Discover Costa Rica

This was our first Exodus trip and it won’t be our last! It was a well paced holiday, moving on after two days in one place, but we managed to see a range of different environments in this amazing country. There was such a number and variety of animals and birds wherever we went! It must have one of the richest natural habitats in the world. The scenery was stunning too – from beautiful river systems to volcanoes and cloud forests and tropical rain forests. What an experience!

Most Inspirational Moment

It's difficult to pinpoint any single moment, but waking up to the sound of howler monkeys in the trees above our chalet on the first morning was something that will live with us for a long time!

Thoughts on Group Leader

We chose this trip as the guide was a bird expert. Giullamo did not disappoint. He was professional throughout, making sure we all got the most out of the holiday. His knowledge of birds and animals was encyclopedic and he had an instinct for spotting the wildlife before any of us were aware of it. He took the trouble to explain about the different environments we visited and his pride in his country shone through. The research he had done before the trip paid dividends, down to booking good restaurants; in one case reserving seats to watch a sunset before we sat down to eat. We all agreed we could not have had a better guide.

Advice for Potential Travellers

We went to Costa Rica in the "dry" season, but the rain forests lived up to their name on a couple of occassions. Our waterproof ponchos proved invaluable to cover ourselves & our backpacks until the rain eased off. Having a pair of binoculars each was a good thing too.

Breathtaking (literally)

This trip proved to be an amazing, once in a lifetime adventure which I feel so lucky to have experienced.

Most Inspirational Moment

Waking at 3:30am (optional element of the trip!), around minus 5 outside, pitch black and snowy - all for an optional walk up Kala Patthar. A somewhat grumpy and bleak start ended up being the highlight of the trip - particularly seeing the sun rise over Everest - truly mind-blowing. will never, ever forget it.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader B was truly awesome. confident, caring, responsible and fun. We genuinely couldn't of wishes for a better group leader.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Definitely to pack everything on the required items list - you will need everything!

Family Fun in SE Asia

It felt like a month’s worth of holiday in 2 weeks! The one other family were lovely- making it a real pleasure to travel together. The children really all got on well and that really made life easy! We would not have managed to see and do so much in 2 weeks if we had traveled independently- our guides (Tam in Vietnam) and Dyka (Cambodia and Thailand) were both knowledgeable and helpful and coped with our noise well!! The whole trip was as expected- apart form the VERY long drive form Siem Reap to Bangkok (much longer than anticipated due to Thai traffic). Apart form this one thing the bus was reliable and comfortable and everything was organised in a family-friendly and timely fashion. It really felt like our Guides did all the hard work and we just got to have the fun. We have some truly amazing memories and I think our children will talk about it for years (hopefully!).

Most Inspirational Moment

Everything along the Mekong Delta... the different boats, the local guide who knew everything, the Homestay and the food.

Thoughts on Group Leader

They were both patient and amazing.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Pack light- you will repack lots! Use local laundry facilities. Wifi was everywhere so tablets for long journies and cards/uno/ dobble etc are good for the longer bus rides.

Excellent overview tour of Albania

An excellent overview trip of Albania made especially good due to the knowledge and experience of our guide, Erion Puca. His knowledge along with the friendliness of locals and the friendly group of experienced travelers we had made for a wonderful and informative trip.

The beauty of the Albanian landscape is exceptional and our guide ensured we understood the history and current realities. For me, the trip had special meaning as I have Albanian-Arbëreschë roots going back to the 1400s. The guide, locals and my fellow travelers on the tour were all very helpful and supportive in my quest to understand more about the connection.

Most Inspirational Moment

There were several. Krujë was not only a beautiful city, with the Panorama Hotel being the best hotel of the trip, but it had historic significance for me. Porto Palermo and a stop in Himarë were also beautiful and meaningful for me. Gjirokaster was our first city where the weather was excellent and we could visit many historical sites. It was made all the more fun as we were one of the first tour groups of the season and were interviewed and appeared on local television. The ruins and our guide at Butrint were also very interesting. The visit to the Apollonia ruins with one of the chief archaeologists of the site was also superb. There was an overall good quality of food, with the lunch at the mountain restaurant just after the pass above Himarë standing out with its fresh lamb and homemade yogurt/honey dessert. We also tried many of the different sorts of raki, which was always an adventure.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Erion Puca was a very experienced and considerate guide with excellent English and Italian. He understood what we wanted as tourists. He had a good sense of humor. He also explained the history of Albania and how things really work on a day to day basis in the country. If he did not know something, he took the extra time and trouble to get us an answer as quickly as possible. He had good connections that got things done. He also inspired hope for the future of Albania. His efforts to help me understand my genealogical roots in terms of history and places were much appreciated and interesting to all. When the National Musuem in Tirana was closed due to holidays, so that we did not lose out on learning about Albanian history, he found time at the end of the trip to bring us back to the Bunker Art Museum that was not at all what we expected and we enjoyed it very much.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The weather started off a little cold in the first and northern most part of the trip, but as it got later in March and we traveled more to the south, the weather became warmer and we were definitely into a lovely spring. Shopping for Albanian items and souvenirs is limited and we really only had good opportunity for this in Krujë. The hotel in Permeti, the Hotel Permeti, was not that good, although it may have been the best option available. We all commented on the weird, squishy, wet bath mats that were in the bathrooms. In spite of that, the dinner of wild boar and local specialities and a quick morning walk in town on our own time before getting in the van were appreciated. There is a lot of time spent traveling in the van, but it was a good mix of sitting and walking when combined with the sightseeing we did when we got to our destination. Berat is a good city to walk around in and very beautiful, especially at night.

Absolutely Brilliant trip

The title of this holiday is Discover Costa Rica, and that is exactly what it delivers. During the break, you get to experience the beauty and the wide diversity of the country from Mangroves on the Caribbean coast, to volcanic regions to rain forests, cloud forests and beach resorts on the Pacific coast.

Most Inspirational Moment

For me, the best part of the trip was Tortuguero on the north east, Caribbean coast. We stayed in La Laguna lodge which, although fairly rustic was nevertheless very comfortable and crammed with opportunities to see various forms of the beautiful wildlife to be found in Costa Rica from wading birds to sloths, to raptors, frogs and howler monkeys and many many more. Other areas such as Monte Verde cloud forest, and Esquinas Lodge were also extremely beautiful and interesting places.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our leader was Guillermo Arrieta who was absolutely outstanding. His knowledge of and passion for his country, it's wildlife, industry and beauty was palpable. His attention to detail to ensure that every member of our group got everything they wanted from this holiday was superb. I can honestly say that having experienced many other group leaders with other high quality travel companies, Guillermo is by far the best.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take plenty of memory cards for your camera (my wife and I took in excess of 10,000 pictures!), good quality waterproofs (it is a rain frost after all and it certainly doesn't disappoint!), good quality binoculars and stout but comfortable walking shoes.

TPT170421

My first trek and first Exodus holiday and it couldn’t have been better!

Most Inspirational Moment

Sleeping above the cloud forest

Thoughts on Group Leader

Brilliant! Tomas had so much knowledge of the area and history of the Inkas. He made everyday something different and couldn't do enough to help

Everest Base Camp TNT170413

The trip was exceptionally well organized. The group leader and guides were totally in control and were very knowledgeable on the subject of the trek. They were also always in the immediate vicinity to help anyone in the group who needed help.

Most Inspirational Moment

Reaching Everest base camp and getting to know all the members of our excellent group

Thoughts on Group Leader

Five star.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Carry some extra food that you prefer to eat as the menu is rather limited

Absolutely wonderfull!!

As Belgians it was our first experience with Exodus Travel but it was an wonderfull experience. We absolutely loved the full trip, the magnificent nature every day again, the nice atmosphere within the group, the local guides who took good responsability.
The combination of both countries, lakes, volcanoes, mountains, vieuws all over….the beauty just didn’t stop!
Very good bikes (as new!) with front suspension.

Most Inspirational Moment

Every day was a new and beautiful suprise. The possibility of climbing an active volcano with some members of our group was unique, very special!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Thank you to all the guides and organisation.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Just enjoy!!

Walking in Puglia and Matera

The holiday was all that I hoped it would be. I’ve learnt so much about an area of Italy where I hadn’t been before. Good company with mix of ages, great accommodation, easy walking and fantastic guide.

Most Inspirational Moment

Matera was beautiful with hidden house and churches in caves. Great hotel. Alberobello - I hadn't realised there would be so many Trulli houses.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Amazing - from the start to the end of the trip, she informed us of all the local history. She provided help with restaurants and even arranged for two packed lunches whilst we were walking. Great local knowledge which was invaluable.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Definitely one for your short list!

Great walks, beautiful island

It was my first walking trip with Exodus so I was not sure how easy or difficult the walks would be for me based on the moderate rating. It turned out I managed just fine. As usual with Exodus trips everything was very well organised, hotels were clean and comfortable, food was good and plenty and the company delightful

Most Inspirational Moment

Even though very walk could be the highlight of the trip, if I were to select one, it would be the middle part of the Porto Cruz walk on day 2, a traverse of a mountain face dropping towards the ocean. I think the day 4 could have been the top pick if it were not for the weather. We did not see much that day as we walked mostly in a cloud and fog but that is something we have to accept when hiking in the mountains. And it was still a good day

Thoughts on Group Leader

Andre is a pure delight. From the first moment he picked me up at the airport I knew he enjoys his jobs and takes pride of his island. He readily shared his vast knowledge of Madeira. He liked to joke but he also made sure that we were always safe and comfortable.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Trekking poles helped me a lot, especially during the descents on day 4.
