Laos River Village Project

Overview

Baraka Community Partnerships have been supporting a small NGO called Community Learning International (CLI) for many years and in 2012 Exodus joined forces with these two organisations in order to support the great work they are doing in difficult circumstances. CLI is a small NGO with 15 years’ experience providing rural educational projects in Luang Prabang Province of northern Laos. Baraka’s support involves building schools, school dormitories, school toilets, showers and water pipes as well as funding 3 “book boats” that visit rural and remote schools up and down the Mekong and Ou rivers. Baraka have also just started working with a second local organisation called Laos Project Group and will be installing a new village water system with our help in Vang Lei village in 2014.

Biggest achievement to date

Our new school is now complete! Construction in the village of Nong Kham started in November 2012 and the school was officially opened on 8th February 2013. Our Get Involved departure spent a couple of days working alongside the villagers to help speed along the building process and their manual labour certainly helped motivate the villagers if not entertain them. The school funded entirely by Exodus, our clients and Baraka Community Partnerships, is a two-classroom structure with a separate toilet block that will house about 40 children.

How You Can Help

Visit
If you are on one of our Laos trips you can visit the Luang Prabang library in the centre of town and buy some books (approx. $2.50 each) that will be distributed by CLI at the Baraka projects. Please let them know you are with Exodus.
Volunteer
If you would like to help even more then why not join our next Get Involved volunteer trip in November 2014.
Donate
Any extra funds will make a huge difference to help us reach our next goal of building a toilet block for Nong Kiaw primary school and the water pipe in Vang Lei.  Any money you donate will be match funded by our charity partner Baraka Community Partnerships, essentially doubling your donation.
