint & a fab sense of humour. Excellent english. Always enthusiatic & passionate about his country (he wants everyone to retire there!)

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for very fierce sunshine even on cloudy days - take sunblock & long sleeves Make sure you take hat, gloves, warm layers for visiting Chimborazo & Cajas NP

Cycling the backroads of Sri lanka

Before we went on this trip we wondered if it would be too challenging. We are reasonably fit leisure cyclists and thoroughly enjoyed cycling through a beautiful country. Yes some days were long & it was hot but we coped & enjoyed & had such a feeling of achievement. The support vehicle was always there if the heat or hill became too much & on the longest hill climb several made use of this for a short distance. You could stow the bike for a few km & get back on again when you wanted.

Most Inspirational Moment

So many. But the beauty of the country we cycled through & the views from being on a bike & cycling through rural countryside interacting with really friendly local people was a great experience

Thoughts on Group Leader

Suresh was the best leader so far on any trip we have done & made it all go so smoothly. And he always had cold Lion beers ready for us as we arrived at the hotel. What more could you ask for!!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take electrolytes & keep drinking loads. It's amazing what you can achieve . The good cyclists all know they can do it. It's the leisure cyclist that may be not sure. Loads of snack & rest stops built in & the team look after you all the time.

Andes to Amazon

A good tour with a variety of landscapes, flora and fauna to see, as well as opportunity to see how some of the natives make a living.

Most Inspirational Moment

Something not planned but since Tungurahua erupted while we were in Banos we were able to spend some time on the hillside opposite watching the show it put on, and listening / watching it from the hacienda that night.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Pablo is an enthusiastic ambassador for his country with a strong sense of humour and willing to encourage tour groups of all ages to retire to Ecuador.

Advice for Potential Travellers

There are parts of the tour where it is hot, and parts where it is cold - take layers (as many as four of five unless you don't feel the cold very much) and keep them with you on days outside the jungle and the coast. Have a smaller, waterproof bag to take a couple of days clothing to the jungle lodge instead of your entire luggage. Be aware that while it won't necessarily rain, it can - hard. Prepare accordingly.

Great holiday

Fantastic holiday – lovely hostel (the nightly sauna I am still missing), outstanding instruction/leaders, and a great group of people

Most Inspirational Moment

Ilse's instruction

Thoughts on Group Leader

Both were excellent

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go! A few hints for packing though: the flight times are great, but the day of the trip out means no planned lunch break - so take something with you (though you can pick stuff up at oslo airport). DO pack gaiters, a sit mat, a thermos (even if you don't want a tea or coffee when you are out skiing, a warm drink goes down well). You really don't need much cash - the hostel takes cards now, and you can run a tab.
