Croatia is gorgeous

Travelled as a single and managed to twist my knee before the actual cycling trip started. Not a good start. But the e-bike I’d ordered was great, and it was just a matter of hitting the battery harder than usual. The rest of the group was lovely and Alan Skulic the group leader was very patient and understanding – even carried my suitcase up 3 flights of stairs in Dubrovnik! Adrian our driver was equally patient and helpful. Croatia is stunning and the routes were varied and enjoyable. Some didn’t enjoy the gravel part; I’m used to gravel so I loved it. Some lovely downhills and the long climb on the first day was especially enjoyable. Prekrasno – the Croatian word for stunning. Easily remembered: break-crash-no.

Most Inspirational Moment

Alan said some previous customers had enjoyed a meal at Roco Farm2Table in Korčula, so I went there. It was wonderfully quirky. The owner is pleasantly eccentric, served me my GRK (local) wine through the bars of the small window by my outside table to the accompaniment of Dire Straits, Fleetwood Mac and Led Zep on the old record player. My seafood starter was perfect as a main, all veg grown by him. The view was lovely and the chats I had were most enjoyable. Korčula was easily my favourite place of the whole trip. 2nd most inspiring moments were the downhills under blue skies past miles of olive trees.

Alan was excellent. Great company, very informative on a range of subjects and he looks like Antonio Banderas. Another member of the group thought he was more of a George Clooney. Whatever, he didn't mind the leg-pulling. Nor did he mind my constant questions about the language - which sounds wonderful.

Advice for Potential Travellers

You often get a discount if you pay for your meals with cash. Make sure you have a mobile signal when dropped off by the old town of Split at the start or you'll spend ages trying to find the hotel. People seem to enjoy sending you the wrong way! But by October, I don't blame them. If you're in Hotel Vis in Dubrovnik, an upgrade to a decent view would help. My view of the bins was a bit of a downer after a wonderful trip.

Fascinating time in Northern India

It has taken me a couple of months to process this trip. I previously reviewed on the plane back from trips. You see a lot of things, I was away 20 days.
Dehli hot, a wall of heat as expected. I went out for a couple of longer explorations, plenty of things to see. If at the Hotel Deventure, Shandipur is the easier metro station to walk to, but further away from the centre; metro is the cheapest way to get around and air conditioned once in the train, tuk-tuk’s are around 10 times more expensive and hassle you if you dare to walk, or you can book an air conditioned taxi if you want to spend more. My favourite moment here ended being India arch at sunset at the end of my trip.
The hotels we stayed in were all comfortable enough for me, some more basic than others, The Milky Way in Hundar or Traditional Havali Hotel in Jaipur were probably my favourites.
Indian towns and cities have many cows, dogs, monkeys wondering around; there is lots of building work going on, like the nation has never been quite finished, even up in Ladakh on the trek around Wachan.
The camping for me was comfortable; single persons get a spacious 3 person tent.
The weather was mixed, sometimes sunny, some showers and fog, unusually cool (I had expected to be hot when walking).
Each day’s walks were shorter going up than I expected, though as I had some altitude sickness probably for the best. Our guide had another shorter walk most afternoons after tea from camp and when she didn’t I had a little stroll myself unless it was too wet (or on a morning to see the sun rise).
We also saw other people trekking and an Indian army expedition higher up.

Most Inspirational Moment

My favourite things about this trip were the Monasteries and large Buddha’s, following the river and crossing on wooden/ stone narrow bridges, up a green corridor surrounded by bare, towering, snow topped peaks, Yaks, mamuts, and other small mammals higher up (I watched a sandy coloured animal about fox size bound up the rocks one day for instance ), and our high point at the Glacial lakes (being unable to trek up the pass). I loved being up in the mountains. What I hadn’t expected was the number of different flowers I saw higher up. The Golden triangle was as expected, very different, chauffeur driven in an air conditioned car, a lot of driving to see the touristy sights of Agra and Jaipur, well organised, but also Abhaneri step well and Fatehpur Sikri that I hadn’t heard of, and a few markets and places to see how things are made and buy if you want. Overall I really enjoyed this trip and there is far too much to mention much of what we did in this review. It was strange to return from the green of India to the brown of early August Uk, where even the heather wasn’t blooming as it should.

Advice for Potential Travellers

There is a lot of forms to fill in and questions asked coming and going at the airport (e.g. it took me about an hour to queue up coming in). There is a number of things that can delay the trek; we had landslips on the road over the pass to get to the start of the trek which closed the road, delaying us 1 1/2days; though our plane was able to land/ take off on time both ways (needed an airline change last minute on the way; planes often get delayed due to the weather in Leh). Bring a basic, non-spring pen, my 2 popped in Leh airport on landing when trying to fill out a form, bits all over the place. There was an episode in the hotel in Leh when many charger plugs were shorted out, some managed to buy a replacement, though might be best to have a spare. With a mix of portable battery packs + foldable solar charger I managed not to run out of charge on my phone. I took binoculars, but rarely used this time. I had to take diamox due to headaches and not being able to sleep; I was ok at first in Leh, then suddenly wasn’t. Our July trip was relatively cool. This was nicer to trek in, but led to their being too much soft snow on the pass for the ponies so we had to turn back. The terrain walked on was easier than many walks I do in the lakes. We not only missed going up and over the pass, but also a spur valley up to camp, so we could make up time. Even going back down the same way was actually much more enjoyable than I had expected and we did cover much longer sections, and got to see the camels we had missed on the way (again needing to save time going over the road pass we missed the main stopping places). I enjoyed the Golden Triangle extension, well organised, very different to the trek. Nb 2 hotels I stayed at had swimming pools, the nicer being Royale Sarovar Portico in Agra. All hotels had kettles, tea bags (no chamomile), and coffee; and toilet paper. My legs got burnt in Dehli under my uv trousers when wondering around on my last day.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Thanos was an incredible guide! Knowledgeable, funny, and seemingly friends with everyone in Karystos, he made us feel like locals. His passion for history brought every story to life, and his love language is definitely food! He went above and beyond, paying attention to the smallest details and making extra efforts to ensure we had the best possible experience. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide and wholeheartedly recommend him to anyone visiting the area!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Pack walking poles and make sure you’re comfortable walking on rocky, uneven terrain, as the trails can be rugged in places. Most importantly, come with a sense of adventure and an open mind. Take every opportunity that presents itself whether it’s a spontaneous swim, a delicious local meal, a chance to meet someone new, or a detour to discover something unexpected. Sometimes the unplanned moments become the most memorable!

It’s very quiet just now so a great time to visit, The optional hikes in Petra are well worth doing and moderate in difficulty, It is an adventure with so much to see and do, I didn’t feel rushed though. Our group gelled and we all supported each other.

Visiting the women in Chinchero and spending time learning about their traditions was truly special. Seeing Machu Picchu in person was also an unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Our leader was knowledgeable, caring, and passionate about sharing his country's history and culture. He went the extra mile, introducing us to authentic local experiences, even stopping at small bakeries to try traditional Peruvian bread. He also made sure we felt well and comfortable throughout the trip.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Come with an open mind, bring comfortable walking shoes and layers, and allow yourself time to adjust to the altitude. Embrace the local culture, enjoy every moment, and be ready for an incredible adventure. Peru will surprise you in the best possible way! ❤️

A brilliant trip to Japan — and a guide who made the difference

We recently returned from a trip to Japan with Exodus and it was fantastic. The planning and service were seamless end to end, which made the whole experience completely stress-free – everything just worked!

Our local guide, was so helpful and cared that we had a good time. He was patient with our questions, shared history and local knowledge along the way.

The experiences were unique and thoughtfully chosen — they’re what made the holiday so special. Highlights included a traditional tea ceremony, staying overnight at a temple, and a stunning walking trail that we’ll remember for a long time. We’re already booking our next trip with Exodus and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them.

Very enjoyable and comfortable cycling trip

This is a very enjoyable cycling trip. Don’t be put off by the ‘moderate to challenging’ label – to us it didn’t seem more strenuous than the ‘moderate’ trips we’d done before and, if you’re on e-bikes as we were, you have extra power if you need it and can still get good exercise!

The routes were interesting and enjoyable. We had good weather. It was still quite warm. We enjoyed the ferry journeys to and from the islands. The e-bikes were good and the front paniers helpful. The old towns of Hvar and Korcula are lovely and of course Dubrovnik is special.

The three hotels were fine and their breakfasts exceeded our expectations for continental hotels. We ‘upgraded’ in two of them and had a family suite one and a sea view balcony in the other.

Cycling below blue sky, next to blue sea and looking across to the island or mainland next door. Others: relaxed time exploring Korcula old town; walking the walls of Dubrovnik.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Alan was great, experienced, efficient, knowledgeable and sociable! We were a smaller than usual group, just five of us, and Alan was a great 'lubricant'. We had group dinners every other night and did our own thing in between. Great choice of restaurants and a special evening in Korcula. Good recommendations for in-between meals and where to get snacks for lunch. It was a super group and we all got on well. Lots of nice conversations.

Advice for Potential Travellers

We flew into Split on the Thursday. This gave us two nice evenings in Split which is lively, interesting and has good restaurants. On the Friday we went to nearby Trogir which is a world heritage site and another lovely old town (ferry there/ bus back). We did a guided walking tour of Split on the Saturday morning before joining the group after lunch. This gave us a slightly longer break and enabled us to see more of the highlights of the Dalmation Coast. Exodus booked the flights.

A Wonder of the world and so much more....

one of the wonders of the world done but so much more is on this trip and it changed my view of China, I’m already planning my return to see more as it only gives you a taste of what China has to offer, book it you wont regret it!!!

Most Inspirational Moment

where do I start from the awe inspiring great wall to the breath-taking terracotta army to the cute pandas and everything in-between. I loved the opera show in Chengdu with the face changing masks and stunning costumes. I loved dancing in the peoples park with the local people. the vastness of the forbidden city when viewed from above and the tasty food. seeing our leaders love for his country shines through and his English is very good you will be lucky if he is your guide.

peter was lovely it was good getting to know him and ask him questions about his life growing up and his family, I have made a friend for life in peter. he was always on time with getting us to places and giving us free time to explore on our own and getting us to places before the crowds ordering amazing food for us and looking out for the vegetarian we had on the trip too and didn't mind when we started a photo shoot with school children on the bund in shanghai.

Advice for Potential Travellers

you will love the trip its a good introduction to China - its food, culture, history and its people plus the hotels on this trip are so good too. read the trip notes as you will need a CCC power bank and don't take aerosols anywhere in China they will take them away

Amazing trip

As an Exodus Staff member i thought this was a fantastic tour that perfectly balanced nature, history, and culture. One of the highlights was the variety of experiences, from exploring fascinating cities and learning about the region’s complex past to enjoying breathtaking landscapes across the Balkans.
A particularly memorable aspect was the opportunity to enjoy home-cooked meals with local families, which provided a genuine insight into daily life. These experiences felt incredibly authentic.

Advice for Potential Travellers

One tip I'd give is to pack for a range of temperatures, especially depending on the time of year you're travelling. The tour combines Mediterranean coastal regions with higher-altitude areas inland, so the weather can vary much more than you might expect.

Cycling, swims and flamingoes

A wonderful week of cycling, with time for sea swims, sightseeing and great food.

There were plenty. I enjoyed the variety of cycling - through farm land, along by the coast; freewheeling down 10km. The stops for sea swims were special, and seeing flamingoes at the nature reserve was a highlight.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Michele was a fabulous leader. He’s experienced, knowledgeable, looks after everyone and I felt very safe on the roads with his guidance. He has a lovely gentle and fun manner, he always picked out great coffee stops and restaurant suggestions. The group was fabulous too.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Ensure a good level of fitness, there are plenty of hills (or ‘undulations’ according to Michele). Mt Etna caused Catania airport to close so it took 16hrs to get to our first hotel and was a truly shocking day. As this is the 3rd time Mt Etna has caused the airport to shut in just a few months, I felt there should have been more support. I hope there will be for future disruptions. Despite this awful journey out, the trip was wonderful and I would highly recommend going.
