A fantastic introduction to Japan

This train tour of many contrasting areas of Japan gives an excellent experience introduction to a beautiful exciting country. An excellent variety of accommodation close to transport hubs made exploring very easy.

Most Inspirational Moment

There was no single moment but it was all about the experience. The country is very different from the west but safe and friendly so easy to comfortably explore.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Quinlan was the perfect guide. Infinitely helpful and patient. Knowledgeable and energetic. Well organised and great company.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Don’t come to Japan cold. Do a little research on cultural differences, food and the language. It’ll make life much easier. Smart phones make navigating the cities easier (Japanese sims from Amazon?) and travel cards on iPhones make life easy too. You need a little cash but not loads; Most places use cards but there are a few exceptions that should be prepared for. Public transport to and from airports are easy but do your homework in advance.

Suggestions

The most disappointing aspect of this tour was the Exodus support in the UK. We were asked to provide passport copies for our JR pass; this was pointless as you need the real thing to get them and proved a lack of communication with the Japanese third party provider. Also, when requesting additional nights the prices quoted (on two occasions) were twice the price of those achievable when booking direct (a heck of a mark-up!).

Great holiday

Excellent walking over varied ground and in different environments, great accommodation and food and lovely hosts

Most Inspirational Moment

Walking in the Grazalema National park

Thoughts on Group Leader

Brilliant - shared extensive knowledge of flora and fauna worked really hard to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. Set a sensible pace for the group.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Do pack footwear suitable for some rough tracks and terrain

Essential Peru

I have enjoyed every Exodus trip I have done and this was no exception. It was a busy trip with several long travelling days in a very comfortable coach, but the journey was always broken up with numerous stops and the scenery was amazing.

Most Inspirational Moment

Machu Picchu was iconic but the highlight was watching the condors in the Colca Canyon. Awe inspiring!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Renzo was an excellent group leader, personable, professional and knowledgeable. He was always available, took us to some excellent restaurants and had a lovely sense of humour. Very much like every Exodus leader I have travelled with and there have been numerous.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Don’t be put off by the long days, this is a brilliant way to see the amazing sights in Peru.

Everything we expected

Everything worked as we expected it to (even the weather wasn’t too bad). Transfers and transportation were smooth and comfortable. The base hotel had all the amenities, had good food and was authentic Italian hospitality.

Most Inspirational Moment

Standing in the streets of Pompeii

Thoughts on Group Leader

Severio was quite knowledgeable, well-organized and easy to talk to. He kept us together without making us feel like school kid.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Bring more money and be flexible.

Suggestions

It was a great itinerary; even the G7 conference couldn't spoil Capri.

Amazing Inca Trail Experience

This adventure holiday exceeded all my expectations. Havving never travelled with Exodus before, I wasn’t sure
what to expect but organisation, tour leaders, accommodation – all were perfect. Thank you Exodus.

Most Inspirational Moment

Reaching the Sun Gate and looking down on Machu Picchu.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Amazing sums him up. Bobby (Ubaldo Bobby Quispe) was knowledgable, helpful, entertaining and brilliant! He was so supportive of me when I struggled with ascents. Rosa (assistant guide) was also awesome!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Do not hesitate to take this adventure; it is a life-changing experience.

Suggestions

i cannot really express my thanks sufficiently in this review; I have been more than delighted by this experience. I want to thank everyone - Exodus, Bobby, Rosa, the porters, the cooks. Fantastic adventure!!!

Walking on sunshine

Lovely weather. Walks seemed more difficult than other grade 2’s I’ve done

Most Inspirational Moment

Pushing myself to do the hardest walks. First walking holiday since major surgery in 2021. Good to get back into it

Thoughts on Group Leader

Very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about his country

Advice for Potential Travellers

Pace yourself for the very large meals, that seem never ending

Simply Stunning

It is difficult to sum up what was so wonderful about this holiday. We spent a week experiencing the history and people of this lovely country under the enthusiastic expert and entertaining guidance of our guide Muayad. The itinerary was packed with so much, including the stunning archaeological sites in Amman, Jerash and Petra and stayed in the camp in Wadi Rum. We also met local families who cooked national dishes for us and it was a delight to talk with them in their own homes. Every day brought new adventures and delights.

Most Inspirational Moment

Almost impossible to say, each day brought a new favourite moment.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Muayad was outstanding. He was friendly, knowledgeable, entertaining and his love for his country and it's people shone through everything he said and did.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Jordan is safe!

A packed trip full of Japanese delights

A full programme that explores Japan both ancient and modern. The kindness and civility of all the people that we met was lovely

Most Inspirational Moment

Japanese art and culture…. Many moments

Thoughts on Group Leader

Tadaoki was kind and gentle and was with us the whole trip. Kan came in halfway through and was like a magician making any problem disappear and making our wishes come true. I wanted to see some Japanese woodblock art which did not seem possible on the schedule with museums shut on a Monday but he made it possible.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The schedule is packed but there is still plenty of time for your own things. Plan these and book in advance like teamLab and the imperial palace in Tokyo. Research ways to see Mount Fuji as you still have a day with your rail card to travel for free from Tokyo

A week to get off the grid and explore Mallorca's stunning Tramuntana mountains!

My husband and I took this first departure of 2024 in the first week of April, the weather was cool but sunny and the trip was fantastic. It was our first visit to Mallorca and a great introduction to the northwestern part of the island and this mountain range. There are several small towns, or villages, that you will visit on your hikes, including Soller, Puerto Soller, Deia, Lluc and others. Several of the hikes through olive groves and orange orchards had stunning mountain and sea views and were scented with orange blossoms as we hiked through. We were on a level 3 departure, graded so for the ascents, descents and rocky paths – be prepared for the rocks and bring your hiking boots and poles. The locations of both hotels in Puerto Soller and Lluc are excellent on this trip, so unique, and Lluc in particular, is so tranquil and scenic.

Most Inspirational Moment

Hiking trails scented with orange blossoms Beautiful sea views on the coastal trails, with a little swim in a quiet cove Summiting Puig Galileu on the last day of hiking

Thoughts on Group Leader

Jacob was fantastic; funny, kind and very capable on the hikes. He was very well organized and we felt very well taken care of. It was a pleasure getting to know him during the week. Since he was a local to the area, he was extremely knowledgeable and provided insight to the culture and customs and context to the geography and history of the area. Thank you for a great week Jacob!

Advice for Potential Travellers

The dry stone path in Mallorca is very rocky, so hiking boots and poles are very recommended. Bring your refillable water bottle, at least a 1.5L, for the hikes, there are plenty of places to refill. Have a plan for your free day, the guide can point you in the right direction, but if you will go to Palma, the cathedral closes at 2pm so you will have to go in the morning. If taking the historic wooden train back to Soller from Palma on this day, you will need to book your tickets ahead.

Evia

Like most Exodus guides, Thano was excellent. However he went beyond expectations, his local knowledge was extensive (he seemed to know everyone on the island). Always approachable. The packed lunches were varied (and filling). He ordered the starters at every meal which meant that we sampled lots of local delicacies that we would otherwise have missed. Lots of little things (sampling the ouzo, beekeeper visit and so on) added to the overall enjoyment. The guided tour of Athens on the final day was a bonus. On a personal note, he spoke to a doctor on my behalf as I was suffering from an injured shoulder.

Thoughts on Group Leader

He made the holiday.
