Angkor Wat Trips

Angkor is the standout archaeological site in Southeast Asia, with more than 100 stone temples built by Khmer kings over 400 years. Of all the structures, however, it is Angkor Wat that shines brightest – a Hindu temple so vast that it is said to have taken 300,000 people and 6,000 elephants to build. Elsewhere, there is plenty more to see on Angkor Wat tours. Another highlight is the Bayon, which features 54 intricately carved gothic towers complete with enormous carved smiling faces. Though much of Angkor has been restored, the Ta Prohm temple was deliberately left with its jungle covering; you get a real sense of what the French explorers would have seen when they rediscovered the site in the 1870s. This remarkable place is definitely one for the bucket list.

James Levack Cycle Indochina & Angkor

A very enjoyable trip highlighting a few places/aspects of each country. If you do not have more time, this is a great intro to both Vietnam and Cambodia. Well organised, varied – in spite of limited time, we felt, we’ve seen a lot. The activity level was low as described, the pace was a bit more than expected, requiring early rises on many occasions, but this enabled us to see as much as possible, which we wanted and appreciated. Accomodation was of a slightly lower standard than expected (by reading travel notes), but overall it was OK. Plus if this is your first time in the country, it is hard to know what the norm is.
