India Photographic Trip departing 1st May to Bandhavgarh

Another amazing tiger trip – this was my 6th tiger trip with Exodus (5th with Paul) – and they just keep getting better and better. We had some quality sightings and some unusual behaviours seen – like a mock-charge and a territorial battle between 2 males – which I had not seen before. The 2 full days in the Park were great and a plus, though it was hot (and we did have a big thunderstorm too – unusual for this time of year!). I love Bandhavgarh, the Lodge is lovely and I also enjoy meeting up with the people I now know as friends there.

Most Inspirational Moment

Watching the territorial battle from it's start - when we didn't even realise what was going to happen and to watch it reach the climax was special

Thoughts on Group Leader

Paul is great - he give 110% all the time - I've been travelling with him now since 2008 and his passion, energy and enthusiasm hasn't dimmed, though he might have mellowed just a bit :-) . A mention too for Himanshu Bagde - he works so well, keeping things going in the background!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for the very hot weather - drink loads of water, take rehydration tablets with you and use them. Enjoy every moment

Albania tour

A wonderful full on tour visiting a vast array of varied cities, countryside, coastal locations and historical sites. Our guide Amir was excellent. He was very personable and knowledgeable, we learnt so much about the people, culture and history of this fascinating country. Also our driver, Gani, deserves a mention for his incredible driving along the winding hilltop roads, allowing us to relax and enjoy the amazing scenery. Thank you to you both

Most Inspirational Moment

Experiencing the friendliness, kindness and generosity of the Albanian people

Thoughts on Group Leader

Amir displayed an excellent knowledge of the country both past and present. He was very approachable and his answers to the many questions were always answered in a clear and understandable way

Advice for Potential Travellers

This was a very full on tour which allowed us to get the very best experience of this wonderful country. Be prepared for full days and a different hotel most nights, but well worth it

First Exodus Travels adventure - not the last!

This trip was an excellent introduction to Exodus travel itineraries, and to southern Spain.

Most Inspirational Moment

Finally getting to the top of a long hill and being encouraged with a "well done"! The hikes were challenging but the pace made them very doable.

Thoughts on Group Leader

There are not enough superlatives to describe Michael, our guide for the week I was in Andalucia. His knowledge of the area, the flora and fauna, food, terrain, and his wonderful sense of humor made for a fantastic trip. Michael would stop often while on our hikes to share interesting tidbits about something growing on the side of the road, or a bird, or just to remind everyone to drink lots of water to stay hydrated. He really goes above and beyond to ensure everyone is safe and having a great time, and he is so patient!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take hiking poles if you are used to using them. I did not take any and did not miss them, nor need them. If traveling solo and the single room is available, book it. I was very fortunate and had a great roommate but wish i had a room to myself.

Walking in Sardinia

This was an excellent holiday. It is set in a good location with testing but not too strenuous walks. There is considerable variety to the walks – from walking on cliffs, hills etc to walking in a gorge. There are often stunning sea views. The location is also set in an area of significant archeological importance and it was interesting to hear about the history of the area.

Most Inspirational Moment

Witnessing the way the group leader was able to help members of the group to improve their confidence on walking on tricky terrain. Excellent wine tasting - the best I have experienced on an Exodus holiday (and there have been a few)

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent. Knowledgeable about the area. Attentive to all members of the group - didn't seem to have particular favourites. Ensured that we were able to carry out our walking safely. Was able to re-organise the order of the planned activities to cater for inclement weather which would have made one of the walks impossible on the originally scheduled day. Enthusiastic about selling the virtues of walking and cycling holidays.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Well worth a go. This is an excellent holiday in a less well known location. There is a good variety to the walks and generally nice scenery.

Well organised, challenging, beautiful.

A challenging first few days over Salkantay pass etc., then a simply beautiful second third as we descend to the Sun Gate and into Machu Picchu itself, then a very relaxing few days sightseeing several amazing towns (Ollantaytambo and Pisac in particular – we only had an hour in Pisac and I’d’ve liked to stay there for an afternoon). The porters on the trip are amazing of course, but the cook was a genius! The most delicious trout in quinoa one night and cooked in a mess tent over a single gas stove…

Thoughts on Group Leader

Bobby was a fount of knowledge on plants and history every step of the way.

Advice for Potential Travellers

It's can be a lot colder in the hills at night than you expect. Have a very warm sleeping bag and keep a dry underlayer at least for sleeping in.

Picos de Europa,Spain

Lovely week walking in the Picos with our great guide Luis.Very friendly family run hotel.Great food.

Most Inspirational Moment

The second day, warm and sunny with fantastic views from a summit for miles around

Thoughts on Group Leader

Great leader, young, very enthusiastic, extremely knowledgeable about nature- all the flowers, trees, birds etc .Very unassuming and mature for his age

Advice for Potential Travellers

Even in early may take warm coat, gloves, hat etc as one day in the mountains it was almost a blizzard and 3 degrees

Privileged to be first Exodus guests in this fascinating country.

This trip was memorable for so many reasons not the least because of the warm welcome the group received from our local Saudi guides and by the families that we encountered. The landscape was much more varied than I expected; desert, mountains, oceans, camels, ancient rocks and caves revealing historic art as well as culture in the form of mosques, museums and sculptures in the cities. The temperature (in early May) was not oppressive, as humidity is low and there is ample opportunity to seek shade. We were the first Exodus group to embark on this trip. The visit changed many of my preconceptions of life in Saudi Arabia and, because of the genuinely warm welcome and an increasing understanding of the culture, it felt natural to dress modestly and enjoy fruit juices instead of wine. I left the country feeling that I had been among friends and would therefore not hesitate to recommend it to others.

Most Inspirational Moment

The 4x4 journey into the Sheda Mountains (after the visit to the marble village of Dee Ann), the stunning caves, rocks and vistas at the Cave Resort, where the warm welcome and sharing of coffee and dates as we perched at the “edge of the world” added to an unforgettable experience. A guided exploration of the caves on foot was a taxing but thrilling adventure. Close behind this day and also inspirational, was the majestic “Elephant Rock” bathed in evening sunlight shared with Arabic families enjoying a relaxed day out; the Nabataean Tombs at Jabal Alhambra; the Holy mosque at Medina; the sand dunes at the Yellow Lake and ….. attending (unexpectedly) a Saudi wedding celebration!!

Thoughts on Group Leader

It took a couple of days for us to “gel” as a group with our leader. Once he absorbed the fact that the group wanted more from him than just to get us from A to B safely, he made an effort to give us more information in advance; this included timings and plan of each day, a cultural ‘snapshot’ of the next destination, a selection of places to eat (though his knowledge of this was a little sketchy). We soon got into our mutual routine and found him punctual, efficient, willing to answer questions and helpful and attentive with unexpected hitches. He formed excellent relationships with the local Arab guides and facilitated their interaction with the group. There were one or two in the group that were a bit vocal and at times, over-demanding …. I think he found it difficult to stay patient under “attack” and these occasional confrontations were uncomfortable for all of us.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Accept that the advice to wear loose, comfortable clothes is important, not just to fit in with the culture of host country, but also because it simplifies packing and is just what you need in the hot climate! Make sure you have a good supply of nutritious snacks for the middle of the day hunger pangs; there are some long journeys (necessary to cover the many areas you wouldn’t want to miss) and stops are usually when refuelling the coach, when the available source of food is a small garage supermarket. Water is readily available. Don’t expect to swim, there are few opportunities to do so in public and time at the hotels that might have a pool is tight! Learn how to say please and thank you in Arabic; it is always appreciated. If you are, like me, absent-minded at times, be wary about taking small, valuable things on this trip. If you leave something in these remote desert resorts, your chance of getting a response is slim. I don’t think the machinery is yet in place to negotiate return of lost items.

A good leader makes or breaks a great trip

We loved experiencing all the Classical sites on this tour of Greece. As others have mentioned, an extra night in Pylos would have been welcome, plus a visit to Nestor’s palace. We would also have loved to have seen the whole of the Delphi site. What made the whole group experience such a delight was our guide, Stefania. With a background in archaeology and art history, she brought the whole thing to life, as well as handling all the practical details so effectively. The driver was great too. Hotels and restaurants variable, as you would expect across a range of places, but overall good with friendly people. A thoroughly enjoyable trip with many Classical highlights to enjoy.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent. Stefania is a great asset: highly skilled, cheerful and a thoroughly professional guide.

Challenging climbs with amazing scenic views

A fantastic itinerary through four Balkan countries, all offering scenic views, good cycling , excellent food and just enough historic places of interest. Challenging cycling climbs rewarded with spectacular long descents.

Most Inspirational Moment

The ride through the Tara Canyon reaching the famous Tara Bridge. Endless fantastic photo opportunities.

Thoughts on Group Leader

What an excellent guide Dhimo was. Professional, helpful, knowledgeable, choosing good routes and pointing out places of interest. In depth knowledge of the region culture, language and currencies. Fantastic help choosing unique restaurants, ordering appropriate local tasty dishes and organising an easy method to pay all the individual bills. Complete empathy with all group members. Good sense of humour. A really good guide and companion who I would like to consider a new friend. Of note Viz, the driver also contributed significantly to the success of this tour.

Advice for Potential Travellers

You need to be quite fit but if you are, you will struggle to find better views on any tour. End of April / early May was a good time to visit. All countries were safe and culturally interesting. I have been on several Exodus cycling holidays and this is one of the best.

ADE: Puglia: Discover the Heel of Italy

Beautiful landscapes, amazing food and wine, incredible architecture!

Most Inspirational Moment

Olive oil tasting on a historical family-owned masseria with 2000-year-old olive trees, followed by an amazing lunch at another beautiful masseria. Matera is so unique and beautiful and the hospitality and comfort at the trulli in Alberobello were top notch too! Otranto for a beach day and the architecture in Lecce is incredible.

Thoughts on Group Leader

In Matera and Lecce we had local guides who made the cities come alive. Our trip leader throughout was able to give us a great introduction to Italian culture and made us feel right at home.

Advice for Potential Travellers

This was my first trip to Italy and it was perfect! We went mid-April, my sister and I flew into Milan for a few nights and then down to Bari to meet the group at the airport for Discover the Heel Italy. In spring, before it becomes a summer vacation destination for Italians, Puglia feels off the beaten path and you get the historical sites and beach towns all to yourself! Wear comfortable walking shoes and take waterproofs if rain is in the forecast so you can stay out all day. There is a lot of free time on the trip, so take advantage of the opportunity to wander around and discover on your own. There’s something for every diet, but the bread and cheese is incredible, and the vegetables are super fresh.
