Fantastic experience

This cycle tour was one of the best experiences I have ever had. Exodus were a great company and as a solo traveller I was very impressed with the support, nothing was too much trouble. It was a great itinerary, our tour leader was informative, flexible to all members of the group and did his best to accommodate everyone, despite there being some challenging members in the group.
All accommodations were great and of a good standard.
I would highly recommend the tour

Cycling in the mornings on quiet back roads where you are greeted like celebrities by happy smiling families on they way to school/work

My personal experience was absolutely fine. Unfortunately there were several other travellers in the group who were very challenging, our group leader tried so hard to accommodate but nothing was ever enough. Mr Shaker was professional, courteous, informative, helpful and flexible at all times. A great tour leader.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Travel with an open mind. India can surprise at any point, not always perfect but the people are kind, friendly and great fun to be with. S India is fabulous and a very different feel to the North. And don't underestimate the trekking ! At over 2500m in heat and mountains for up to 9 hours needs good preparation. Also take poles, boots and a large water bottle. You will be rewarded though with great views and scenery. And the food on the trip is fabulous, especially for vegetarians.

Probably the best small group tour I have been on

An excellent and varied tour with many highlights. We missed out on visiting Battambang because of border disputes but this was probably to our benefit as we had extra days in Phnom Penh and Siem Riep so we had less travelling and moving hotels and gained a lovely cycle ride round Silk Island in Phnom Penh so we didn’t miss out on anything. The pace was comfortable with quite moments but no boredom. The group was lovely, the leader excellent, the restaurants also excellent, such a variety of delicious food, beautifully presented at extremely reasonable prices (helped by a good exchange rate with the US$ but would still ahve been reasonable). The only improvement would have been the inclusion of some of the optional extras which were all excellent. I would have also been good to visit the Landmine museum and the Phnom Kulen mountains. I would say that countryside was what was most missing from this tour, we had glimpses on the day near Kampot and on Silk island but a visit to a National Park would have provided another level of contrast to those already on the tour. It would be good to provide an extension in Siem Riep to include a third day at the temples, the Landmine Museum, the floating villages and the Phnom Kulen mountains.

Most Inspirational Moment

Difficult to say, maybe the island, maybe sunrise at Angkor Wat, maybe the palace in Phnom Penh. The tour was so varied and so good it is difficult to choose what was best.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our leader, Chan Ly, was excellent. He paced the tour well to make sure we arrived at every location at the best time to get the best light for photos and to cope with the mid day heat. He also took us to some wonderful restaurants every night and was knowledgeable and helpful.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Allow yourselves extra days both in Phnom Penh and Siem Riep but especially in Siem Riep so you can make use of the third day on your temple pass. Also don't miss the optional sunrise at Angkor Wat, visit to the villages on the Lake near Siem Riep and the dinner show, all were excellent. The free to visit Siem Riep Botanical Garden was also lovely and only a short tuktuk ride from the hotel. Also if you don't like mountain bikes send details in advance of the type of bike you would like.

The Ultimate Scenic Road Trip!

This entire trip was a fantastic experience. From seeing one of the best cities in the world, to seeing the changing vegetation, wildness and wildlife, its understandable to why this is such a sought after area to see in South Africa.

Most Inspirational Moment

The best was definitely the meerkat safari. Waking up at 5am may not be for everyone, but getting to see and visit the wonderful meerkat family after a coffee and rusk with an incredible sunrise was a bucket list experience for the books!

Malik was absolutely fantastic. He really delivered world-class service and showed how Exodus go above and beyond for their customers. He was also extremely quick thinking, thoughtful and always made sure the bus was laughing.

South East Asia. Vietnam, Cambodia & Thailand

Many thanks. What a wonderful trip. Had a fabulous time & enjoyed every minute. Guides were brilliant. Cannot recommend them highly enough.

Banteay Srei temple in Cambodia. Small but beautifully formed. The food was marvelous including deep fried insects and of course the home stay.

All group leaders could not be faulted. Ha in Vietnam, Southeavy in Cambodia & Elle in Thailand (if only for a day but did wave me off5.30M. They were all brilliant , informative & friendly.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Just enjoy. Take it all in, sights, background and everything Take advantage of street food tours. Fabulous.

Gorgeous!

Fantastic food, gorgeous landscapes and, an overall, good time. The gite and desert camp were my favourites to wake up in.

Bring warmer layers to sleep in in January as the temp can really drop especially in the mountains.

Oman Odyssey

We really enjoyed the dramatic contrast in Oman’s geography, which almost seemed to change at every corner, from its rugged limestone peaks, rocky canyons and refreshing wadis, extensive sand dunes through to the sub-tropical coastal plains.

Qais was very experienced and extremely knowledgeable and passionate about Oman. The drivers all spoke good English, and were very friendly, helpful and caring.

Advice for Potential Travellers

It got quite cold at night (low single figures) in the mountains and on the final night of camping in the desert, so recommend cold weather clothing. The trip notes state that there are no washing or toilet facilities whilst camping, but on the first two nights a toilet tent with sit chemical toilet was provided. On the last night, in the Empty Quarter, there were showers (cold!) and a toilet block. Food throughout the trip was tasty, and portions were large, and cheap. We often shared meals between two people, with a meal costing under 3OMR.

Oman Desert Odyssey

Our trip to Oman was unforgettable. With no preconceived expectations, we were amazed by its dramatic mountains, deep canyons, lush wadis, vast deserts, and beautiful coastline. It’s a remarkably safe country, and most people speak enough English to make travelling easy.
We had a few memorable moments, including our tent collapsing at both the beach and the wadi camps due to strong winds. We also witnessed a blue‑green algae bloom that created glowing phosphorescence in the sea, though it sadly left thousands of dead fish along the shore — not the best beach for swimming.
Driving through the desert and exploring the dunes was a highlight, and our desert hotel felt especially luxurious after a night of beach camping.
Overall, experiencing Oman’s diversity and natural beauty was truly special.

Most Inspirational Moment

The endless deserts and wide, dry plains were breathtaking, as were the stunning mosques — especially the one in Muscat.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader was knowledgeable, though at times seemed a little tired and less enthusiastic than some of our previous leaders. The 4x4 drivers, however, were very engaging and happily answered most of our questions along the way.

Advice for Potential Travellers

It gets very cold in the mountains, and the mountain hotel isn’t really set up for winter as it’s mainly a summer property. The desert can also drop below freezing at night, so follow Exodus’ advice and pack warm clothing. I took a duvet coat and even slept in it while camping. Expect the unexpected — the unpredictability of both the trip and the country is part of what makes it so enjoyable.

A trip with such variation in environment; deserts, mountains, beaches, wadis...

I was lucky enough to join this trip as an Exodus staff member, and enjoyed very minute! There were areas where other tourists were few and far between, and whilst I was prepared for beautiful deserts, the mountains were stunning. We were able to eat amazing meals for less than £2, and camping under the stars was unreal.

Qais was a very experienced leader with a wealth of knowledge.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Both the deserts and mountains can get pretty cold at night (I travelled in January).

Too rushed.

The idea is sound – visiting four parks maximises the chance of seeing a good variety of wildlife.
However the trip notes seriously under state the terrible condition of the roads and therefore the time it takes to make the transfers. We spent more time on the road between parks than we did on game drives.
The driving is terrifying.
The whole trip felt rushed, as soon as we arrived at a park we were hurried into a meal and then straight out in the vehicle again. There was no time to relax or make use of the facilities in the lodges (which were lovely.)
The behaviour of the guides in the parks was shocking to me. There is a 5 vehicles per animal rule but whenever there was a big cat there were a crowd of 30 or more, all jostling for position and hounding the animals if they moved off. At one point I thought they had run over a chetah. Our driver also broke the no driving off road and no speeding rules. I felt ashamed to be part of it.

We were present when a solo lioness challenged a leopard in a tree and stole her kill.

Alex was very knowledgeable but didn't offer up much information without being asked. His driving was frightening.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Think very carefully about this one. And if you have any back problems or issues with motion sickness do not do it.

We’d like to thank Claire for taking the time to leave a candid review of her experience on this trip, though it’s a matter of real regret that she was disappointed by several aspects.

We feel we accurately portray the nature of the roads in Kenya, as we state in the trip notes that “There are some long drives over rough roads on this trip, which allow us to get into the wilds of Kenya.” We’re sorry that, regardless, Claire found the drives were more demanding than she’d anticipated.

It was concerning to read about Claire’s impression of the driving on this trip. Our drivers are experienced in driving on Kenyan roads, and in some instances need to maintain a certain speed to navigate the corrugated sections of road more stably. Nevertheless, we have spoken to our local team about this and do not expect to see similar comments about the driving from future clients going forward.

We also understand that a rare sighting in the park Claire mentions meant that an exception was made to the “5 vehicle only” rule by park authorities, though it is a shame to learn that Claire felt the number and pushiness of vehicles soured the experience for her.

Finally, with regards to the itinerary, we find that in general our customers are happy with the pace of the trip, but we are looking at tweaking certain days on future departures to reduce the amount of travelling, as we appreciate this was a drawback for Claire.
