Highlights of the Dolomites

Superb walking surrounded by weirdly beautiful, jaggedy peaks, with alpine meadows, terrific views, snowfields, bare-rock scrambles, ridge walks, mountain streams, well-stocked, picturesque Rifugios, steep, steep ascents and descents, cable cars, woods, valleys and a truly astonishing number and variety of wildflowers. It is a hard-working holiday but the rewards far outweigh the effort involved.

Most Inspirational Moment

On the final day, after an extremely steep climb, celebrating at the top of a pass with fantastic views. Finally getting a good look at marmots that we'd heard alarm-calling all week. Floating silently down a mountain in a chair lift - magical! Often, if we stopped and looked back, we could see our impressive path for miles behind. We regularly felt a sense of real pride as we realised what we had achieved.

Thoughts on Group Leader

We did not walk with Lizz's group, but she was extremely helpful, friendly and organised regarding other aspects of the holiday. We have had Albert as Group Leader on a previous trip (Espedalen, cross-country skiing) and we were delighted to discover that he was leading us again. His laid-back style engenders a really nice atmosphere in a group and he has the knack of making you work just hard enough to feel achievement without feeling pushed too hard. His selection of routes was surprisingly varied and we would love to have him leading us on future trips.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take walking poles. There were lots of long, steep descents and poles really help take the strain off knees. Take a backpack hydration system. It can be hot, hard work and regular sips of water as you go along are much better than waiting until the stops and then drinking loads. Prepare for the holiday by improving your fitness as much as you can.

Highlights of the Dolomites

This is the best hiking that we’ve done for mountain views and terrain. Using ski lifts gives more time up there, and the “oh wow” feeling quickly removed the temporary thought that we hadn’t earned it. The weather more than cooperated.

Most Inspirational Moment

Dolomites !!!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Both Eric and Albert were great.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The June trip offered a daily choice between levels 3 and 5 walks. I'm a level 5 at going up, level 3 going down. By listening to the next day's routes I was able to make a reasonable choice on which one was suitable for me. First time I used poles - they helped me and my knees down.

Highlights of the Dolomites

WOW. Magnificent stunning scenery. Mountain peaks to die for and very pretty traditional towns and villages along the way. An area certainly worth spending time in. It was a wonderful experience to be with a lovely group of equally appreciative and friendly fellow walkers and to enjoy it all in their company.

Most Inspirational Moment

To realise that I could still climb and walk a ridge and also do a small grade (not dangerous enough to be clipped on but thrilling nevertheless) via ferrata. I may be aging but I am no dinosaur just yet !!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Eric had confidence in me...............so I had confidence in me. I thank him for the help and tips he gave me along the way.

Highlights of the Dolomites

Yet another superb Exodus holiday. This was my 7th trip in the past 7 years and once again it was excellent. The group were all great company & great fun to be with, the walks were stunning and the leaders were superb.

Most Inspirational Moment

There were a number! The main highlight for myself was the Via Ferrata walk which a small group of us did on the free day. Easily the most thrilling walking/mountaineering experience of my life! Another highlight was the final walk on the Friday with a spectacular ridge and equally spectacular views. Also climbing to the highest altitude I've ever been to(just under 10,000 feet) was pretty special(done by cable car!)

Thoughts on Group Leader

Both Eric & Emily were brilliant leaders. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they contributed massively to my overall enjoyment of the trip. Both had a great sense of humour and they were incredibly experienced. The fact they gave up their day off on the Wednesday to take us on the amazing Via Ferrata walk summed them up perfectly. It's obvious that they both love what they do as they have such enthusiasm. Thanks guys.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Make sure your walking fitness is good prior to departure. Also, be prepared for all weather conditions. We had a couple of very heavy showers on a couple of the walks. Walking poles are a definite advantage if you have them. Apart from that just go and enjoy a superb holiday!

Great holiday in the Dolomites

This is a really lovely trip offering walks of different grades in the stunning landscape of the Dolomites. Throw in a cosy hotel, good food, a few cold beers, and a group of like-minded companions and you really have a fantastic holiday for anyone with a decent level of fitness.

Most Inspirational Moment

Walking along a ridge on a sunny day with nothing to worry about except what I would have for my lunch!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Eric and Emily were fantastic. They really did their utmost to make sure we all had a wonderful experience and it worked!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Make sure you are reasonably fit because you will enjoy it all the more if you are.

Highlights of the Dolomites

This was a most outstanding trip, with excellent walks of grade 5. The scenery was magical, the Dolomites being very different to many mountain ranges I have previously walked in. The transport of both buses and ski lifts to the start points worked perfectly. It is an area I would highly recommend for its history and breathtaking ups and downs!

Most Inspirational Moment

All the walks exceeded my expectations, including the scrambles and climbs.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Emily and Eric were brilliant and looked after us well, chosing the walks to fit the group.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Have no hesitation to book but come out fit, you'll enjoy the walking all the more.

Highlights of the Dolomites

You really have to go on this trip! The scenery is amazing with a mixture of dramatic mountains and green hills. Lovely family run hotel with very high class rooms and food. Great leaders (Emily and Eric) who are very experienced and helpful and really want you to have a great holiday.

Most Inspirational Moment

The Dolomites scenery is stunning with mountains with spiky peaks - very unusual. Very green parts too.

Thoughts on Group Leader

The leaders (Eric and Emily) gave me great confidence and both of them treated you as an individual, and really wanted you to have the best holiday ever! Both were very kind.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take good boots, poles and some warm clothes.

Highlights of the Dolomites

Beautiful jagged mountains. Great guides. Good companions. Excellent weather.

Most Inspirational Moment

The ridge walk on the last day with a powdering of snow

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent

Advice for Potential Travellers

Just do it

Highlights of Dolomites

I was worried about sharing a room with a stranger but am so glad I did. The company of 17 like minded people from all walks of life was remarkably good. I would like to go back to the Dolomites earlier in the summer when these stunning mountains could be seen in sunshine. The hotel room was comfortable and the food was excellent. I liked being able to choose between the 2 levels of walks and appreciated the care from the 2 excellent leaders.

Most Inspirational Moment

The last day when I joined the more advanced group and saw the amazing views as I made it across ridge.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Both Eric and Emily went out of their way to make the holiday as good as it could be. We had a bad start with the delayed flight then the accident when one of the group slipped and broke his leg. On top of these events, the weather was disappointing. Thanks to their care and attention the group overcame these difficulties and managed to have a really great holiday.

Advice for Potential Travellers

It can be cold on the high mountains so bring a warm hat, ski type gloves and clothes to layer up as required.

WALKING IN THE WESTERN DOLOMITES

I loved this trip – perfect combination of brilliant leaders (Albert & Eric), superb hiking, spectacular scenery and great company. I chose this over the Classic Dolomites since I don’t have a great head for heights but from what I saw and heard while I was there the Western Dolomites trip has the definite edge. One to put on your bucket list!

Most Inspirational Moment

360 degree views nearly all day every day. The Via Ferrata trip Eric offered on our (and in theory, his) day off - given my poor head for heights it says something for the confidence I had in him (and support from the rest of the group) that I decided to give it a go. I was really glad I did, we had a brilliant day.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Albert & Eric were superb, can't praise or thank them enough. They were also wonderful company and a mine of information about the area and people. I can see myself choosing future trips on the basis of which ones they are leading!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Don't be put off by the sense from the website that this is the poor relation to the Classic Dolomites - it's anything but that! Quite the contrary I'd say. And don't decide on the basis of the comments about the hotel or food. Hotel Laurino was a really nice place to stay - it was great being in a town and being able to go for a stroll or drink in the evening, the rooms were lovely and impeccably clean, the staff were super and nothing was too much trouble. I agree with the reviews about the food - it's pretty average and a bit bland but the location, facilities and staff more than compensated. And there was buckets of food so it certainly wasn't a case of going hungry. Anyway save space for mid-morning and lunch at the refuges - they were fantastic.
