A true adventure

This was a brilliant trip for seeing so much wildlife, and getting so close to it, particularly the elephants and hippopotami. Whilst we couldn’t believe how many elephants we saw, we also saw lesser numbers of lions, crocodiles, water buffalo and a miscellanea of birdlife. Insect life was also plentiful, colourful dragonflies by day and fireflies by night.

Most Inspirational Moment

The fact that you could get safely so close to wild animals like elephants, which you could never do on land. It was magical to go to sleep in your tent knowing elephants and hippos would wander past during the night.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader was very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful, one of the best. There were 13 people and six canoes, so one canoe had to take three and we ended up in the canoe with the guide. This was great as he did most of the paddling, making ours a premium adventure! The trip has its' potential hazards; at one stage a large crocodile sallied forth towards us, but our guide got us to splash the water with our paddles which drove it away; he would keep a close eye on us and get us to move back if we were getting potentially too close to elephants in the water.

Fantastic Scenery but tougher than Annapurna Circuit

This is an amazing trip which, unlike the Annapurna Circuit (which I did in 2019) brings you far closer to the big mountains including the 8,000 metre massif of Manaslu. Due to the recent hard monsoon on 2022 the trail had been recently modified and included a number of narrow paths across landslides (think traversing high screes in rthe UK) which wouldn’t be to everyone’s tastes but were necessary in the circumstances. The Manaslu Circuit is much quieter than the Annapurna Circuit, takes in a lot more villages and general culture of Nepal and doesn’t include the dusty main roads that seem a feature of the Annapurna Circuit nowadays. As such, the whole group found it more authentic, the scenery a lot more spectacular and a thoroughly enjoyable trip from start to finish. In teh Exodus brochure it has teh same difficulty rating as the Annapurna Circuit but our group thought it was a few grades harder and because of the time of the year we were wearing crampons for 4-5 hours on the ‘pass day’ due to amount of compacted snow on the ground. A thoroughly memorable trip in an amazing region.

Most Inspirational Moment

We had a number of health issues within the group due to the altitude, cold and a few bugs which spread around. The way the group, which was largely the same as on the Annapurna Circuit in 2019, pulled together and everyone supported each other was inspirational. It just goes to show that when you get really good people around you it makes a huge difference and we all felt that a bit of adversity helped the group really bond together

We wre a tailormade trip so we requested to have Tsering Dorje Sherpa as our Guide as he was the guide on our 2019 Annapurna Trip. We also had Tsering and Kaji who were both multiple 8,000-metre peak summiteers! To say we felt humbled was an understatement but they were all absolutely fantastic and we really appreciated their company, their experience and their shared recollections of time on the big peaks

Read the trip notes well, be prepared for all weathers and eventualities and enjoy it

Not for me

Rather arbitary route with random pick up and drop off points. Wine tasting was frankly a tourist trap as were some of the restaurants. A 70’s style package tour on wheels. Hotels range from ultra luxurious (OTT for one night) to the rather shabby. Eating as a group is hilariously inefficient which I couldn’t manage every night. 3 hours to get the food at times.Rather too easily playing the ‘this is Africa’ card to cover up basic stupidity. Thebikes were ok. A couple had seized or stretched gear cables which caused issues. I specifically requested raised handlebars because of a back and elbow issue and was assured it would be accomodated. On arrival they had had no notification and was impossible to sort out as there is only 1 cycle shop on the entire route, apparently. I was glad to be able to spend some extra time in the area seeing the real Cape flora and fauna with a local expert.

Retracing the route with a local and seeing more. We did manage to catch the whales in Hermanus - they had moved on when I returned 10 days later.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Not sure what his role should be as this is my first (and last) cycle tour. We didn't get lost. He knew a bontebok from a blesbok.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you are familiar with this sort of tour, then this is fine. There are better parts of South Africa to see and the wine tasting is a joke. Other cyclists thought it on the tough side of moderate.

Just Brilliant!

Fabulous mix of countries, cultures, cycling comrades and cuisine!

Most Inspirational Moment

Highlight for me would be the Angkor temple complex. The scale and complexity but also the architectural variety of temples was extraordinary. But i would have to mention the warmth of welcome from everyone we met. The excitement of the children in all the countries will live long in my memory. And the group of 17 we shared this experience with. We were blessed with a terrific bunch of co-travellers. The holiday does to some extent self-select like-minded travellers, but nevertheless the experience was enhanced by being with such a great group.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Saowarit, better known as Rit, is a total superstar and contributed in an enormous way to the enjoyment of the trip. He exuded calmness and control, and was always on hand to assist, advise and suggest. Above and beyond in terms of his commitment to ensuring we all got the best out of the experience. I can’t speak highly enough of him.

Advice for Potential Travellers

It’s hot! We travelled in November and daily temperatures weee generally between 33 and 35, with mid to high 20’s at night. The cycling is easy in terms of terrain as it’s very very flat, but the heat is challenging and sapping. The trip is classed as 3 / Moderate, with the explanation suggesting anyone of reasonable fitness could manage the rides. I would say it requires strong fitness levels, good stamina, and really is targeted at regular distance cyclists. The longest 3 days, each of c80km in 35 degree heat, are not for the faint hearted. The cycling speed for our group averaged about 20kph.

Brilliant Adventure

I’d never done anything like this before and I absolutely loved it! The cycling is in some stunning locations across Jordan, with great roads and just the right level of difficulty for me. It’s completely different to anywhere I’ve cycled before, but Ammar (our cycling guide) made sure that we all enjoyed it and got the best out of the trip. The parts off the bike were amazing too – especially Wadi Rum and Petra! They’re both unlike anything I’ve seen before and I loved exploring them. Mekhled was a fantastic leader and was always looking out for us and always going the extra mile to make sure everyone was having a great time. Overall, I had a brilliant time and I’d recommend it to anyone!

Out of this world

This was a once in a lifetime adventure to one of the most beautiful places on earth with a wonderful group of like-minded people. Oman is so diverse in its landscape and there is so much to see. It is culturally so different and the people are so kind, helpful and gentle. It’s safe and welcoming.

Ahmed was just brilliant. He was a fabulous tour guide who made the trip what it was - just amazing. He looked after everyone and shared a huge amount of knowledge about the place and the culture. He was very inspiring.

This is the most amazing trip - its full on- but in a good way - you feel like you have been away for weeks

Amazing Holiday

Such a great trip. Vietnam is beautiful and the people are very friendly and the food is great. So much to see and do. Much more to Vietnam than all the war films would have you believe.

Most Inspirational Moment

I loved all of Vietnam, but I just loved Angkor Wat the most. It is awe inspiring. Particularly enjoyed doing Ti Chi at 6 am on the top of the boat in Halong Bay with the stunning cliffs as a backdrop.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our tour leader in Vietnam was amazing. So helpful and knowledgeable. The Cambodian leader not so good. She got us lost one time and nearly drove off without two members the next day.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The hardest decision is what time of the year to come, as there are 3 different climates to contend with. November worked for us and we only had one downpour.

Cape Town & the Garden Route

I see Caroline & Chris have already completed a review which has saved me writing anything as I whole heartedly agree with what they have submitted! This was my 6th trip with Exodus and it rated favourably with all the others. I think you can rely on consistency with Exodus. If you don’t want to have to think about what you are going to do the next day or where you are going to eat or even what you need to wear on your feet then choose Exodus!

Excellent - felt safe with all the hours of driving he had to do. He planned, booked and took us to our excellent good value meals.

Discover Chile

Our guide Alex Aguilera was fantastic! He organised the group really well, was a fund of information and always on hand to answer queries. The trip was varied and really interesting. The standard of the accommodation apart from Santiago, was quite basic but adequate. The meal by the local lady on the way back from the geysers, was poor, but apart from that, all the breakfasts were fine.
