Itinerary Expand all Day 1 Depart Falkland Islands Day by day schedules are optimistic at best in these remote South Atlantic backwaters so it is important to understand that we are unlikely to be adhering to them too closely. A photographic expedition like this will plan to make as much available time as possible in these two hot spots and this will involve a lot of early starts and late finishes. Rigidly sticking to a published itinerary is not only very mainstream but also, with the vagaries of the weather systems, can be seriously compromised. This is an expedition, not a cruise and essentially whether it is the hundreds of thousands of Kings at St Andrews Bay, Gold Harbour or Salisbury Plain, the fertile Falkland islands of Carcass, Sealion and West Point, we will be doing our best, weather permitting to make the most of the time available. That said, with a fair wind and some sheltered landings you could potentially be looking at something like this... Meals included: Dinner Day 2 At Sea Crossing the cold water convergence towards South Georgia with the current and winds at our tail. Huge flocks of seabirds follow the stern of the Magellan while the temperature drops as the bow heads South East. Meals included: Breakfast Lunch Dinner Days 3-9 South Georgia Seven days minimum in South Georgia, maximising the best this remarkably photogenic island has to offer. Arrival should be at some stage on day three. Huge King penguin colonies are the principal attractions with about six spots to choose from, as well as the important port of Gritvyken, Stromness and Fortuna Bay. Historically this is an important outpost with its legacy of Shackleton, the whalers and indeed Falklands war. Time is the most marketable commodity here and these days will be action-packed trying to make good use of calm seas and daylight hours. There is probably nowhere better to photograph wildlife in the world, there is certainly no more dramatic setting. Meals included: Breakfast Lunch Dinner Days 10-12 At Sea Time to 'recover', download and indeed, reboot, for a final fling in the Falklands. Meals included: Breakfast Lunch Dinner Days 13-14 Falkland Islands Two days in the Falkland Islands with the islands of Saunders, Carcass, Bleaker, Volunteer Point and West Point on the menu, not all of them but the best of them. Meals included: Breakfast Lunch Dinner Day 15 Disembark in Stanley Disembark in Stanley, with time in the capital before the flight to Santiago. Meals included: Breakfast
