Tropical India

My first time in India and Tropical India was an ideal place to start. Some of my fellow travellers who started in the north confirmed this. I was told Kerala and Tamil Nadu is greener, slower and softer than the big cities of the north. I was a solo traveller and the group couldn’t have been more friendly and inclusive.
Well paced trip ,busy but not exhausting.
All in all a well organised and wonderful experience, I shall certainly be travelling with Exodus again.

Most Inspirational Moment

The overnight on the boat in the Kerala backwaters was as delightful as I hoped and definitely a highlight. The crew were lovely and gave us a great experience. All the food on the trip was delicious. I like my curries spicey but not hot and that is what I got. The restaurants always ask how you liked your curry and gave you what you wanted. We had quite a lot of buffet meals which were good value and provided lots of choice. The rickshaw ride through Madurai was great fun. Really everything was inspirational !

Thoughts on Group Leader

Manoj was totally committed to giving us the best possible experience he could. He joined us for all meals and ensured that the service we received in restaurants and hotels was efficient and met our needs. He looked after us very well and was very caring. All our group remained happy and healthy with only minor ailments, but I am sure that if the need had arisen he would have made sure prompt and good treatment were provided.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Do as much as you can and take advantage of all the optional trips. Take some clothes with you that you are happy to leave behind. I am sure the chambers maids appreciate this as part of their tip! This will also make room in your case for presents. Kovalam is a shoper's paradise! Lots of small craft shops, many family run, all with their own different traditional designs. I also bought a beautiful Kashmir rug in Madurai which I have shipped home. The 4hr trek through the tea plantation is tougher than the tour notes suggest, lots of steep inclines and descents. Our group's age range was early 50s to early 70s and we all did it, thanks to Manoj support and encouragement. Its well worth doing it, but I was very glad I took a stick to provide extra stability.

Not Relaxing but Packs a Lot in!

A very busy schedule which can leave you exhausted at times but is essential due to the length and geographical constraints of this stunningly beautiful and varied country.

The Atacama was amazing with its unspoiled panoramas of deep blue lagoons set against snow-capped volcanos with vicunas grazing undisturbed, and the elegant movements of the flamingos as they seem to do a dance as they fish at the Chaxa lagoons, unperturbed by onlookers.

There is so much wildlife to observe and nowhere ever seems crowded.
The varieties of tree species and fauna are fascinating too

The National Parks are really well maintained and unspoilt.

The weather in Patagonia can be quite wet and windy so be prepared but when the clouds part to reveal the granite towers of Torres de Paine it will take your breath away

Most Inspirational Moment

For me the Atacama had so many aspects to it - from the full moon rising at sunset next to the snowy peak of the Lincancabur volcano set ablaze with colours of the setting sun, to the extraordinary sight of the steamy Tatio geysers in the freezing cold of sunrise, followed by a dip in the thermal springs to complete the experience The silent beauty of the salt lagoons - stunning!

Gaynor was outstanding - really organised but very calm. Her knowledge and passion for her country seemed limitless so I think we all came away with a greater appreciation of life in Chile. Gaynor was warm and compassionate, always with a smile - and had a laugh I shall never forget! Her timing was good so we managed to fit in a couple of extra walks. She really enhanced the enjoyment of the trip and was always willing to answer our many questions. A lovely person.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Would recommend taking a direct flight to Santiago Buy Pesos for your trip in the UK - don't bother with USD they are a nuisance to change and the rate is not good. Zodiac trip can be paid in local currency or on credit card Take waterproof walking shoes and poles if you like them for inclines like the Osorno Volcano walk. trainers are not adequate. Patagonia can be very wet and slippery under foot I took a travel kettle as I like to make hot drinks in the room - no hotel offers kettle in room.

An amazing trip with the best guiding team ever!

This was by far the best cycling holiday I have ever been to. Amazing places and views!
A challenging cycling route for someone with a minor cycling experience like myself. But I made it, thanks to the support and encouragement of this amazing team: Roberto, Paul, Alvaro, Jose, Ronaldo! Names and personalities we will never forget! Thank you for helping me add beautiful images and feelings, in my life’s “memory box”, but most of all, thank you for keeping us SAFE and happy! It was more than obvious that you were there for us to ENJOY our trip, see, feel and taste the beauty of the most amazing part of the world. Feeling fit and healthy, looking forward to our next adventure!
Thank you!

RESCUING A SLOTH ON THE WAY TO LA FORTUNA!

Natural highlights of Costa Rica.

This was a fabulous trip, giving you a slice of Costa Rica. There is a lot of driving between locations, ( at times 4-5 hours) some of the roads were still unmade, so can be very bumpy. The weather was extremely hot in places, but in Monteverde quite windy and therefore something warm to wear is a necessity. We saw so many beautiful birds and reptiles,on our boat trips and our guide had a wealth of knowledge of fowl and fauna. Beautiful kingfishers, herons, lizards, turtles, crocodiles to name but a few. The boat trips made it for me,but the visit to the Hot Springs was fun and a great way of getting to know your group! The suspension bridges were a lot lower than I thought they would be and it was far too short. If you are not afraid of heights and speed, go for the Zip Wire. I would recommend taking a waterproof jacket, walking boots or shoes, and mosquito repellent!

Most Inspirational Moment

I loved the boat trip at Cano Negro; the boat was open at the front and you could stand and view both sides of the river for the local wildlife. We all had fun trying to spot the elusive sloths, but great time had by all.

Thoughts on Group Leader

He had an incredible knowledge of all the flowers and wild life, and could spot creatures from a great distance; very impressive.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take a weather proof jacket, walking boots or shoes, mosquito repellent and buckle up!

Discover Costa Rica

The title “Discover Costa Rica” puts it in a nutshell. We explored from coast to coast and many of the forests in between. On our trip over 125 different birds were identified including nesting Quetzals, many mammals, reptiles and even an eye lash viper. The flowers and butterflies in the many gardens of the lodges were a joy. There is an emphasis on being aware of and on contributing to the conservation of the natural resources which was appreciated.

Most Inspirational Moment

Coming from a snow bound country, the colour and sounds of Costa Rica were an ongoing delight.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Antonio, our local Costa Rican guide was excellent - his knowledge of the inhabitants and the vegetation of the many forests we visited was very extensive. He unfailingly answered our many questions, and if he didn't know the whole answer he researched it and gave us the relevant information later. He often stopped the bus along the way so we might experience a roadside market, take a photo or view cocoa trees up close etc.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Anyone who is tall will find the pitch of the seats in the small bus rather short. There are only 2 places in the bus where tall people can comfortably fit their long legs! Everyone on our tour thoughtfully respected this and left the seat by the side door for my husband who at over 2 metres has long legs.

Walking the amalfi coast

Wonderful way to walk and see the highlights of the amalfi coast. The guide, Enrico enthusiastically took us on the walks and always had a plan b or c if the weather disappointed us. Take walking poles if you have sore knees as lots of steps and be prepared to walk up 400metres as well as down lots of steps. Hotel a great place to come back to for a well earned hot shower, a drink and diner .

Most Inspirational Moment

Walking around versuvius and having a packed lunch in ravello

Thoughts on Group Leader

Enthusiastic particularly about the environment and traditions

Advice for Potential Travellers

Heed the fitness training notes and take walking poles if knees an issue

Just what we wanted!

This was a great trip which we really enjoyed. It was described as ‘moderate/challenging’, which related to the ‘undulations’ and sometimes dirt tracks upon which we cycled, and some of the ‘normal’ roads and paved roads were a little rough. Having said that, we all managed OK. Additionally, the trip was ‘full on’ with some early starts, some late meals and other activities such as boat trips, and other options too. No two days were the same, variety was the key. There were 16 of us on this trip, ranging in age from 32-69 (which was me!) with two couples (all in their sixties) the rest friends/singles, and a majority of women.

Most Inspirational Moment

For me it was mixing with different cultures and seeing at first hand how people can string a life together with minimal resources and facilities.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Roberto was quite exceptional, with amazing organisational skills; he was on the go all the time, dealing with our cycling needs, giving advice, and permanently planning ahead whether it was pre-warning hotels of our arrival, ordering our meals in advance or paying for activities to be re-imbursed later. And delightful with it..... Fantastic.

Advice for Potential Travellers

We were a little anxious about the challenging nature of the trip, but we all managed OK. I would certainly recommend some pre-hol training; some of us hadn't done any and perhaps wished they had - rather like a skiing holiday! We'd also strongly recommend gel saddle-savers unless you bring your own saddle. Also, we were a little anxious about mosquitoes and malaria; in fact there was minimal mossy activity and we didn't take anti-malarials. However, insect repellent was occasionally necessary. Roberto was really helpful on this one, as with everything else!

La Palma

A very varied place with ridge walks, forest walks and volcano walks etc. Some tough climbs and quite harsh surfaces. Not suitable for those who are unsteady on their feet or suffer from vertigo. The hotels were quite decent and the food was up to expectations although not exceptional. Henri our tour leader did a superb job he had a good knowledge of the island kept us well entertained and nothing was too much trouble for him. Overall it was a well worth while trip which I would recommend to anyone who is reasonably fit. I would certainly not be adverse to doing it again in the future.

Most Inspirational Moment

Nothing in particular there was no great moment of enlightenment

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent we were all very impressed with him

Advice for Potential Travellers

Under no circumstances should you fall over the volcanic surface is extremely abrasive just about everywhere.

Trekking in Aitana

A marvellous week in empty mountains so extremely close to the populated coastline, hard to believe it can be so easy to find bare nature.

Most Inspirational Moment

Everything about the trip was inspirational as there was always a good team spirit and the two leaders had so much enthusiasm to keep us trekking.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Jose and Jamies were brilliant. Exceptionally funny and inspiring and full of local knowledge. Willing to talk plenty whilst walking but also giving holiday makers space for peace and quiet.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The grading of the holiday is very appropriate, all treks will be managed if you pace yourself. Remember weather can be changeable in the mountains.

An amazing trip

A lovely trip which includes a very varied itinerary. You get to see different areas of Chile, from the desert , city life, lakes and mountains all with amazing scenery. Seeing the sun rise through the steaming geysers in the Atacama desert and the frozen glaciers in Patagonia were my highlights. There is a lot of travelling with internal flights but how else would you get to see all the different areas. Gaynor our guide was excellent, well organised, calm and caring , every day was a new adventure and she was always happy and smiling. A really lovely trip.
