Depending on which area you visit, the weather can vary but during the summer months, you’ll usually enjoy long, sunny days with warm temperatures. On our self-guided cycling holidays in France, you’ll ride among stunning scenery at your own pace following GPS routes, stopping off at charming villages and towns to experience the local culture and cuisine.

How long are your cycling trips in France?

How long do you want to be in the saddle? Our cycling tours in France run from four to nine days including flights, with a mix of leisurely routes to lay back on and trickier options to put your legs to the test. You could spend four days climbing one of the Tour de France’s iconic mountains, or double that time gently pedalling through the villages and vineyards of Burgundy.

Are your cycling trips in France guided?

The majority of our fantastic cycling holidays in France are self-guided, giving you the freedom to step on and off as you wish with our detailed route notes in hand. We’ll still arrange for your luggage transfers if you’re moving from base to base.

When is the best time to go cycling in France?

On the whole, France enjoys good weather conditions from April to October. To avoid the crowds, cycling in France is best on either side of July and August as this is peak season, and also the temperatures can rise considerably in the south, making riding conditions uncomfortable.

Very well organised with two incredibly knowledgeable guides. The Eco lodge at Sungabala was sublime. Max and Rea (the guides) could not have been any more helpful and accommodating to our needs. The cycling itself was tough at times but immensely rewarding; to get the sense of being closer to the wilds rather than viewing from a car window.

This was our third cycling trip with Exodus & it didn’t disappoint. Albania is a stunning country but also very mountainous so a good level of cycling fitness is necessary although there is always the option of an e bike. The scenery is incredible & the local people really friendly- they would often wave & cheer us on as we panted up the hills! We were blessed with great weather although it was very hot in the full sun & it was really Important to stay hydrated. The food was excellent & as a vegetarian I ate really well. The baked cheese was a particular favourite & there was plenty of fish or meat for those who ate it. The accommodation was mixed & varied but on the whole was really good.

This was a great adventure and very good way of seeing a real slice of the country rather that just the tourist hotspots. The trip is full on in terms of keeping moving from place to place and packing a lot into the two weeks – so dont expect a relaxing laid back holiday. The up side of this is that you are constantly seeing new things/places/people which makes for a fascinating time. Dont underestimate the cycling – especially given the heat/humidity – and 100km on a mountain bike is a long day even if you are an experienced cyclist. However, the support is great and seeing the team ready with iced ‘Lemon Lemon’ every 15 to 20km was a very welcome chance to take a break and chat in the shade. The road traffic can be hectic in the towns, so you need to be vigilant for errant scooters/trucks/cows/ dogs etc but the other road users are generally aware of cyclists and give you enough room. Most of the time the support bus takes you in/out of the bigger cities, thereby avoiding the need to ride through the mega busy areas. However, if you are not confident in traffic then you might find some of the riding a bit intimidating.
