Simply Amazing

This trip to the coast of Portugal was the best. I have travelled all over the world on different trips and this one ranks at the very top of my list. The scenery, the daily hikes, the hotels and the food – all wonderful. We were fortunate to have spectacular weather. I highly recommend this trip for anyone wanting to experience truly amazing scenery and a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing the ocean from many angles and feeling truly blessed to be alive.

Francisco and Rafa were THE BEST - kind, informative, funny and engaging. They took the best care of us. I felt very safe every day while walking on the edge of the cliffs and experiencing views like I have never seen before.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Book this trip - you will not regret one moment.

Disappointing

We went on this trip April/May this year and the weather was cold, very wet and very windy with the odd bit of hailstone. Headwater (to whom this self-guided trip was seconded) need to get their agents in the Azores (Melo) to tighten up the transfer arrangements made by Melo and their agents (Novo Rumo) in Faial & Pico. Buses on the islands are very few and far between and cannot realistically be used for going to the start and ends of the walks. Taxis are mentioned but this needs to be stressed more in the notes. The Cantinho do Piano “self-catering” accommodation on Sao Jorge made it quite clear that the kitchen area could be used for coffee/tea making with the cooker not to be used (it was boarded in) and not even a table supplied. Not the best for making even just your own breakfast. The Aldeia da Fonte accommodation on Pico (in a gorgeous setting) really needs to put its staff on a customer relations course – a bit like Fawlty Towers where guests seemed to be an inconvenience. On Faial, the Pousada Forte da Horta was a very nice place but its dining was not equal to this and HB could be dropped there as there are many alternatives for food in Horta. As SATA has very few planes it is NOT advisable to have a domestic flight returning to Sao Miguel on the same day as the international flight home. One lost plane caused chaos one day.

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing a blue whale.

Self-guided

Advice for Potential Travellers

Pick your time carefully if you prefer to walk in reasonably decent weather! Avoid the Cantinho do Piano accommodation. Check reviews for the Aldeia da Fonte accommodation. Possibly not a good option for self-guided walking.

AMAZING!

Fantastic area of Italy. Unspoilt rural haven.

Most Inspirational Moment

Beautiful scenery. Wow moments at every turn.

Sarà Bull

Advice for Potential Travellers

One of the best walking holidays with Exodus. Challenging at times however with Sara our wonderful guide who explained exactly the walk ,terrain etc. it enhanced our great experiences. Sara is an exceptional guide together with faithful friend Elvis. Braccicorti is a lovely family farm where the food and friendly atmosphere is a delight.

A wonderful week

Just returned from a fantastic week exploring the beautiful, flower covered mountains and stunning coastline of western Algarve.
Francisco and Rafael were wonderful guides sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm for the local culture, history and especially nature and its conservation. … all with good humour and patience.
There was a great mix of walking and visiting local artisans. Also the food was delicious!

A fabulous trip with the best guides!

This was my third trip with Exodus. The group was both diverse & lovely, with everyone bringing their own flavour & experiences along.

Our guides, Francisco & Rafael were just fantastic. As well as organising the beautiful walks there were many other activities on this trip, including some not on the itinerary, and there was clearly much planning behind the scenes.

The mix of inland & coastal walks was perfect, and the abundance of flowers unexpected & breathtaking. We were blessed with perfect weather throughout.

Most Inspirational Moment

I loved the mix of terrain & locations. The local flavour brought by our knowledgeable leaders was really what made the trip so special.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Francisco was the main leader, with Rafa as his very capable right-hand man. They work so well as a team, and their lifelong friendship really does show throughout. They were both caring & attentive to the needs of our very mixed group at all times. Their local knowledge was fabulous, covering a broad range of subjects: history, botany, wildlife, geology, etc. They clearly have a great love for Portugal, and engendered respect for the environment, local people & businesses throughout. The best guides I’ve encountered.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Book it! Portugal is beautiful, and the area covered is diverse and interesting. The guides further bring it to life for you. I managed in trail shoes & without sticks, although these were available to borrow.

Fabulous adventure!

What a terrific trip! Francisco and Raphael were both great. They were so knowledgeable and helpful all along the way. I loved walking through the villages and learning about the culture. It was my first Exodus trip, and I see more in the future.

Excellent

WONDERFUL GUIDE/Gratifying, beautiful, challenging experience

The trek from Samos to Santiago de Compostela was an immersion into Galician landscape with beautiful scenery and welcoming people/stops. The early May departure meant weather was mild (routine rain expected), crowds limited, and spring blooms in full force. Our group was a joy and Aitor, our guide, was world-class. He is skilled at maintaining morale, providing specific coaching on physical skills, and has valuable connections to local providers.

Most Inspirational Moment

Entire group completing trek - specifically, the long day (19 miles) was tough as heat was rising and hills present at end of the day. Despite some physical challenges, we all persisted and maintained positive outlooks.

Thoughts on Group Leader

EXCEPTIONAL. Aitor's local expertise, deep knowledge as a guide/trekker, and skills facilitating the group were extremely valuable. I would follow him anywhere. He made each group member feel comfortable, was both informative, facilitative, patient when needed, and simply lovely.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Train. Bring rain clothes. Be prepared to walk in less-than-ideal conditions for multiple days in a row - 15,16,17 miles. For American walkers, expect hotels to be modest in room size, restaurant offerings, and less service-oriented than US customs. All clean and adequate; not a problem, just an observation.

Food For Thought

Friends were apprehensive about me going to Jordan but it felt one of the safest places I’ve ever been. We saw no evidence of the conflict in the Middle East! We were also in Petra during the recent flash floods, we were well informed about the history of them, the forecast for that day and what would happen in the event of one. It was our free day there, I and several of the group walked out during the flood, whereas some were transported out. No panic, no mass evacuation, calmly organised with expert people and specialised vehicles on hand but not needed. Don’t have any doubts about going, just go!
We were met at Amman by an Exodus rep who was so well organised. Kept us together, organised our visas and whisked us past long queues and onto our coach within a few minutes. He also saw us off on departure day and waited till we were all ready to go through the security checks. (Unfortunately I can’t remember his name)
The people of Jordan are wonderful. You do get people trying to sell to you but they do take No as an answer and leave you alone. The youth of Jordan are so polite and offered me help wherever I was.
We had a very comfortable 32 seater coach for the 16 of us, very roomy, air conditioned and had Wi-Fi. Wahim, the driver was excellent, safe, confident, coach was always cleaned and he was dressed immaculatly every day of the tour.

Most Inspirational Moment

Exploring the vastness of Petra.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our guide Amer was excellent, well liked by the group, everywhere we went he knew someone and they greeted him warmly. His English was amazing and he could talk about anything from the top topics to British humour and banter. His talks were interesting, informative and often gave 'food for thought'. On visiting sites he always kep us together at first to show us and talk about the most interesting parts and then give us ample time on our own to explore, take photos or simply relax. He was always very organised, arriving and checking out at hotels was a breeze as he did everything for us. He also had the coach stop at supermarkets before some of the destinations so we could buy drinks and snacks a lot cheaper than the 'tourist prices'. Most of the nights we had our own options for dinner but I followed his advice and I really enjoyed all my meals. Amer always had time for the group, even in his own free time and we had plenty of laughs with him!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go with an open mind, the history of Jordan may not be the same as we've been led to believe. Water shoes are a must for Aqaba and the Dead Sea, stones and very hot Dead Sea sandbags around the mud bath. Towels are provided freely at both. Any photographers-- wide angle lenses are best, zoom lenses not needed. Plugs- varied in hotels, some 2 pin, some 3 pin- same as UK. I used a multi plug and an extension lead. Give Exodus your passport details before you go to get your free Visa. We were whisked straight past the long queue obtaining and paying for visas. Arrive in Amman a day early if possible. I didn't and regretted it as flights arrive in the early hours of the morning. Others did, they had more time to explore Amman and relax prior to the tour starting. Take enough clothes to last the whole tour.

A beautiful cycling adventure in Portugal from Porto to Lisbon

This is one of the most beautiful bike tours I’ve ever done. The beauty of the landscapes, the bike course, and this, despite the rain of the last few days. Among other things, we experienced the general breakdown and encountered a significant subsidence of the road. But our guides, Dinis, Inês, and Filipe, were wonderful and always made our rides easier day after day. Everything was very well organized. The group meetings, the communication via WhatsApp, the photos shared by Filipe, the equipment provided (bike and handlebar bag) contributed to everything running perfectly. The choice of hotels and restaurants was perfect. The group was friendly and supportive, and I met some great people.

Most Inspirational Moment

The ocean views. The group's solidarity to overcome obstacles.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Dinis Rodrigues : he was friendly and personable. He gave us clear instructions, guided us well, advised us on restaurant choices, and was always concerned about our well-being. Inês Monteiro who was an excellent assistant and had to take over and turned out to be a very good guide too. Finally, I would like to say a word about Filipe Ribeiro who was an efficient support in transporting luggage, preparing picnics and who also occasionally provided transport for cyclists to cross a bridge or climb hills.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The difficulty level of this tour is 2 out of 7. This is true for an e-bike. But with a regular bike, the difficulty level is higher due to some hills that you encounter especially from the 2nd day. Nevertheless, I recommend this tour to people who already ride a bike and who want to take a pleasant trip to visit the Atlantic coast of Portugal.

Excellent trip

Really a fun and educational trip. Highly recommend for those interested in a broad overview of Greek history.

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing several sites that I've heard about my entire life.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Eva is excellent. Superb........
