A Marvellous Week

We enjoyed every element of this trip, from the walking in beautiful countryside, to the hotel and the food. A marvellous week.

Most Inspirational Moment

All the walks were inspirational, with exceptional views, plus flowers and wildlife aplenty.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Alvaro was a very cheerful, knowledgeable and competent guide whose enthusiasm was infectious. He cleverly changed the programme to fit the weather, so we did a gorge walk when the cloud could have hampered higher walks, and we walked above the cloud on the final day. We enjoyed his company and leadership very much.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The moderate rating seems entirely accurate. We finished each day tired but fulfilled.

My first Exodus experience

A lovely country, great guide and crew always willing to help. IMHO Wrong bike choice for terrain although they were reliable and maintained MTB were def wrong choice. Be prepared for hot weather. Not sure if there is scope for two tours a north and south so you cut out the overnight train and some of the bus journeys which were up to 3+ hours long. “On the road” supplies were good and plentiful.

Most Inspirational Moment

Visit to Cu Chi. Cave in Halong Bay. Use of family businesses.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Knowledgeable, approachable and never to busy to help. Dhan was a gem.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Watch out for the heat. Having said that our guide altered rest stops etc to acc that.

Chianti Walking Tour

Really enjoyed the week. It was a good mix of walking and wine tasteing with the bonus of old cities and great views of the Tuscan countryside.

Most Inspirational Moment

Enjoyed the day in Sienna and the wine school trip. We are concious now of twirling our wine glass and looking for "tears".

Thoughts on Group Leader

A really nice woman, easy to get along with, good communicator and fun.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you enjoy walking about 10kms a day, then you will enjoy this trip.

High Inca Trail - Salcantay

This was an amazing trip that was everything I hoped it would be and more. The scenery was amazing, the guides and porters were fabulous and someone organised perfect weather. Every detail was perfectly organised, and any hiccups were quickly smoothed. From pre-trip support from exodus, through to the day to day experience of the trek I can’t say enough good things.

Most Inspirational Moment

Talking to our guide, Wilbert Ramos, about his experiences and relationship with his country and, of course, coming through the Sun Gate at Manchu Picchu. There were inspirational moments every day, but these two stand out.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Wilbert was fantastic. He brought Peru and Incas alive through his passion for people, his knowledge of his country and its history and his genuine desire to ensure that everyone on the trek, from tourists to porters were looked after and had a good experience. I've been on a number of treks and his skills as a mountain leader and guide were some of the best I've ever seen.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Make sure you build up a good level of fitness before you go - you don't need to be able to run a marathon, but the fitter you are the more you'll enjoy it. Be open minded and mindful. Take the time just to sit out and enjoy where you are and what you are doing.

Room allocation policy

This review is purely to do with the room allocation policy for this trip which is not transparent. The later you book the more likely you are to have a rubbish room. We booked in Jan for May trip and were allocated a room in the eves. Some rooms have baths, showers and balconies, our room had a shower (in very small shower room) and sloping roof. The room was very small and would not be suitable for elderly guests. One of the older guests on our trip hit his head twice resulting in quite significant gashes. The price for these rooms should be cheaper as there is no way they are as good as some of the others.

As with any traditional alpine chalet, rooms do vary in shape and sometimes size and we were really sorry to learn that Martha was disappointed with the room she was allocated. At the Chalet Chamonix there are seven bedrooms and of the five rooms on the second floor two have partially sloping roofs as well as the main part of the room which is full height. Both rooms also have a large Velux window and smaller side window to ensure they are light and airy. All the rooms in the chalet are of a similar size. Some rooms have baths and others have showers but we believe overall all rooms provide a comparable level of comfort. While some rooms make better doubles and others twins we believe that the fairest way of allocating rooms is to give those with larger windows to clients who booked first. Outside of the rooms the Chalet boasts a large and comfortable living room with a joining spacious balcony furnished with tables and chairs as well as a large grassy garden with decking and hot tub. When not walking most of our clients choose to relax in these comfortable communal areas all if which have a superb view of Mont Blanc.

Sicilian Volcanoes

This trip is a “once in a lifetime” experience. You can see and feel the energy of the sea and the active volcanoes. Add the food and wine experience. It becomes the perfect combination of challenge and pleasure. Je n’oublierai jamais ce voyage qui m’a permis de voir des volcans en action tout en profitant de l’Italie a son meilleur.

Most Inspirational Moment

Waiting almost an hour, in the fog, on the top of the Stromboli. It finally, like a miracle, lifted in a few seconds so we were able to see the fire, the fumes, the volcano alive, in action. And then, after, walking and running back in the ashes with our head light on, an unusual experience that made me feel lucky to be one of the 80 persons allowed on the crater that evening. I have to admit, I fell in love with...the Stromboli and would have stayed longer.

Thoughts on Group Leader

We had a great athlete, Giusseppe (PEPE), who was able to adapt his pace to everyone, who knows everybody in each location and who could find us the best local guides for each trekking. He is Sicilian and loves his island. He accompanied us on our free day on Salina. He also was of great help in getting my luggage lost by the air flight company during 4 days. Et il parlait francais. Merci PÉPÉ!

Advice for Potential Travellers

The gathers, long or short are a must for the Stromboli and the Etna. And if you know how to ride a scooter, take the day on that island. The roads are hilly and winding but, the experience is worthwhile.

Beautiful country with stunning wildlife!

If you want to see wildlife then this is the country to visit, you will not be disappointed! The weather is warm pretty much everywhere except at altitude (but nothing us Brits can’t handle), very laid back itinerary with plenty of free time to work on that tan. The hotels and lodges are of a very high quality, as is the food, we were spoilt with all the fresh tropical fruit on offer!

Most Inspirational Moment

Any time I saw (or heard) a Howler monkey, what a fabulous alarm clock! Also for a top notch day out Manuel Antonio National Park is unbeatable, gorgeous beaches and trails for miles. If you hadn't already seen all the animals on your bingo card, you will catch them all here.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Andres - he knew a lot of species of animals off by heart, particularly birds, which was quite impressive. However he seemed otherwise lacking in enthusiasm and not particularly sociable at mealtimes, which was disappointing. The group however were full of beans and more than made up this!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take an umbrella! It will rain, you can't avoid it, but waterproof jacket did not help me much, you can at least take pictures under your umbrella. The tap water is perfectly drinkable, but if you do find yourself feeling unwell, it's a good idea to switch to bottles for a bit. Make sure you pack plenty of changes or clothes, or be prepared to launder them on the way. The humidity makes it hard to dry things. Take advantage of the luxury optionals on offer, The Ecothermals hot springs at Arenal is wonderful, as is the spa at Savegre.

peru may 2015

Excellent trip.weather hot, cold, freezing.food very good.,and reasonably cheap.use sols not dollars.in a trail terrific.camping very good.porters and cooks great.a Hugh tarantula came into the tent during the night.sacred valley the most scenic.lake titicaca and floating islands great.

Most Inspirational Moment

Coming down from inca trail to machu pichu.

Thoughts on Group Leader

I have been on 12 exodus trips and to as rates one of the best.has been guide for 10 years and is still totally enthusiastic.nothing was a bother .terrific organiser.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Lots of walking on this holiday, lots of stone steps.the amazon basin is pretty basic accommodation. Rather squelchy and wet under foot in the forest, but we'll worth it.

A feast for all the senses

Vietnam – you see it, feel it, smell it, taste it and hear it when you pedal a bike from south to North, Saigon to Hanoi

I took the Cambodia extension at the start of my trip and found that it was an ideal way to adjust to the heat, food and time difference ahead of starting the cycling. It was also an amazing introduction to a fascinating country and I would love to go back and visit again.

Tran Phu

Most Inspirational Moment

Through manic cities, busy towns and quiet rural backwaters, up into the Highlands, through a mountain pass, along the coast, down amongst the coral reef and paddling through limestone karst. These two weeks in Vietnam have truly been a delight. Young and old shouting 'hello' as you peddle through, waving and high fiveing as you pass by. A cheerful wave, a nod of the head, a gracious smile - we couldn't have wished for a better welcome. Always a traveller, never a tourist

Thoughts on Group Leader

Lâm was just brilliant. Always cheerful with a great sense of humour, a mine of information about all things Vietnamese, always ready to pull over for (yet) another photo opportunity, totally organised and with a great support team of mechanic and drivers. Lâm took the stress out of constantly being on the move, allowing us to just get on and enjoy the adventure. His local knowledge and pride in his country meant we could experience the 'real' Vietnam and fall in love with a facinating country.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Just go! Take two or three sets of cycle gear, there's opportunity to have it washed en route (very inexpensive), your own saddle is a great bonus and I am glad I took my own clipless peddles and shoes. As I use a compact DSLR I found a bar bag ideal as it kept it safe but accessible. I also took my bike computer, just because I like to know my speed and how far I have actually cycled! To get the most out of the cycling do prepare for this trip. You will be very active and there are some very early morning starts! I am a regular cyclist and also do Pilates and yoga so found the daily mileage very comfortable and I could relax and enjoy myself without becoming anxious at the distances covered.

Walking Amalfi coast

Just back from a very enjoyable trip : walking the Amalfi Coast .
The hotel was lovely, excellent food and lovely welcoming staff.
The guide ( Thomas Gorblick) was very helpful , sociable and sensitive to our needs.
It was a good mixture of walking and culture,
Would thoroughly recommend it.m

Most Inspirational Moment

Visit to Pompei and nature reserve .

Thoughts on Group Leader

Thomas Gorblick was excellent. He was very friendly and sensitive to our needs. He helped to make the trip a memorable one.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared to walk in the heat and down a lot of steps.
