A WEEK IN JORDAN

The pre-holiday documentation and bookings were not of excellent quality, but the holiday itself was fantastic. The Dead Sea, Wadi Rum and Petra were excellent. Our guide gave us the right amount of time in each.

Most Inspirational Moment

The most insprirational part was the two and a half days in Petra. The skill and industry of the people who built it at around 100 B.C. was mind blowing.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our tour leader was excellent. He had the knowledge to describe each and every site at the right level f detail for me, but had a wealth of background knowledge, so he could answer virtually all questions. He knew how much free time to give the group at each site. He also had humour. When it was a fellow traveller's birthday, he stopped the coach at a local garage and bought cakes and squash for us all to celebrate it.

Advice for Potential Travellers

We spent less than £25 per person per day on average. Our tour guide directed us to good quality local supplers of cooked and fresh food if we needed to buy lunches.

Most Inspirational Moment

Wadi Rum and Petra are two amazing places. We just fall in love and hope to be back there soon:* 2 days in Petra is a great idea - on the first day you learn what is where and you can spend the second day enjoying it! * Wadi Rum is great! It was more "Wadi Rum experience" than a real desert adventure, but this is what I expected from this trip. We are going to do Wadi Rum Adventure next time :-)

Thoughts on Group Leader

What I like about Exodus is that they are using local team leaders.Our team leader was great - very knowledgeable and approachable. Our group was not an easy one, but IMHO he did a great job. Also he definitely became more than just a team leader - he became a friend. Highly recommended!Regarding food: we always went with his recommendations and we were never disappointed! Comment to Exodus: you should make it all inclusive trip, as discussions over where to eat can split the group - I felt sorry for the team leader as some people on the trip were thinking that he is dishonest with them when it comes to recommendations.

A WEEK IN JORDAN

A great holiday, fitting many of the highlights of Jordan into just one week. It was a compact trip, but full of different experiences, historic sites, contrasts and people. I would highly recommend this holiday, its a great value.

Most Inspirational Moment

The highlight of the trip was Petra. There are no words that can explain it. The two climbs to Ed Deir ( Monastary) and Attuf Ridge ( The High Place of Sacrifice) was an amazing experience. Second was sleeping under the stars with the Beduins in the Barrh camp in Siq Umm Tawaqi in Wadi Rum, after a camel ride earlier in the day, Lawrance of Arabia style!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Danny our group leader was superb, extremely knowledgable, a lot of fun to be with, also was a very serious when it came about his job, we had a great group, most of us were teachers, he could keep up with all of us in a very professional manner, inspired all of us with his deep passion, wisdom stories, explanations, going for extra miles to ensure everyone had a great time, nothing was too much trouble for him, all girls in our group thought of him as a great ambassador to his country, and made all of us fall in love with Jordanian people, I think he is one of the best guides I have ever seen in my life, period !

Advice for Potential Travellers

Wadi Rum – I warmly suggest to bring your own sleeping bag, even though, they will provide you with one at the camp if you don't have, but I personally felt uncomfortable using one that has been used by different people previously.

A WEEK IN JORDAN

The Jordanian people are wonderful – no hard sell, just courtesy and polite enquiry. Amman, Jerash, the Dead Sea, the Desert, and snorkling over a coral ‘garden’ in the Red Sea are all memorable and superb, but what makes Jordan a number one, must visit, must see destination is Petra – absolutely awe inspiring.

Most Inspirational Moment

Trekking on the second day with the local guide behind Petra and then making our way down into Petra from on high; the usual route is not to be missed, but the views on the second day were exceptional - think Utah's Canyonlands with temples and tombs.

Thoughts on Group Leader

He was interested and interesting, for he displayed courtesy and expertise throughout and his local knowledge was invaluable. In short he took good care of us and was good company.

A WEEK IN JORDAN

A brilliant but hectic week travelling around a truly fascinating country. Although principally a "sightseeing" tour, you’ll need to have your walking legs on for Petra and your camping head on for the Wadi Rum! I had an awesome time and made some lovely new friends but you never know what kind of group you’re going to get so it definitely pays to have a laid back approach to life! The weather was starting to get very hot when we were there in April so I wouldn’t recommend visiting Jordan (or anywhere in the Middle East) much later on in the year as the weather would be unbearable.

Most Inspirational Moment

My two stand out moments were fairly predictable but no less enjoyable because of that: - walking down the Siq at Petra and catching my first glimpse of the breathtakingly beautiful Treasury; and- sleeping under the stars in Wadi Rum and watching the moon make its way across the night sky.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader was great - smart, extremely well informed, kind, helpful and endlessly patient. If anything, he gave us a bit too much information and could have perhaps shortened and/or simplified some of the explanations that he gave us. I think he may have assumed a bit too much prior knowledge on the part of the group!

Advice for Potential Travellers

A week is long enough to see the key sights of Jordan but it's still a pretty hectic itinerary. So don't be expecting long lie-ins or anything! Highlights for me were Petra (of course) and the majestic Wadi Rum. You'll get most out of Petra if you have a reasonable level of fitness as it's a vast site to cover and many of the best trails and viewpoints requires some (fairly tough) climbing. It can also get blisteringly hot, even when we were there in April, so be sure to wear heaps of sunscreen and a hat. And drink plenty of water. As long as you're prepared for fairly basic conditions in the desert, you'll have a great time at Wadi Rum. And the food we had there was absolutely delicious! It would have been nice to have a bit longer in Aqaba (Red Sea) after the rigours of the desert but there wasn't time in the itinerary for that. I can highly recommend the boat trip in Aqaba. We had the entire boat to ourselves (there were only about 10 of us) and both the snorkelling and the lunch they fed us were brilliant. Judging by what those who didn't come on the boat told us, it was definitely the best thing to do in Aqaba. Amman was a bit of a disappointment ie, a mostly modern city with very few sights of historical interest, but that's fine as it was mostly just a starting and finishing point for the trip.

A WEEK IN JORDAN

A fantastic week with a great group. Although Petra was the highlight, Wadi Rum came a close second. Having two full days to explore Petra was just right, and although I wasn’t sure about my first sight of the Treasury being by candlelight after a long day of travelling and swimming in the Dead Sea, with hindsight I’m glad we did it that way round. I certainly wouldn’t have been up to another walk up and down the Siq on the final evening after two hard days of walking and climbing. I particularly liked the way we were given a very informative guided tour of each attraction and then allowed plenty of time to explore by ourselves.The Jordanian people were particularly welcoming and friendly.

Most Inspirational Moment

That first glimpse of the Treasury from the Siq at Petra has to be my first choice, but the vast silence of Wadi Rum cmes a close second.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Khaled is a wonderful leader. Nothing was too much trouble, and his considerable knowledge combined with unfailing good humour ensured we never suffered from information overload. He was always there to answer the million questions we threw at him, and was equally willing to help with problems and queries beyond what I would expect from a holiday guide. A truly inspirational leader.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Collect small change in coins at every opportunity. There are lavatory attendants at all tourist attractions (many handing out loo paper to each individual customer) who expect to be tipped. Calls of nature can become expensive when you have to hand out a 1 dinar note, roughly the equivelant of £1 each time you only want to spend a penny. Take flipflops or crocs for the Dead Sea -- the sand is very sharp and crunchy, even under water. Check the weather forecast for Jordan before final packing. I left a warm and sunny London in early March to find snow piled in the streets of Amman. It was unusual weather for the time of year, but luckily, I had warm and waterproof clothing. Three days later, we were swimming in the warm waters of the Dead Sea and sunbathing on the beach.

this trip was absolutely amazing, the whole week was packed with sights sounds and amazing experiences, we had a fantastic group and although the weather wasn’t quite what I was exepcting it didn’t deter from the pleaseure.

Advice for Potential Travellers

GO, jordans tourism is suffering due to the arab spring, however I had a wonderful time and at no point did I feel unsafe.

A well planned week to make the most of the time we had in Jordan to do & see as much as possible. A great guide who looked after us all brilliantly. Good variety & great fun.

A WEEK IN JORDAN

A busy week’s sightseeing, taking in all the highlights of Jordan. A full itinerary, but still plenty oftime for people wanting to chill out as well as taking in all the sights.

Most Inspirational Moment

The most inspiration moment was seeing just how huge the Petra sight was, we think of it as just the Treasury, it is so much more had to be seen to be believed. The Dead Sea, the Red Sea, Crusader Forts, camels and donkey rides. Just so much it was an incredible adventure.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Khalid was informative, interesting, and hilarious in equal measure. He created quite a splash with the locals wherever we went, being personally known to almost everyone everywhere we stopped - including the boat crew. What they don't tell you in the brochure is that every tour involving American, English or Aussie tourists must - by order of the Jordanian government - be accompanied by a tourist policeman. Our policeman was a lovely guy who joined in with the tour when we got the the bedoun camp dancing around the fire with us.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Just do it, you will never regret it.

Most Inspirational Moment

Walking down the siq for our first glimpse of The Treasury for the Petra by candlelight evening.Exploring Petra, especially the 'adventure hike' we did to the high places above The Treasury.The night spent at Wadi Rum and seeing the amazing starlit sky.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Dani was just brilliant. He truly loved his country and was very knowledgeable. He was fun to be with and looked after us all very well. He was caring and considerate.

Advice for Potential Travellers

As we went in February and north Jordan had snow, I would suggest plenty of layers with more warm clothes than you might expect to pack. Take a good sleeping bag for the night in Wadi Rum. Comfy walking shoes/boots essential.
