Hi Jamie

Yes and No, we have been to SA before, but not ever on a group cycling trip anywhere. Cape Town is a fabulous place, varied and exciting and the countyside around is superb. We did not go at the time of year that Whales are about which has been part of the reason for booking this trip. We are also flying independently as we are staying after the trip in Cape Town for a few days longer. We have been trying to cycle more than usual in the last few weeks to build up our fitness a bit. Are you a keen cyclist, what sort of gear of your own are you planning on taking? I was thinking of taking a set of pedals and SPD shoes, but probably not my own saddle.

Am looking forward to some of the food and wine experiences, especially with someone to drive us home afterwards!

hi andy , lets hope the whales know you making the return trip for them and show themselfs .

i thought more people would have been getting in touch as exodus said the trip was full , i like to bike more off road on forest trails though but must start to get out more so im not last one home ! i have done a couple of trips before and agree no saddle but spd shoes good idea but id say the mountain bike type as the road type have the toe bit that stops you walking about as easy ! not sure if to take shorts or cycle shorts ! yes a driver after sampling a few wines is  lucky :-)

where and when you arriving in sa ? i land 1030 pm the day before group and have the room for the extra night just have to sort transport out from airport

oh is sa safe place ? any issues with mosquito's etc

cheers jamie

Yo Jamie
Everyone else must be busy training!
We are similar to you mainly off road, usually at Dalby Forest but have been trying to get more road practise recently and yes going for our SPD trainers which are better for walking too.
No mossies in the Cape is one of the attractions, well maybe mossies but nothing that will give you anything nasty as a memento from the trip. We have been to CT before no problems safety wise in the tourist areas. I am sure you could get into bother if you wanted. We usually follow the if it feels a bit odd dont go and stay where there are lots of people.
We arrive on the same plane as the group as it happens though we booked the flights independently so that we could stay on afterwards.
If you have a day we would reccommend the red open top bus tour will get you to the Table Mountain cable car, Bo Kaap and the waterfront. Good commentary lots of history. At the V&A waterfront there are heaps of places to eat and drink and you can get a cab back easily from there. Long Street has some interesting places to eat too. If Table Mountain is clear of cloud go up. It isn't always clear so you might not get two chances and it just has to be done the view is 10 of 10 without a doubt.
The exchange rate is in our favour at the mo which is lucky too so we should get good value.
Counting down now

hi andy

thanks for the reply . I hope the rest of group not doing to much training as I am finding it difficult to get out much now the dark nights have arrived (must try harder lol ) glad the mossies are not a problem hate the things . thanks for the advice around ct but I don't land till 11pm so only 10 hours in front of you and its sleep time so ill let you show me around :-) . getting nervous/excited now keep thinking what have I forgot to do /buy or list to take , exodus says there is no visa for sa do you just fill a form when you arrive ?

hope things going well your end !
